I know you're joking, but in all seriousness, is there like a one per household type of limit on this? I would assume yes?

For pure resale value, the 700m.

Why is that? Also, I'm pretty clueless about laptops... is there anyplace that maybe compares the inspiron lines and details which ones would be better for doing things?

I read luv2save's post and he has like 10 laptops listed.... what are the differences between all of those besides the obvious? Wouldn't I want to get the fastest proc, biggest screen, most ram, etc??? They all seem to be around the same price.

Also, any comparisons on those different types of screens? wsxgs, xga, etc, etc??? Arggg, I can't decide what I want to do!! I'm really thinking about selling my new dell desktop that I just bought off the hot deals, but I'm iffy.....

You shouldn't buy this laptop just for resale value unless you can sell it LOCALLY.

The market is flooded on eBay and you'll be lucky to break even.

Apex posted the following in this thread

It really depends on what you're looking for.

The XPS is a big widescreen laptop, with all of the bells and whistles. It's probably the best of them for gaming. P4 HT based with 800mhz FSB, up to 3.4Ghz

The 9100 is the same size and weight, with a lower price, but fewer options. P4 with 800mhz FSB.

The 8600 is again widescreen, but thinner and lighter. Centrino based.

The 5160 is a basic workhorse. 15" 4:3 screen, P4 with HT based.

The 700m is an ultraportable with a 12.1" screen, and built in media bay.

Those are the top choices for your dollar.

Dammit.. it's in my cart, I gave in. I don't even know why I need a laptop other than the fact that if I don't need it, maybe someone in my family needs it.

too bad my locally is the bay area... I'm guessing there'll be 100 700m's on craig's list by noon.

I'm not sure I'll buy one. The best form factor laptop IMO, the 600M, is widely regarded as a POS.

I'll just have to wait around for the rare warm T42 deal. :frown:

Other than a small battery issue that I have yet to contact Dell about, my 600m works great. I'm not really sure what people are complaining about.

if i had the money and needed a better laptop. lol. i'm waiting for another killer 400sc deal, i need decent gaming rig these days. 🙂

yeah, it sounds funny. but what gives better bang for the buck than that 400sc 2.8ghz p4 system that was $124 after rebate? link 😛😀
i'm still pissed i missed that while i was at school. 🙁

Hmm.. my dad needs a new laptop.. maybe I'll get in on this and surprise him. Or get it as a birthday present for my mom. Hmm

ordered a new 700M with 512mb 30gb dvd rom b/g wireless card and everything else standard with double capacity battery for 777 or 779 shipped after subtracting the free shipping fee 😉

I guess i'll have to sell off my other notebooks.

New 700m owner from the last massive deal, got the 8 cell battery, love this notebook, beautiful screen, fast, quiet, relatively cool.

Only mistake I made was getting the 802.11b mini pci card instead of the 802.11g card. Easy enough to swap out...

BTW, eBay is flooded with these from the last deal, if you can sell locally, you'll make out much better. I'm going to pass on a new purchase this time.

Dell's fiscal year is ending, and they're going to show some huge numbers, they've evidently made anough cash to virtually sell @ a loss or break even point this month.
