So Obama was with a room full of Republicans today

Ayup. Obama now needs to talk to the voters in Mass. and hand them their collective asses as well.

I'm hoping he campaigns for all the other races come november. Everything he touches turns to shit. Keep it up O. Keep pissing off the people every single day.

Despite Luntz's remarks, and the ideological blinders exhibited by some posters here, repubs would have to be even dumber than they showed themselves to be during this exchange to do it again. Anybody who actually thinks in a non-circular fashion saw Obama politely, gently and firmly hand 'em their collective asses. Failure to see it as such is willful blindness, all too common on the Right.

Obama probably recalled the words of brer rabbit as he left the gathering- "Oh please, brer wolf, do anything you want, but don't throw me into that briar patch!"

Apparently the GOP didn't plan on televising this, the Whitehouse requested it (kind of funny considering the complaints about not televising the health care debates on c-span) but are now regretting it.

I bet they will do it again and just not let the public watch.

The good ol party of NO.

The GOP is not doing what they were elected to do...just saying NO isn't governing...

This is where You, Obama, Pelosi/Reid and the MSM are flat out wrong. The Republicans are not just saying NO. They are saying NO to the far left policies of the Democratic party while proposing alternatives. Since Democrats control both congress and the WH, they are pretending like Republican proposals don't even exist.

Being in the minority doesn't mean you have to vote for the policies of the majority.

Send Spidey for a piss test, because his description of what I'm watching being rebroadcast on C-span right now doesn't resemble his remarks in the slightest. Repubs spout canned talking points, Obama calmly and quietly lays 'em in the dust.

They sure as hell won't be risking a repeat performance, bet on it.

Spidey is just acting like the rest of the Rethugs right now after taking such a hard beating today. Each of his (and his parties) talking points were slammed to the ground. Instead of respectfully accepting defeat they will instead attempt to spin and destort everything the man said to keep their constituents focused on false fears rather than facts.

Friday story with zero public interest. Soundbite-fest.

The Republican proposals somehow involve across the board tax cuts while simultaneously cutting the deficit. How do they do this? Well, they don't actually propose anything backed by real numbers. The ideas are bliss, but they are also fantasy.

Let's just discuss some of those pesky facts. The GOP accused Pres. Obama of running a monthly deficit that exceeds the yearly deficit of the previous GOP administration.

True or false??????????????????????

Republicans don't need no steenking facts!

Nope. Keep talking libtards, keep up that same attitude of arrogance.

False fears? Who's the one that keeps talking about healthcare crisis, energy crisis, global warming crisis, banking crisis (while preventing them from banking)?

Barack Hussein Obama, that's who.

The fucker had super majority and pushed through what the people did not want and he's blaming the people trying to prevent his overthrow of this great nation? I think not. The country has awoken. We're WIDE awake now. And he has the audacity to claim he is a servant of the people? Nope, the people have spoken and you are done Hussein, we WILL defeat you. We WILL stop your continued destruction of our economy and private industry. We WILL stop you.

Another attempt at achieving some cooperation. The republicans give Obama the back of their hand again. I think Obama really is going to let himself be slapped around by Republicans for this entire year. Obama wants to show America just how right wing the republican party has become. A whole year watching Republicans demonize and disrespect the President of the United States.

When did the republicans become this right wing?! We all know the party has been hijacked by 2nd rate men. But when did it exactly happen? Can't expect anything from the women of the republican party either, just complete indifference and cowardice.

The President is really trying here for some bi-partisanship. At least publicly, I can't imagine there a many who have the strength to suffer these Republican fools like he has.
Obama can stand before that group and say whatever he wants. I've already spoken my mind on how sincere I feel the effort was. I'll forget about my opinion in that regard and assume that Obama was sincere for the sake of argument.

What has this accomplished? Do the Republican members of Congress go back to their respective houses and negotiate with Obama? Of course not. They'll be in there attempting to find common ground with people taking their marching orders from Harry Reid and Nancy Pelosi. Those are the two that should be given a talking to because I can tell you with near certainty, that they have no intentions of any bi-partisanship.

This is political posturing pure and simple unless Obama can find a way to throw the fear in Pelosi and Reid - assuming he even wants to. Pelosi has publicly made several statements counter to what Obama has stated he wants within just this last week alone. But her and Reid are his only hope.

