Couldn't stand Oahu myself when I went. Way to commercialized and metropolitan. It was ok to see Pearl Harbor and Honalulu for a day though.

I enjoyed Maui much more. Everything seems way more laid back there.

Wish I can visit the other islands someday.
Did you ever get to Kaneohe, Haleiwa, Kailua?

No, didn't really get over to the eastern side of the island that much. I admit my observation is mainly from spending time in Honolulu. I'm sure there are other parts of the island which are beautiful.

I just felt more relaxed on Maui...

finally booked my flight through ata and booked hotel reservations via priceline to stay at Radisson Waikikihi @$55/night!

now i need to make an economy car reservation and get me a kie or chevy 😀.

i think so, or hope so at least 😕

the destination says honolulu so i assume there's only one main honolulu airport

you might want to try www.travelzoo.com for some deals... they didn't have any specials on my dates tho 🙁

anyone know of a good tourist guide site that is like www.cheapovegas.com ?

also, what are some good places to eat at in oahu? i want to try all kinds of good food, whether it's one of a kind pizza only made in hawaii or sushi...i'm open to anything as long as there's not too much veggies. Bargain cheapo restaurants would be nice also 😉.

hah i was about to do that right now ^

How much money do u think is needed for a good time in hawaii with a loved one? Or better yet, for someone who went to hawaii, how much did it cost you overall starting from the moment you closed the door of your home and locked it?

Planning to take a vacation soon....

I must've spent about $1000 not including the airfare and hotel. Stuff over there is expensive!

CRASH N' BURN! 😀
Statistics show flying is safer than driving. 😉 Difference is you don't have control over one but you do the other.

not necessarily. we went last year and are going back next month and getting married there next june...
it all depends on what you do, where you go to eat, etc. Some of the best meals we had were at "hole-in-the-wall" places where all the locals told us to eat! We ate a meal at our resort and it was the most expensive meal we have ever eaten, but we expected that.

Also, we didnt really do any excursions with tour groups because there was so much to explore on our own. that saved us a lot of money as well.

It also depends on where you want to go and what your tastes are! post and we will answer!

we spent about $4000 last year, but we got hosed on a rental car because someone coughlolacough wanted a Jeep. This time the rental car is less than half the price 😀.

Get this book: http://www.wizardpub.com/oahu/oahu.html

The Big Island version helped us an unbelievable amount. It will let you know about places that some locals didn't know existed.

EDIT: Just saw it isn't coming out until Oct 04 🙁

Maybe the Hawaii AT members can meet up with you and take you out to Kahuku for some shrimp. It's the best you'll ever have!

hi another question, should i rent a car for the whole 5 days or just 2-3 days because it seems a lot of the attractions are within walking distance and could take up the whole day... and parking is 9-12 bucks a day 🙁

i'd like to save as much as possible, but i will be spending liberally on the food 🙂

well im leaving in about 2.5 days and am wondering how was your experience with "The Bus" for those of you who have taken it?

oh man. i've been considering selling all my stuff and moving out to hawaii. i've got a friend who can store my computer and maybe half my clothes indefinitely. sleeping on the beach is no problem. natives, are there sh!t jobs out there available for unskilled people (me)? it'd be so nice. so, so nice.

locals, how hot is the rag selection? does wax trickle fast (<two weeks) from the bay? what about movies? you got movies? indy movies? i need that sh!t to survive nevermind this house and a car gig. thast boring.

ahhhhhh how much money do you think i'd need (not including airfare) to get a room(yes it can be in a poor neighborhood) and eat for like...6 weeks? i can definitely hustle my way into a job waiting tables or making sandwiches that fast.

ok, if you're a local and you answer my questions i'll shower you with authentic vermont cheeses and maple syrups.*

*if i come out there

The Bus is pretty much like the city bus here in NY. It's $1 for a ride and it comes about every 15 minutes at night. I only took it once to the Chinatown in Waikiki. The AC gets blasted on the bus so make sure you have something warm to wear. Hope this helps.

Ouch that's a good chunk of change... we're planning just under 2 weeks there... after a monstrous wedding too. 🙁

LOL! we are having our "monstrosity of a wedding" out there! Honestly, though, its worth every single penny! Then, the honeymoon begins RIGHT after! thats not mine to plan though! 😉

Which islands you hitting? which hotels?

^ thinking Maui --> Renaissance Wailea (coworker of my fiancee is from HI so he recommended Wailea). I think we're hitting Maui, Oahu, and the big island for a few... not exactly sure how much we can get done in ~10-12 days... do you think we can hit all 3 ?

Haven't booked a single thing.. was hoping Liberty Travel can help us out since they should be passing on the cost to the hotel, etc. instead of us... right ?

The worst part of planning a trip to HI is that we have no idea when we should book the hotel UP TO... since we are likely island-hopping... :| How do you guys deal with island hopping and booking around it ?
