I find it more disturbing that you went through school without ever hearing about him.

I find your smug tone disturbing especially since nobody in this thread, including myself, who went through college ever heard of him.
I guess taking CS courses and playing kiddie games while at school kept you from learning about historic individuals of the past century.

Wow, you are a borderline moron.

Not every school system can study every single trivial person in the history of teh world. He was a nobody and with finite resources in school you do not study nobodys. He is about as a historical figure as who was George Washington's personal secetary.

Consider myself, I went through all of that honors/AP crap in high school and we never studied Che.
I never studied Che in college, chiefly because I tested out of my required college history (go go AP tests).
I did read up on him on my own when I was in college because I was curious to know more about this clown.

Congrats, you may have studied Che when you are a school but you still get an Idiot Award for not being able to think outside of your own little box.
At least according to a little frustrated smear of a man like yourself. That taken into consideration your insult is rather mild.

Whoa, it is like you are being clever . . . but not really.

You were the one being "disturbed" about the fact that somebody did not learn about Che in school. Now confronted with the facts that a majority of people in this thread never studied Che while in school, you try to casually pass it off by calling me frustrated.
The 'good' thing you could have done was say, "Whoops, I studied him in school so I assumed that everybody else did as well." Instead you berate people for taking CS courses or playing video games or assuming deficiencies on their knowledge of other pieces of history.
Sounds like an insecurity complex to me.
Your continuted inability to think from another perspective should embarass you.
Obviously your level of reading comprehension isn't what you think it is as the comment of mine that seems to have gotten your panties in such an uncomfortable wad was directed at one individual, HeroOfPellinor. As for my "disturbed" comment, that was not an insult thrown at the OP or others who had never heard of him, it was a comment about the school system these days. If someone isn't taught about Che then how is it their fault they aren't familiar with him? In fact I even stated that in a later post in this thread.

I think of them as "filtering" shirts. For example, whenever someone wears one to an interview I can immediately filter their pinko ass out of the position ;)

See how great they are!

Che also became an icon of the early Punk Movement when the Clash had that same image of him on one of their Album Sleeves.

What you learn out of school is far more than what you learn in school. Don't use your schooling as an excuse to your lack of knowledge.

Which is why I'm trying to learn a bit more about him... that wikipedia link is a good start.

BTW, it seems that Babbles and others seem to think my comment about being disturbed by the fact that you weren't taught about him in school was a knock on you. Trust me it wasn't. It's also good to see that you are inquisitive enough to seek information about him.

Dont worry, I didnt take offense. I figured it was more of a knock on schools than me. I still think you're a sonofabitch, but that's perfectly fine by me. ;)

I don't see how you can hold someone responsible for his/her education in high school. I don't remember there being a whole lot of classes available that taught about Latin America in high school. In fact there were none. My school never taught anything about Che in American history. I only learned about him thanks to my wonderful Peruvian roommate last year in college.

chill peru

Even though you can control your education once you get to college (liberal arts college that is) that doesn't mean you'll learn about Che. I'm too busy fulfilling my major to really take any Latin American history classes. I'm lucky enough to be takinig a polisci course about Latin America/US relations next semester, but that's my first.

Sure its nice to learn about the world, but the more I learn the more I know I'm pretty damn ignorant. I don't think there's a person alive who won't agree with that. Education is a process, don't get down on people for ignornace. This thread is a better opportunity to teach those who missed what you learned.

The Clash were as much into anti-establishment in England as RATM was here in the USA. Only the Clash made better and more influential music.

The other thing to remember, Red Dawn, is that not only was Guevara a marginal historical figure outside of Latin America, but that most most high-level history classes gloss over or do not cover "history" which has occurred during the last 20-30 years. AP US History barely mentions Castro's rise to power, let alone who helped him get there. It was a current event for you; of course you know who who he is.

It's kind of like me criticizing someone b/c they don't know who Maurice Bishop was. I only know because it was all over the news when I was young. Someone born 10 years later has no reason to know.

I know a lot about a lot of different things, but everything I know is because I needed or wanted to know.

IMO, there's not much value to knowing things you have no need or desire to know.

It's interesting people bring up RATM. I listened to them non-stop in highschool (when their first CD came out) and never really read into the lyrics too much, I just liked the funk hard rap/rock style and how it made me feel... boosted my adrenaline and such, and to this day, I still really havent tried to figure out their lyrics or what they really stood for... Does that make me wrong or just impressionable?

ps: I was one of the few people in my school who listened to them, so I wasnt being trendy... also I befrended a really hot chick that was two years ahead of me because I wore a RATM t-shirt (it was a conversation starter)... the maroon one with a molotov cocktail on the back.

In conclusion, RATM gets you chicks.

I never learned about Che (or at least I don't remember him) when I was in high school. I don't think that it's a big deal. There are numerous names or facts that you can pick out in history that won't be taught somewhere.

I see more people wearing the "Viva La Reagan Revolucion" T-shirts nowadays than the Che Guevara T-shirts. That's probably a good sign.

Before I learned about Che I thought it had something to do with pot smoking. It seemed only the potheads wore that shirt at our HS. After I learned about Che, I realized I wasn't that far off.

To tell you the truth, I find it normal that most American kids don't know who Ernesto Rafael Guevara is. They probably were too busy playing their Nintendos or Playstations, getting their fat asses fatter and flaming each other on the internet. Sad.
If the subject isn't brooched in school you really can't blame them for their ignorance.

Can you diagram a compound sentence? If so, how is an infinitive identified?

You don't think today's pop rock bands were influenced by RATM? So many bands are unsuccessfully trying to do the same rap/rock sound that it's ridiculous.

What would be better? A Halo 2 shirt?

No. Anyone who wears a halo 2 shirt to an interview should be killed by the interviewer.
