2002, definitely. Depression, grades in university were terrible, lonely and destitute.

Everything just gets progressively better since! Every year has been better than the one before, 2007 should be fantastic. :)

1999: 26 year old brother diagnosed with rare form of bone cancer and died 6 months later :( Had to care for parents who couldn't deal with what was happening ... true role reversal.

Crazy year ... graduated from college, met my wife, got my first 'career' job, first solo apartment ... yet it was still by far my worst.

That sucks man :(. It must have been annoying watching those bluntheaded morons make faces at me while talking to me in the most childish manner. God those clumsy bafoons and the disgusting gerber jam cans.

On a more positive note I had my food delivered to me. I could get anything I want by opening my mouth and shouting and crying for it. I didn't have to start the damn car and get myself to work, people moved me everywhere and things were free.

2006: We lost our little boy at over 5 months into the pregnancy. I can imagine something worse happening, but I really don't want to contemplate it.

Shiit, they even wiped my ass back then. Try getting ANYONE to do that for you this day and age.

I sat around all day shiiting and pissing. When I was done, I'll just cry to my mom, "clean it up bitch." and she listened so.

2000. I lost my brother. It still seems like it was yesterday sometimes.

GF left me
Dog died
Was sick for a month were all I could eat was crackers or jello (at most 1 jello and half a sleeve of crackers in a day). Ended up loosing 30 lbs that month and was unable to eat dairy for another 2 months.
GPA dropped from 3.2 to 3.0 due to dog dying the day before my finals started...

I won't date myself with the year, but my brother died the day of his high school graduation, my brother-in-law was crushed in an accident and left paralyzed, and my dad left. It was really only a couple of months.
But enough of that depressing SH!T, anybody have a new joke to tell:D?

You can't keep looking back on the past ... just go forward with a good attitude. I think that's why I seriously have never had a bad year.

People have died, pets have died, and unfortunately accidents happen. My Grandma is in the ICU right now b/c her lungs filled with fluid a few days ago... not the best way to start the new year but you have to keep looking forward with positive thoughts. This year so far is turning out to be one of the best ever, even though the situation it started in.

While this may be an answer that works for you and others, I can't do it. I wouldn't be true to myself if I tried this philosophy. I am part and parcel composed of my experiences. While tending to my father as he died was a hard and stressful experience, I am grateful for the experience, learned a lot from it, and consideration of the continuing lessons it has for my own life is important for my personal growth.

Looking back at negative experiences from the potentially objective now, can teach us much, if we let it.

8th grade. Moved to Kennett Square PA for one year, from Fairfax County VA. Hated it. Lost all friends, schools sucked (went from building model rockets to making paper airplanes in tech-ed), completely isolated, attempted suicide.

Dad got laid off
Because of many unsound investments, we had to move
Mom started to work 2 jobs (she got cancer probably because of the stress)
I started to work two jobs (14 hour days)
I wasn't sure how to afford college because of our tax bracket, I couldn't get good Financial Aid till the next year.
Scraped by first year of college (spending an average of $10 per month extra above housing and food and tuition)
Did odd job every chance I got to make some cash (couldn't tell my friends because none of them really understood)

Looking back at it, at least I didn't have to worry about my next meal and where I would live. My mom helped out a lot with her two jobs. :(

1997. That was the year I ended up homeless, and had to track down my dad so he could buy me a plane ticket and let me live with him. I worked two crap jobs (adult store and stocker at a clothing store), then I joined the military.

2005...

Ex-wife and I grew apart (though it started in late '04). Did nothing but argue when we were actually speaking to each other. She moved out, found out she was having an affair, separation agreement drawn up, forced to refinance the house just to keep it, months of therapy/meds, financial problems, etc. Some of my darkest hours and I've had my share...

Met someone new at the very end of 2005 though and I have been with them since so I guess 2005 wasn't a total catastrophe. A couple weeks of it anyway.

2005 when I got hit by a car while riding my bicycle coming back from the gym. I had my whole life on track, last year of college, in very good shape (working out hard for 3 years), and just beginning my social life. That whole year was total garbage as I spent 2 months not even leaving my house after my collarbone got fractured. But in a twisted weird way, things picked up in the spring time of 2006 where I met my current gf, healed up pretty good from my injury, got a nice job, still finishing college slowly, and bought my first car (Lexus) bling bling! Life is wierd.

-Got hit by car
-Broke collarbone was a depressed fat vampire for 6 months
-Met GF which I will probably get married with
-Got a pimp job and car
-Gonna have to lose 40 pounds I gained and regain my strength!
