I read today about the extent of the US surveillance program in Europe, especially Germany. 500 million connections (telephone&mails) per month. For comparison: In France it's only 2 million connections/month. The article also said, the UK is exempt from the surveillance (amongst other Commonwealth nations).

Politicians over here are already thinking about calling off the new free trade zone between the US and the EU. The agreements regarding the transfer of flight passenger and bank data are also in jeopardy. Formerly secret documents state that Germany is a "third level partner" but also a "target".

Personally as a German, I find this despicable. I would support any action that makes crystal clear the US cannot do this with us. Yes, the US saved us 60 years ago, but enough is enough. One cannot hold this over our head forever and justify any actions with this.

Obama wants to know where you are are (triangulated cell phone radio signal)

...who you are with (a record of other cell phone signals in a particular location and time)

...and what you are thinking (your internet activities monitored at your ISP, including Google searches, downloads and videos watched)

at all times.

I believe this started long before Obama. It doesn't matter what party or what president the US has - things like these always go on in the background.
Apparently, the German government has known about this and cooperated...I don't want to know how much influence the US actually has over German politics given the likelihood that they spy on our government and ministries as well :(

I'm fairly certain everybody spies on everybody else. To think otherwise, IMO is naive. It's all about who gets caught with their pants down, and unfortunately this to e it's us.

I hope the EU tells us to fuck off. This country needs to suffer, we've grown to fat, ignorant, and complacent.

I'm pretty sure that some German higher ups and intelligence knew about this all along. Maybe they even benefited from it in some way.

Dear USA,

You're generally pretty awesome. Most of your people are pretty great too. But you've lost your way on some things. With this surveillance stuff, you are no longer at the top of the slippery slope, away from the edge, looking down. You are rocketing downhill on your way to 1984. Stop it.

There were a few too many people who read 1984, and saw it as inspiration that propelled them into politics, to help bring on the "utopian" future it depicted.

it's not just you guys, we here in europe has become a ball-less hippy commune who let african illegals, muslim immigrants and eastern european thugs walk all over us. The EU has grown into a nightmare and everybody is too fucking busy worrying about welfare to do what needs to be done.

the general consensus in the comments to an article about the US spying on the EU parliament and whatnot i read today was "at least somebody knows what those assholes down in the EU is up to", because we the people sure as fuck don't.

You realize Germany spies on the US too, right? Are you similarly outraged?

If it's any consolation, if those are the correct figures it probably means you're getting spied on less by Obama than he is spying on us Americans.

yeah, the U.s. govt doesn't have much respect for its allies and there is nothing we can do about it.

If only american's had the same sized balls like the egyptians, but all they can do is sign some only petition and rabble rabble rabble behind their keyboard.

This is how you stand up to a president http://rt.com/news/egypt-milllions-protest-morsi-458/

USA lost its way. instead of beacon on a hill is a paranoid petulant little child losing it's influence in world. Whole reason Obama is in africa is to bribe/threaten leaders there who jettisoned US companies for China/russian and European over last 20 years. Most the the oil development now in ME is going to China/russian and european firms instead of default USA. In 10 years I think we'll be a irrelevant has been.

This is another issue. With communication age representative democracy needs to go doesnt serve us anymore globally. USA has less of that because welfare checks are flowing still. Cut them off and balls will drop.

Do you think there might be a few things the Egyptian government does that the US government doesn't which might merit that response?

no, more like there's a few things our government would do to us.. that the Egyptian government would NOT do to it's citizens... like.. massacre us.

Are you seriously attempting to argue that the US government is more oppressive than the Egyptian one?

yes, i am. just we haven't seen a situation yet where they've got to "be it."

we DO, know about the plot to take out the occupy leaders... it's out, it's real, deal with it.

now tell me they wont massacre your ass if you march on the capitol...

i wont be anywhere near that place if something like that happens.. it is NOT a big deal for them to wide out the entire march.. and you know, the way they have the media cartel at there beckon whim... it wont be televised... it'll go underground quick...

i'm pretty sure you could prove the fact that the US government is more oppressive than the Egyptian government by just a few simple statistics...

population total
population percentage incarcerated
population percentage incarcerated before trial

do some math.
