So seriously - why are there NO major brands of soda with cane sugar?

Availability and cost has a lot to do with it. Most of the cane sugar isn't converted into syrup but is converted to crystallized sugar making it cost more than HCFS. It wouldn't take a lot for manufacturers to take some of the syrup out of the process but if you search for cane juice or syrup in bulk you will see it cost much more than HCFS.

I recommend people stop buying commercial soda and make their own. There are a lot of products out to do it and it can even be cheaper than buying 2 liters in the store. Average is about $1 a 2 liter for me and I get to choose what goes in it. This is one device for the home, not the one I use (I use one from an old diner that closed), but I have used their flavors, root beer is excellent.

correct. Fruit is meant to be eaten so that the sugar can be delivered in a regular fashion due to the fiber. Think about how many pieces of fruit it actually takes to make one cup of juice?

If you really want to be healthy your options are: Skim milk, black coffee, tea, and water.

Well, I wouldn't say real juice is worse than soft drinks, it does contain nutrients (vitamins, antioxidants). Its pretty absurd to say juice is as bad as pop. Sure, you don't want them going through a half gallon of juice a day (let alone all the fake juices), but if the choice was pop or juice, I'd hope you'd be giving your kid juice. As for the teeth, well you should hopefully also be teaching them proper dental hygiene (hell teach them to rinse their mouths with water after drinking juice.

Should be. Probably won't taste bad yet either. Just a good idea to hurry up and drink it.

I'll drink it tomorrow, because I can get my boyfriend to try it first to test if its still good :D

HCFS for the win. I tried the pepsi throwback and mountain dew throwback, while a little different, I wouldn't say they are better than regular pepsi or dew.

HFCS is just fine gets a bad rap from the anti corn movement.

The problem is they have done taste tests and most people so far prefer the taste of hfcs to the sugar that they tried out recently.

I wish this weren't the case. I can definitely taste the difference.

My favorite sodas so far are Indian sodas. Every time I go to India I drink a ton of soda, esp. Limca. Best lemon lime soda I've had.

OP answered his own question: too expensive.

The corollary to that is most soda drinkers are addicts who don't actually notice the taste of soda enough to desire better tasting, sugar sweetened soda when offered it in tests :D

Powerful Corn Lobby. Someone has to find a use for that massive annual tonnage of subsidized, inedible, corn chaff.

Quite simple, really.

Orange juice isn't as bad as soda, but it's still better to eat an orange.

That said, I occasionally drink soda and orange juice (not together, of course :p).

The solution is obvious. Orange Soda!

My wife and I did a back to back blind comparison between American Coke (corn syrup) and Mexican Coke (cane sugar). You can definietely taste the difference compared to the Mexican stuff the American Coke burns your mouth. The Mexican Coke is much smoother.

I love the burn. Who wants a smooth soda? Drink tea if you want a smooth sipping drink.

Cola should burn the lining of your mouth and throat as it surges down to your gut.

WTF are you drinking simple sugars is my question. Trash. I don't let my kids drink that crap h2o or 100% juice is only option.

I forgot sodas fuck up your blood PH causing other issues. (google it)

I bet your kids pee in your 100% juice, and they'll probably run away to become street walkers just to score that sweet white powder you never let them try. Do you also ban them from halloween and pass out diabetes awareness pamphlets to the kids that trick or treat from you door?

??

Does this exist?
I don't believe so... wanna be co-creators? :D

Not sure of the logistics for it not existing, but likely it's the expense.
Remember xylitol is NOT an artificial sweetener, and it's good for you!
I would so buy anything sweetened with xylitol. (I already keep the gums/mints on hand)

Someone was asking me what they should buy from a US soda importing website (in the UK) and asked about Pepsi Throwback.
I pointed out that Pepsi Throwback is different from regular US Pepsi because it uses sugar instead of HFCS, but it'll basically be the same as our Pepsi since in the UK we use sugar. If he wants to try something different and American, I suggested buying regular Pepsi.

So you're saying if you take soda, add some vitamin C, you suddenly get something that's good for you?

Juice is soda behind a health food label, period. The addition of a vitamin here or there doesn't change that fact.

well fruit juices... the one that contain only 5% juice yeah... those are terrible.

100% squeezed orange juice like Tropicana, or Simply are excellent. Minute Maid is for kids with its concentrate crap.

Doesn't xylitol (it's a sugar alcohol, right?) have a laxative effect in larger quantities?

Not really. 100% fruit juice is still very high in sugar content. When consumed as an actual fruit, you're getting fiber with it, which is a very big difference.

Moderate amounts of fruit juice are fine - the problem is, so many people guzzle the stuff because they think "oh, fruit juice! its healthy! drink up!" They'll be just as fat as the soda drinker.
