I think we may have to haul out the boat this evening bro. Dad's emergency ladder (for getting out of the water if you fall in) got knocked on an underwater stump when he took his clients out a few days ago. It has to be held up with a bungie cord, else it falls on the water. So it needs pulled out and looked at, and see if it can be repaired or needs replaced.

Anyways if we take it out of the water we'll take pics lol.

The stump field here are pretty dangerous.. I suppose we will take pics..

BTW bro, that was more blog worthy. Just tell me next time. The members don't like reading other people's blogs. They just like writing their own so that they can complain about their girlfriends cause they won't give them enough sex :p

Go for it. My work truck is a 2000 Expedition Eddie Bauer 4x4. I would never buy one because of the gas costs, but it is a damn nice truck to drive in.

Tough SUVs do have a purpose.
Foreign competitors only know how to build high revving cars and don't know squat about trucks, SUVs and the torque needed to actually do work.

That's because regular people in other countries do not own boats...

And what is so disgraceful in owning a boat?

Somehow I knew this thread would have nothing but cries of 'omgz teh gas guzzler!1!!', and 'land barge', etc.

If you can afford it, who ****** cars. Don't whine unless you are being forced by gunpoint to pay for OPs gas.

After alot of car shopping lately (You all have probably seen some of the threads), I now have a 2004 Ford Expedition Eddie Baur sitting in the driveway to test till tomorrow. And I am REALLY loving this vehicle. It has the 5.4L V8, rear DVD, rear air, power third row seat, two-tone leather seating, and the Mach audio system (Always have loved them, even the Mach 350 in our Eddie Baur Bronco). I'm thinking I might actually purchase this vehicle. I was looking at a 2001 Town Car for $12,000. But this is a 2004 Expedition for $22,000 flat (haggling is sweet) that has new tires, new battery, absolutely spotless engine bay... It feels like my birthday... though that was the 11th..

Me so happy! :D

not to thread crap but "a spotless engine" bay is not always a good thing, is it spotless from being washed or is it clean and untoched? when buying a used american car id rather see the engine bay before being washed to check for any kind of leaks.

Oh I understand that. We have been vigorously testing it looking for anything to break or any fluids to leak. We went to our back country and gunned it up several 45 degree grades and then saw how well the breaks did stopping downhill. It performed much better than we expected. Only thing to check is the windshield washer fluid... Doesn't seem to be working properly for the front window.

And about the 12 mpg land barge comment... It's actually a 15 mpg land barge ^_^

Beats the single digits we're getting from the Bronco :p

EDIT: Not to mention they look dam good sitting in the carport together :p

 for saving the environment by going with a more fuel efficient vehicle LOL

Internet Tough Guy? ;)

I really do think SUVs are dumb. What's wrong with a pickup truck? They have super-cabs, and they're more practical anyway.

Oh believe me this was VERY close to becoming the vehicle of choice. It would have had to of been a crew cab though. We simply can't fit into a supercab. But one thing stopped it.

All of our cargo must be protected. It can not be exposed to the elements. Thus, it was back to an SUV. The explorer didn't have enough leg room in the back after ours was taken up in the front. Thus the Expedition was decided on.

And you misinterpreted my above post. I was only saying that you most likely *don't* drive a large vehicle. And I was saying if you are so worried about blind spots with me, then don't do anything stupid because I know I'll be fine. But you on the other hand wouldn't fare so well against it.

That was all :p

Aw crap, I got the super-cab and crew-cab mixed up in my head.

I was just kidding about the tough guy thing.

I understand why you'd need an SUV for protecting cargo, it's just not very often that someone actually needs an SUV. Very rarely.

I'd like to point out the countless soccer-moms that drive expeditions while yakking on their cellphones about inane crap, and the middle aged men who clear out the whole 1/2 of the back of the SUV as a dedicated dog comfort area, with a blanket, pillows and chew toys, leaving seating for maybe 4-5 people left over, and no cargo room.

It amuses me.

Also, yes, I drive a TINY little go-kart of a car. Mazda MX-3. Quick enough to get out of the way of larger vehicles! :)

Oh I fully understand that man. I got it based on a need, those soccer moms can sit and spin for all I care :p They're still free to get what they want, but geez talk about overkill.

As I may have said somewhere before, my first choice was a Ford 500, and I was pressing it up to the last day, when it was determined that the Bronco had a strong chance of not lasting long enough to keep doing boat duties. So it was decided to do SUV so that it would be a smooth transition.

