Man, between this and the coke commerical thread, the entire bigot subset of P&N is out in force. Good to know who are the bigots around here.

It's generally the same small group of people too. You can expect certain of the same usual suspects for certain topics where they like to come out and show their bigotry.

honesty
humility
no ego
the understanding that not everyone thinks like you
the ability to not force your own viewpoints on other people using jack booted thugs.

Umm, she and democrats forced their viewpoints on other people like jack booted thugs using force of law.

She's a fucking slut and has no business in congress.

How ironic that the comments posted here are proof that she needs to run.

His mom should have beat his ass as a kid, so he'd respect women more.

So Fluke is a slut for using birth control? Lol, spidey's mom must be huge slut then.

and who is more of a slut, using birth control or not using it and getting knocked up?

cough...cough...Palins...cough!

IIRC, she was defending a friend who required Birth Control for some Medical Condition. My memory could be faulty on that detail though.

She's probably not yet qualified for such a position, but she's not the first person whose run in with a controversy propelled them to run for Office. That has occurred on both sides of the aisle.

Aside from enduring some Republican verbal abuse, what are her qualifications?

She's a lawyer, graduating cum laude from Georgetown. She founded organizations in New York to address domestic violence and human trafficking. She was a featured speaker at the 2012 Democratic National Convention. And there was the whole episode of testifying before Congress. So it's not the longest resume for political service, but it's not like she's completely out of left field either. We've got State Senators in my state with fewer qualifications.

You do indeed recall correctly. But Rush and like-minded people would rather attack her on a false premise than attack her arguments on a real one because they know they're wrong.

After Obama, the word qualification no longer has meaning.

Not me. I could care less if she screwed every person she ran across. My problem is she got up in front of the world and lied her ass off. Telling the truth is starting to become a lost art.

Actually not so much

But what if she not only decided to attend the university anyway, but decided to attend specifically so she could fight this battle? Consider this passage from an early Washington Post story done on Fluke before she was permitted to testify:

Fluke came to Georgetown University interested in contraceptive coverage: She researched the Jesuit college’s health plans for students before enrolling, and found that birth control was not included. “I decided I was absolutely not willing to compromise the quality of my education in exchange for my health care,” says Fluke, who has spent the past three years lobbying the administration to change its policy on the issue. The issue got the university president’s office last spring, where Georgetown declined to change its policy.

Fluke says she would have used the hearing to talk about the students at Georgetown that don’t have birth control covered, and what that’s meant for them. “I wanted to be able to share their stories,” she says. “My testimony would have been about women who have been affected by their policy, who have medical needs and have suffered dire consequences.. . .The committee did not get to hear real stories I had to share, about actual women who have been dramatically affected by this policy.”

That’s right. It seems Fluke intentionally chose to go to Georgetown so she could agitate and sway them to cover contraceptives. She then went to a hearing as a representative of women who hadn’t known about Georgetown’s policy until it was too late. Unsympathetic observers might liken this to James O’Keefe attending a hearing to speak against ACORN on behalf of pimps. It certainly raises the question of why the women Fluke claims to speak for couldn’t present their stories for themselves.

why personal insults? why not attack her ideas? I honestly don't care if a woman is on birth control, it's none of my business, i suppose it's her "right" to put whatever she wants in her body but that "right" stops when she wants me to pay for it...

Yep such a good friend that instead of helping her directly, she instead asked the taxpayers to pick up the tab. I guess when you're a progressive you don't really have friends, you just know people you might be able to use as anecdotes to advance your political causes.

So she's not actually a Slut now, but a bad friend?

Her friend suffered from polycystic ovary syndrome which can be treated with birth control pills as a way to prevent worse symptoms that could become cancerous. If it was ANY other drug that treated an existing medical condition and potentially prevented cancer, conservatives would not care if it was being funded by taxpayers. But even though it's an entirely non-sexual use for contraceptives, because it has the side effect of making her infertile, she must be a slut and a whore and looking for taxpayers to fund her sex parties.

I am thinking you might want to add quotation marks around the word friend

I never called her a slut and I don't care one whit about her sex life. Personally I'm all for women having more sex but see no reason why taxpayers or colleges should fund birth control for her and mandating it be universally covered as part of health "insurance" coverage is asinine. As far as being a quality friend or not, that's for the other person to decide. I don't know her but I'd be hard pressed to call someone a 'friend' who used the story of my personal circumstances to publically advance a political point and pointed me to Uncle Sam for help instead of reaching into her own pocket. But maybe her friend is just as much of a partisan as she is and fully supports whatever payola they can get from the government, even to the level of personal health supplies. Maybe Fluke can advocate for taxpayer funded toilet paper and tampons for women next.

Why are you bringing it up then?

And those pills cost $9/month or $324 for 36 moths, not $3000