There is agreement right now in Congress between both Democrats and Republicans. There is no health care bill and cap and trade is dead because the two parties are in agreement.

Obama is a progressive. Obama and the Progressive Caucus can't accomplish their goals. It's very frustrating for him I'm sure. So he reaches out to Republicans to help push forward his progressive agenda?

IMO the meeting today at the Republican retreat was to lay groundwork for finger pointing in the November elections. Nothing more.

For those that want his progressive agenda for America, be cognizant that the enemy is not the Republican party. The enemy right now is the American people. Members of both parties are abiding by the wishes of their constituents.

We have gridlock. It may not seem like it, but we in fact do.

Well, If it was primetime, would it have any public interest? You gotta admit, its a good way to control the new cycle.

Well if nothing else, the recent news that the economy grew 6% this quarter puts the GOP behind the eight ball.

And its long past time for the democrats to call a spade a spade, and point out that the GOP lockstep gridlock is not helping our country.

But the GOP has not learned a damn thing since 2004, and they are heading for the third straight election dope slap in a row. And if that third straight loss happens come this November, the GOP, a once fine political party, will be too small to be a national force. As the GOP bets their survival on unthinking gridlock and stands for nothing meanwhile.

Truly delusional, a state of total denial. While Obama didn't say it, I will- much of the rightwing is utterly beyond reason, so entrenched and invested in fantasy that they simply can't be dealt with in a constructive fashion. It's sad, it really is.

Jusy Like I stated in the other thread they had years of tutoring from Dems pre 2006. Can we get an up or down vote on a judge? Nope not gonna happen said the Dems time and time again. The hypocracy is just plain silly. This arguement needs to end. Or you can just keep restating it and look foolish.

The President is really trying here for some bi-partisanship.

Yeah, right, cooperation and bipartisanship. Sure. He went there to chastise them and as expected achieved nothing since the republicans are not going to back down anyway. His idea of cooperation is apparently "agree with my policies, or you'll be obstructing". That dog won't hunt.

The ONLY reason Obama was even there is because he's trying to regain control of situation after the smacking the dems got in Mass. More hubris and arrogance, not hope and change.

If the dems are going to be "the party of crappy legislation" then the minority gop has no choice but the be "the party of no". It makes sense, and it's exactly what their constituents want.

Something the democrats who keep whining about the "party of no" don't seem to understand is that to conservatives and most independents, not doing anything is better than doing something bad. They'd rather see the republicans constantly say "no" than have the dems shove crappy legislation down their throats.

Offer something better....

Offer something better....

Umm... with a small minority in the house and senate, and a democrat in the white house, any ideas the republicans might offer are going to be like a fart in the wind. Just like the repubs are not all that interested in working with the dems, the dems have shown absolutely no desire to work with the republicans at all. They just figured with their large majorities they could ram through whatever they wanted, but the people of Massachusetts threw them a curve ball. I like this filibuster 41 vote setup, it's going to force them to work together on some things.

It's like watching the righty version of Dave. SadnFunny.

the consensus I'm getting from repubs now is not that it's baracks fault, but it's pelosi and the rest of the democratic caucus.

makes sense, they are doing the same stuff.

Obama should do this same speech within his own party, but I'm so glad this was recorded on TV.

Did ANYONE except the guy who actually knew Obama do their freaking homework before spouting out talking points?

They made Repub points look so transparent it is laughable people vote these people in.

SOmetimes you don't get a choice though, you either vote in a crap salad or a crap sandwich

no, "republicans" had 6 years to implement any ideas they had...

/they have no ideas, except to pretend there's nothing wrong....

They ran into same problem the democrats have now, an obstructionist minority. I think you forgot how much the democrats loved the filibuster while they were the minority.

Even during those 6 years they never had a supermajority so they were not able to push through things without dem support. Further, I have no problem agreeing with the fact that republicans screwed things up royally when they had chances to do stuff. Now the democrats are trying to screw things up even further, and the republicans are the only thing standing in the way of them doing it. If you want to call that "the party of no", by all means, go ahead, but that's not a negative thing as far as I'm concerned.
