I know, I shelved it and got busy and forgot about it.. would it still be safe to drink? :s

The resident director of my dorm had a few cases of Dr. Pepper he needed to get rid of for space. I took them and after drinking part of one, I noticed it had a weird taste, sure enough they were all expired.

I didn't get sick after realizing they were bad...but I still couldn't finish it. Though that was a HFCS drink. I've no idea whether an expired drink made with cane sugar would make you sick.

If you put a clear bottle of pop in a window or somewhere which gets a lot of direct sunlight, after a month or so it will get a weird taste. Won't make you sick, but not very enjoyable either.

I love Cleveland. The local bottler uses sucrose, so all coca-cola in Cuyahoga county is with sucrose, not HFCS. Move to Cleveland, OP.

Like I mentioned before my wife and I did our own blind taste test with mexican and american coke. We both could easily taste a difference and we both preferred the mexican stuff.

I'd bet the recipe is different, not just the sugar/HFCS. Coke actually has a modified recipe for every country. IIRC there's something like 200 variations of coke around the world. The coke bottled in Kuwait, for example, is WAY different.

The formula is exactly the same no matter where you buy it. The differences are in the sweeteners and water used.

No friggin way. Some countries simply can't handle the amount of sugar most westerners are used to. If you've ever had the Kuwaiti version you'd know its more than just different sugar and water. And from what I've hear, the versions in India and Africa are incredibly different as well.

Not to mention the carbonation is a lot different as well.

For some bizarre reason I don't understand, corn farmers seem to hold a lot of political clout in the US.
Iowa Caucuses. American politicians with any presidential aspirations are loathe to piss off the Iowegian corn farmers.

I am a big fan of Boylan's when I can find it...

DSCN6942.jpg

Boylan's is nice. I think I like it more than Kosher Coke.

Boylan used to be available at the local supermarket, then they stopped stocking it. 4/$4. Now I have to pay $2 per bottle at a sandwich shop.

Boylan's Root Beer is the best I've ever had (I wasn't impressed with the Virgil's I tried). I haven't tried to Cola though, is that good? It's pretty damn expensive at $1.50 a bottle at HEB (super market) but worth it for special occasions.

Boylan Cola has an extra kick to it, like a hint of spice. Definitely worth trying if you haven't yet.

If you buy Coke from one part of the country it's going to taste different if bought from your part of the country. Just because it has sugar in it doesn't automatically mean it tastes better. I've been to many different countries and the Coke tastes different in each country.

Some Mexican markets will have import label Coke with real sugar.
There is a car wash I know that has Mexican Coke. er.... the drinking kind we've been discussing...

I hate to break it to you, but juice is just as bad as soda, if not worse.

Well Wal-Mart is going to start carrying Jones Soda nationally. It's pretty costly stuff, though.
Unfortunately they quit carrying it locally last winter. :(
Here's hoping it comes back as part of a nationwide distribution.

LOL "cane sugar". Over here we just call it sugar. AFAIK I've only ever once tasted HFCS. It was delicious though.

Well, there are two different origins for sugar. And if don't go to extreme lengths of processing before packaging, both have a slightly different flavor.

After processing, both are the general white sugar.

In the States, only southern parts of Florida, Louisiana, Texas, and the state of Hawaii grows cane sugar. The other sugar grown around the U.S. is Sugar Beat, and is used far more often just because we grow so much of it.

My favorite sugar is sugar cane that isn't processed into 100% white sugar. They call it Turbinado Sugar iirc, Also, Raw Sugar (Sugar in the Raw is a brand name). It's a brownish/greenish large crystal sugar from Cane, processed for uniformity and cleanliness, but not into the more flavorless table sugar.
Super tasty sugar that still has some of the cane juices in it (molasses and what not). Awesome in coffee. And on Wheaties. :)

Breathing really fast also screws up my blood ph. I don't really care though.

Juice also has the same/more sugar than soda. Citric acid is also more acidic than carbonic acid.

I firmly believe that if there was a strong demand and a profit to be made from it, soda companies would be making soda from cane sugar.

the fact that they're not leads me to assume that either the demand is not there or no one is willing to pay $10 for a can of coke.

I have 11x12 packs of sugar soda. Pepsi, Mt Dew and Dr pepper. My wife picked up a bunch last time they were on sale at Target. I then quit drinking soda and now it is sitting in my fridge and laundry room.

I enjoy the Pepsi better than the HCFS, the Mt Dew is almost a tie with the HFCS tasting slightly better. The HFCS Dr. Pepper tastes better.

I was under the impression that in Canada all the soft drinks used cane sugar as opposed to HFCS.

Am I mistaken?
Yes.

This has been discussed before.

High-fructose corn syrup (HFCS) – called isoglucose,[1] maize syrup, or glucose-fructose syrup[2][3] in the UK, and glucose/fructose[4] in Canada – comprises any of a group of corn syrups that has undergone enzymatic processing to convert its glucose into fructose and has then been mixed with pure corn syrup (100% glucose) to produce a desired sweetness.

here is my pic of a 2L bottle of coke I bought:

Correct. Fruit is meant to be eaten so that the sugar can be delivered in a regular fashion due to the fiber. Think about how many pieces of fruit it actually takes to make one cup of juice?

If you really want to be healthy your options are: Skim Milk, Black Coffee, Tea, and Water.

Juice is probably even worse than coke. Especially for kids. Citric acid is a known tooth destroyer. Plus it is full of sugar. Nasty.
