Hi, I'm pretty much an amateur. I used a P&S for two years, just recently decided to get a DSLR. Photos of nature and city scenes are what interest me the most.

My paltry collection:
Concord 4363z (cheap P&S)
Pentax K100D body
Pentax 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6

Mostly amateur type stuff.

Don't shoot as much as I used to, because of life getting in the way and just lack of funds to buy a decent Digital SLR

For now I've got my old Nikon N75 SLR and my Canon Powershot A710IS which I've found is actually pretty good at doing what I want it to, tho I miss the fact that it's not an SLR...

I mostly shoot, macro, sunsets, whatever catches my eyes really.

Hopefully I can get a cheap SLR for my trip to Australia, maybe a Nikon D40 since my N75 lenses should all be compatible.

Anyways here are a couple of my photos with my A710IS

Bee on a flower...stupid shade above the flower tho
Red/Yellow Columbine
Purple/White Columbine
Hybrid Pink Columbine Up Close

And a here's a favorite from my Nikon N75...I know I broke the rule of thirds and the foreground is too dark but I still love this shot....

Semi-pro here (do weddings on the side, although I'm getting tired of it).

I'm really trying to get more into landscapes, and sports since they don't have a bride and groom to deal with.

Equipment:
Canon 1DMkII
Canon 5D
Canon EF 16-35 2.8L
Canon EF 24-70 2.8L
Canon EF 24-105 4.0L IS
Canon EF 70-200 2.8L IS
Canon EF 24 2.8
Canon EF 24 TS-E 3.5L
Canon EF 35 2.0
Canon EF 50 1.4
Canon EF 100 2.8 Macro
Canon EF 300 4.0L IS

And a whole bunch of other paraphernalia that costs more than I care to admit.

Haha! Thank you!

I like the 24-105 better because of the range. It makes a good walk around/travel lens even if it is a stop slower. The IS is nice as well. It's the single lens I take on vacations when I want to travel light. That being said, I use the 24-70 more during the weddings because of the extra stop and because I have the other body to cover the extra range. The 24-70 on the 5D and the 70-200 on the 1DMkII. I guess what I'm trying to say is that they are both good in the contexts of which I use them and choosing one or the other isn't difficult provided I know the situation.

I haven't done any sharpness tests on either of them but they both produce results that I can't complain about.

fotomanphil, welcome!

I must agree with you on your comments about the 24-70 vs the 24-105. The extra stop is great when you aren't allowed to use a flash inside a church! Stopping motion is more important, particularly since I have my own method and stance I take to stabilize myself. Shooting 1/6s below 100mm is no problem on my 30D!

I did a wedding last Saturday with my newly-acquired 24-70 on my 30D + 580EX and my 70-200 2.8IS on a borrowed body. The 24-70 is ridiculously sharp and the combo of both zooms is all you really need. Depends on your style of shooting, but for me as well, that combo is killer!!!

ahhh....the 24-70, nice piece of glass that provides very smooth bokeh. If I wasn't saving up for a 6010 Pio that would be my next purchase. You have chosen your glass wisely. I'm surprised we don't see the 135 f/2L on that list. Hats off to you!!

Dang...I don't have enough body parts to sell for lens on that list :D

Thank you! I forgot to throw on the EF 200 2.8L to that list. I forgot I had it since I haven't touched it in a while.

I was seriously considering the 135 2.0L before I started getting into the weddings. I was a bit of a prime lens junkie at the time and I knew the 135 was a gem. Then when I started the weddings, I quickly realized how much I did not want to be swapping lenses. Hence the zoom collection.

Wow, it's great seeing all the photographers on the board! I'm purely a hobbyist with no real aspirations for more. I'd consider my style to be "documentary"... trying to capture a moment in time that others may have missed. I almost solely use natural light and travel pretty light as well.

My Gear:
Canon 300d
Canon 50mm 1.8 prime (my workhorse)
Sigma 18-50mm DC ( nope not the EX )
Sigma 70-200mm DC

Some of my favorites:

Starfish
Prarie Creek Redwoods
Waiting
Niece
Fortunes
Untitled
Bamboo Forest

Check out the Japan photos in my sig if you'd like to see more. I'm pretty happy with how they turned out.

Pretty amateur. Started out on a Sony P52. Sold it and got a Sony P10, then got a Panasonic FZ20, then got a Canon 20d with 50 f/1.4 and the 18-55 kit lens. Currently use the P10 for pocket pictures and the FZ for its nice long zoom. Hoping to get rid of it soon for the 70-200 f/4.

complete ameteur

my obsession started in january when my wife told me she wanted to blow our tax return on a dslr.

i'm a researcher and deal hunter, so i set out to find the best value. but before i could figure out what cam was best for us, i had to really learn a bunch of stuff.
before i knew it, i was obsessed.

now that we have our d80 (and several lenses), i use it more than she does.
when we go out, she has to pry it from my hands.

I typed about three paragraphs of spiel, then accidentally closed the tab, so my life story will have to wait ;)

Anyway, my gear:

Ricoh KR-5 Super II SLR
18-70mm

D80
DX Zoom-Nikkor 18-135mm f/3.5-5.6G IF-ED

Sparse collection, i know ;) From what i've seen of the 18-135mm, it offers fantastic versatility as an everyday lens, so i'll hone my skills with that for a while yet.

Just a hobbyist here. Started in HS with a Minolta Maxxuum 7000 doing mostly B&W for fun developing in a darkroom. Gave that one up for an old Pentax from the 1960's but it was stolen in college and I didn't have access to a darkroom so I kind of gave it up. Played around with a Canon S400 P&S for a while and recently got back into things with a Sony Alpha DSLR. Currently using:

Sony 18-70mm Kit lens
KM - 50mm 1.7
Extra Sony Li-Ion
Reversing Ring for the kit lens for Macros
Cokin A Mount Filter Kit
Prinz No. 1, 2 and 4 Closeup Lens filters
Lowepro Slingshot 100
1GB, 2GB & 4GB Kingston Elite Pro CF cards

Hoping to pick up either the KM/Sony 100mm 2.8 macro or Sony 20mm 2.8 this week and possibly the HVL-F56AM flash unit as well. Also have some old KM lenses trapped in storage with my parent's stuff - KM 35-70 f4 macro and a KM 70-210 f3.5-4.5

Some photos here.

Currently needing to learn Lightroom a bit more formally, and wanting to learn PP in Photoshop as well :D
