I rip music from my own CDs to lossless FLAC then transcode to MP3, so I have no need for iTMS.

I own a Zen Xtra 30 GB so there's no point in getting an ipod. But I might get something like a Dell DJ Ditty at some point to use with Napster To Go / yahoo music rentals, if Creative never puts out rental support for my Xtra.

I have no idea why, but I'm starting to want one... even though I know my music collection isn't worth it :|

It is the marketing, hard to resist the subliminal messages.

ehh the nano looks cool, but I wouldn't pay that much for an mp3 player ever.
rather listen to BBC and NPR anyways.

Nope.

One of my clients gave out Ipod Shuffles to all the attendees at a conference I went to earlier this year. I loaded it up with songs and used to listen to it sometimes while mowing the yard, but I haven't used it much since.

I figure by the time I upgrade my cell phone again, it'll be able to offer as much storage capacity for music should I choose to use it that way.

I'm debating between an iPod Nano and holding out for Nokia's N91 phone... 4GB hard disk (MP3, WMA, AAC support), GSM/GPRS/EDGE 900/1800/1900 MHz, built-in 802.11B/G, 2 MPixel camera, Bluetooth, USB, and possibly VoWLAN. Unfortunately with all these features, the N91 will likely cost an arm and a leg :(.

i'm waiting until someone makes an mp3 player that has 4gb flash, rechargable battery w/good life, small, durable and around $150. i don't need or really want one, but those stats would tip me over.

Don't have one. I'll probably get a portable player in the near future, but it won't be an ipod. They are overpriced imo.

I finally got an ipod when the nano came out. I have a lot of mp3s and wanted something small, solid state, and with decent storage that played mp3s. I don't need it to do anything else. Nano FTW.

No ipods here, two 5 GB zen micros and a zen xtra 30GB. I got the 30 GB at BB for $35.00, what a steal. (it was a closeout) Second Zen micro is my wife's.

I have no mp3 player and don't really desire one, ipod or otherwise. I just don't like headphones in general b/c of their link to hearing loss.

Yes, it is tempting. I never considered one until riding with someone who had one with an FM transmitter. The light came on. The price for the iPods and mp3 players is still kind of steep but I'm definately tempted.

Q: I've been reading that w/ the Zen Touch all the mp3s get thrown into one directory not sorted or sortable by album. Could someone who uses the Zen Touch verify or clarify? I prefer to listen to music in albums so being able to click an album and have the player play the songs on the album in order is a feature I would like.

Also, organizing the albums by genre is a desired feature. Does the Zen Touch or Sleek allow this? I downloaded the owners manual from Creative and it was almost useful.

I'd consider the 4 gig Nano if it weren't for two things.

1: no support for WMA; when I first started encoding music I encoded about 200 albums in WMA because I didn't know the first thing about encoding. They sound fine and I'm not about to re-encode them(library rentals;))

2: No user accessible battery. I won't consider an mp3 player that doesn't support it. Preferably disposable battery support.

I had an IPOD but I sold it for the amount I paid. I don't really have the cash for it :(

I don't have any sort of stand-alone mp3 player. I'm not tempted in the least, I have no use for one.