I have no problems with small cars. I just have a problem with sitting in them :p

I'll agree that there are situations where an SUV is the best vehicle - a large family that has to haul things is the obvious example. I do think the ratio of that situation and the amount of SUV's on the road are way out of whack though. For example, in all my years of driving I don't think I've ever seen a Hummer hauling anything. In fact, I can't remember seeing one that wasn't spotless clean let alone muddy/dirty from being off road.

I know several people who own SUV's. None of them have a family larger than 4, none of them tow anything, and none of them go off road. They use their SUV's like one would a large sedan or minivan. I drive a VW GTI that gets 22-23 MPG in city driving (a majority for me) and I wish I had gotten something more fuel efficient. I can't imagine 14-16 MPG around town.

we can whine all we want about the gas hogging whales on the highway. if you don't like it, tough sh!t.

I just bought another 2003 Cobra. It's not a SUV so it doesn't attract the attention that SUVs do. It 'only' weighs 3600 lbs instead of 8000 but it has a supercharged 'big' V8 that hauls ass, is loud as hell, and can and does burn fuel faster than any SUV made could ever dream. Not only does it emit C02, but it burns tires faster than gas!

Curious what the anti-SUV crowd thinks about a car like that? If I desire to smoke you by 50 bus lengths when you try to creep ahead of me at a merge with your sporty and aggressive but weak economy car I get 8 mpg. When I casually cruise to work and enjoy the sound of the road and big cams and full Bassani exhaust all to myself, I get up to 25 mpg.

Personally I dislike SUVs, if only for the socio-political stigma associated with them. It's the same reason I will never drive a BMW that doesn't have a M in the model designation. I am the anti-bling that prefers sleek and subtle style and high class over raunchy gaudy flashy junk.

I don't worry about a 'land barge' hitting me because I am a paranoid driver. For example I scan the lanes on red lights even though I have the green so that I will never be caught by surprise by a SUV running a light at 120 mph, so the weight difference means jack squat to me. Unlike someone in a tin foil car who wants to feel false security so they can drive like jack asses and not pay attention with impunity.

I like to see all the road around me for 100s of yards, I don't like being behind lifted trucks and SUVs going at a high speed when I can't see around them. Solution? Either don't tailgate large SUVs or pass their ass in a cloud of burned rubber.

I laugh at people who drive $50,000 Escalades on a 84 month loan with 8% interest with $5,000 rims and 15 LCD screens all facing towards the windows to impress other commuters, when I see them turn into a trailer park or apartment complex while I drive home to my house and continue putting money into my own pocket every month.

But it's not my problem. I don't care what people spend their money on as long as it's not coming from my pocket/taxes (eg: 'poor immigrants' with gold rims and $50k SUVs in southern AZ who are on 'low income' assistance and can't afford health care...)

Mind your own business and stop trying to micromanage everyone else!

Seconded about ugly ass commercialized Rubbermaid hummers.

3 liter V8 with 190 HP turning 7000+ RPM through 8.0:1 rear end gears and blowing through 4/5ths of the available transmission gears just to roll 8,000 lbs to 15 mph when the light turns green all to carry a cell phone and it's idiot.

I dont care about how much you have to spend for gas mileage, or the "carbon footprint" from your car

big honking expedition trucks are ugly. theyre big. people cant see past them (to scan road conditions ahead)....cant see past them when both are pulling out of a parking lot. cant see the incoming traffic if both are in left-turn lanes. they crowd up parking spaces. their higher-mounted lights blind other drivers in the same and opposite directions.

fck your big trucks if you dont need it

fck your opinion. No one gives a flying fvck what LS20 thinks.

Wrong. I happen to agree with every single point he made.

Ditto.

Big dumb cars for big dumb people.

Well, I can't help it we got 3 idiots here. It's bush's fault anyways. :p

Who's the idiots here? o_O And what fault has bush with me purchasing an SUV? :p

Comon guys, let's not start talking crazy here :p

Apparently LS20, manowar821, and me. I'm glad it's Friday because I'm so hurt I'll be crying the next 2 days.

It's pretty sad when you have to resort to pointing out things that aren't the president's fault.

The only foolish person I've seen here is Rogodin. While I don't agree with your views, that's what this forum is all about. I don't care if you have a different opinion. Just as long as you hear me clearly in the first place, which Rogodin kept missing :p
