I don't even know, I'm still very young in the grand scheme of things. I put up with a lot of depression in early 2006. It was crappy.

"So.....what was the worst year of your life?"

-My wife left me.
-My dog got ran over by a Peterbuilt.
-My trailer burned to the ground.
-My truck was repossesed.
-All I have left in life is drinking whisky at the bar.

......ehhhh......no wait.....I thought you said what was the worst country song you ever HEARD in your life.

Nevermind.

Not all in 1 year but..

1) When a close friend of mine died in a motorcycle crash. We were such a close knit group. Still missed him so much.

2) When I spent 6 months of my life playing Diablo II non-stop. I would only stop to sleep. Trying to keep your characters on top of the ladder is such a dumb way to waste your life.

3) When my dad had a stroke. He was such an active person before that and seeing him now with such limited mobility is disheartening.

But its been 7 yrs and I've have done very well since.

So far this one. At about 12:30 am on January 3, 2007 I woke up to my pregnant gf crying. She had a miscarriage, the bath tub and trash can was covered in blood. 14 weeks and 2 days. She went to her parents who live about 8 hours away to pick up our kid from grandma's and now she is getting an infection with high fevers and is going to see the doctor today.

1997 was awful. My mom was diagnosed with cancer, my stepmom accused me of threatening her life (which i never ever did) so she "kicked me out" of my own home to go live with my mom in a new school while i was a freshman. That is when my grades started to slip and i started not to care about school because i saw how sick and in how much pain my mom was.
I took a lot of days off to stay with her when she had chemo and other treatments or when she was flipping out on the drugs they gave her.
She was the most important person in my life at that time and to see her go through that literally make me sick as well. :(

Thankfully, she is strong and she found and won that battle and is still an important part of my life... moreso now because of what we went through.

Pretty much most of the years between 1991 and now, with one or two exceptions. They've all been so truly horrible I can't imagine any way to rank them.

Despite many of your very depressing years life I agree with your fundamental tenet. Some of you seem to believe when everything is going wrong life is terrible- but what about the one thing that might go right and save it- the one thing that makes it worth it? You don't have to meet the man/woman of your dreams to be happy, have the perfect job, have a huge e-penis, and drive the coolest car all at the same time to be happy.

It can be enough to pick one thing and hold onto that. We all have at least one thing we hold onto. Maybe that one thing won't last forever, but at least you are still alive.

Yep.

2006 started off with me being unemployed.
4 months later after starting a new job in a new city i found out that the woman i love was dating someone else.
A few weeks later i was told that she was not just dating but having sex with him also.
2 months later i went through a life threatening illness where my kidneys, liver, and intestines were a mess and failing. I was hospitalized 3 times for a total of 15 days.
The ex and i continued talking and made plans for trips. She cancelled trips.
Couple months later she says that im the guy she is meant to be with. More trips planned. Trips cancelled. $800 down the drain on flights and reality sets in...
Spent new years alone.

August 2005 - August 2006

- Dad was diagnosed with esophageal cancer and died of tumor erosion causing massive blood loss 4 months later, none of my family lives in the state anymore, so I was his primary caretaker, and the one they called to identify the body, I also cleaned out the apartment, did all the funeral stuff, etc.
- Totalled my car after getting several speeding, and license sticker tickets, mostly trying to get back and forth between the hospital and home
- Got back in school, which is good, but is a bit stressful, having three kids and working 40+... there's just no time... ever.. for anything...
- Got a 20% paycut which took me a couple of weeks to renegotiate and scared the living fvck out of my family, due to our precarious financial situation
- One aunt and one uncle died

It was a pretty bad period there, looking up now though

No regrets.... I've had a lot of bad things happen here and there, but no bad year. I contribute my successes to eating a complete breakfast in the morning, trying to balance my life, and make good long-term decisions.
