sophomore in college... I have no idea who Che is/was. I thought the OP was trying to spell Cher.

I find your smug tone disturbing especially since nobody in this thread, including myself, who went through college ever heard of him.

He's kind of right though, I mean you don't even know what's going on in your own hemisphere...

Not knowing who Che is != not knowing what's going on/went on in your own hemisphere ;)
Odds are you probably think "Sandinista" is just another brand of coffee.

Although he was born into a well-off family, well educated, and could have made a good living, he fought for the people instead.

once cuba was established, he could have stayed, in a powerful position, but left to go fight again, to benefit the people and not him self.
ended up getting killed though.

?Go ahead, you are only killing a man.?

I guess taking CS courses and playing kiddie games while at school kept you from learning about historic individuals of the past century.

So which class did you learn about him in?

nope. I got A's/B's in my history classes too.

Then again, a report in our newspaper yesterday reported that California is 48th in the state in education rankings, so it doesn't surprise me.

If you've heard of Castro, how did you think he got into power?

Probably some history class in High School or College. I probably did a report on him for one of those classes years ago or heard someone do a report on him and followed up by reading about him myself.

I didn't even know it was a brand of coffee so I guess I'm doubly stupid!

Nope. They didnt teach that in my liberal arts college... I was only required to take a few 'history' classes in my tech path. I opted for America Since 1945 and Western Civ

We never learned about Castro in high school. I know who he is of course, but it's not something I had a sudden urge to look into. I'm actually quite fond of history though, when I hear about things like this I usually want to go look more into it. Which is what i'm going to go do now

Speak for yourself, please.

Seconded. I know who he is, and I also agree that well over 99% of the trendy fashion-bitches who wear the shirts don't.

Alright, now that we've reiterated that the fashion trendy dont know jack about him... No one's really answered my other question except Colt45 who said that he was a man fighting for the people. Who was he fighting and why? Why was he anti-consumerism?

also, when did everyone start wearing these shirts? I haven't noticed any, but I wasn't looking for them either.

I'm starting to think I'm just ignorant and out of touch with society. Damn you AT

He was a Communist Revolutionary. His methods were brutal and would probably be considered a terrorist by todays standards. Back in the late 60's and early 70's he was embraced by the counterculture as being a Champion for the oppressed people of Latin America
