I don't have to carry anything. I live Finland. The worst I have to fear is a drunken finn with his drunken fists.
According to the UN and Interpol, Finland has a higher crime rate (adjusted for population) than the US.

According to Interpol, in 2002, Finland had 503 murders with a population of only 5,206,295. The metropolitan area of the city I live in (Portland, OR, USA) has a population of 2.1 million and had only about 45 murders that year. That means Finland has 5 times the murder rate as the American city where I live. In fact, though, according to Interpol, Finland's murder rate is nearly twice as high as the US as a whole, and Finland has an overall crime rate nearly 3.5 times times higher than the US (when adjusted for population).

Finland 2002 Interpol crime statistics
USA 2001 Interpol crime statistics (most recent available)

You, my friend, have much more to fear than just some drunk...

I start crying in a fetal position at the sign of any danger and hope it leaves me alone.

Hand them your wallet. When they turn to run off, pull out your weapon and shoot them. Obviously it would not be the best situation to attempt to draw your weapon while someone already had theirs pointed at you.

That is completely against the law and you would be prosecuted.

I love it when people see a post, think they're hot sh!t, throw down a post, and don't read the rest of the thread.

It's already been discussed, this is legal in Texas, and many other states.

nothing.

i don't wish to argue, and i support the right to bear arms, and would defend that right against this government.

however....
i've always felt those that carry weapons deep down WANT to use them. i just don't have any compulsion to hurt anyone almost no matter what. weird how the christian dogma 'turn the other cheek' soaked so deeply into this agnostic. :D

not looking for flames just expressing my opinion.

If they didn't tell you they were coming to repo your car, and some dude just came and started taking your car? THere's no way you could be blamed for blasting him. That would suck to have to shoot your own car to kill some crook though...

I'm really not worried that a dangerous minority carrying a knife is going to come running around the corner demanding my wallet or my sneakers - honestly.

Sheesh.

Edit: Are the credit cards with $0 liability and $20 bucks in cash really worth a human life? Simple calculus here.

I'd say that's the criminals' decision to make.

in NYC there have been cases where people killed for 20 bux... not to mention the cash advance capability on your credit card...

but for me its a swiss army knife in a sheath hanging onto my backback. practical yet it can slash...

Nothing... I live in CT.
Daytime crime is non-existent AFAIK, and I just don't wander into unfamiliar parts of town alone at night. I guess you could term this preventative self defense.
