her roommate is from out of state with both parents in the air force serving in Germany, she has to pay out-of-state tuition, while the illegals get instate tuition at CU.

this really pisses me off. :|

Yep. This happens in several states because of pandering politicians.

The entire state is considered a "sanctuary state" because they do nothing about illegal immigrants and go so far as to provide benefits like in-state tuition for many.

I would like to focus on the borders first. Status quo or let local/state handle the deporting of current illegals Can we at least stop the new ones from coming in? Fix the leak first or we'll be bailing water for a looong time.

If you can think of a cost effective solution with out inducing a police state then I would love to hear it.

The cost of ammo has been going up, but it's still cheap enough to be a cost effective solution.

There are couple extremely easy and cost effective solutions: 1) No benefits of any kind to illegals. 2) No automatic citizenship to children of illegals born in US.

These two alone would resolve at least 50% of the issue.

So you're saying the current catch and release is both economical and effective? I'm thinking that a billion dollar trench with pongi sticks at the bottom is going to be more effective than spending $500 million a year on trapping and relocating them until Americans start doing the jobs that Mexicans won't do.

Illegals work and pay taxes to the state. As long as the federal government is content with ignoring them, the states are going to treat them like their other taxpayers.

Your neice's roommate's parents don't pay taxes to Colorado. Not sure how they fit in here.

Oh, and this really belongs in P&N.

I don't see a problem with instate tuition for illegals. Call me weird, but if they are going to stay here, and most likely they are, I'd rather they be educated and contributing to our society. Really, I don't have a problem with people here who want to become educated and work hard, and they should be legalized. Also, keep in mind that out of state poor people may technically pay out of state tuition, but they have a lot of financial aid options available to them that illegals don't, so realistically they will be paying much less. I went to an out of state school that was cheaper than my instate tuition in CA would have been with all the financial aid I got.

Pardon my ignorance, but how do you pay/file taxes without an SSN/etc?

Sales taxes go to the state/local governments and require no SSN.

How do you get a job without a SSN? They use fake SSNs. They can work as day laborers and whatnot under the table, but most jobs won't take them without a SSN.

So illegals have a fake SSN, tied to their name and address? Perfect, call the ICE, round 'em up.

Well, they should at least have the benefit of being deported.

Then the illegals can report it on their customs forms when they fly back home, just like tourists do.

Sales taxes are significantly less than state/federal income taxes...and not all states have sales tax..

You can apply for a TIN (Taxpayer Identification Number) without being a legal resident.
