I would've just merged. If he didn't like it, he can eat my trailer hitch. Would hurt him a hell of a lot more than it would hurt me, and I have insurance. There's NO excuse for 15+ over the speed limit in the right-hand merging lane.

Note though, that I'm typically a pretty courteous driver; I will move over for faster traffic, let people merge when/if I can and do my best to not cut people off.

some assmunch at the same place another pulled a short stop to me 2 years ago tried this again. Flew up on my left, cut in to the merge as I was going and then slammed their brakes. I stopped in time. There was no one coming, totally were hoping I nailed them. Freaking beater ass car with about 5 dudes in it. There are accidents everyday at this merge and it's always a nice car plowing into a hooptie with a half dozen or more people in it.

My typical fix for this is to floor it, in the 0.8 seconds it takes to spool up my turbo and my vehicles transmission to downshift from 4->3 (or even 2), then the <1 second to get from 65-80 - this should handle getting ahead of the jerk. My excellent brakes handle stopping before wrecking the slower car. By then I'm likely to have an out to the left anyway.

Most of the merges here in the overpopulated part of the country consists of slower traffic in that right lane. So you're only going to go slightly faster than the current speed of vehicles to try and get in. Flooring it to get by a guy already in the right lane will result in jamming on the brakes a few seconds later. What I'm saying is, we're at the mercy of the people already in the right lane to let you in. Most people actually do but there's always "that guy" who speeds up to make sure you end up behind him... of course he's hitting the brakes right after he passes you. Fucking douchebags.

you at least sped up to 65. The people who do this at 45 and expect to be let in deserve to be run off to the shoulder. But at 65, you can make a reasonable attempt to get in and force the guy to slow down... especially if you're going to be entering where you're tailing the guy in front of you. That means you're only taking up an extra car length or two between the guy in front and the fast maniac behind you.

Yeah 2 years ago I tapped someone just like that (same merge)...guy was fine at the scene along with his g/f and their 15 year old daughter. He called every emergency responder from the scene and as soon as they were visible collapsed to the ground in 'agony'. He left by ambulance. His g/f and daughter took the car home and then in the morning went by ambulance to the ER.

They then saw the same chiropractor everyday and sometimes twice a day for 2+ weeks. The 'paper' bills were in the ten's of thousands for dollars and they all claimed at least 10% disability.

I looked them up, he was busted a few times for coke, didn't have a license on the scene (and still doesn't have a license), had SR22 insurance. Courts made him 'indigent' so he just pays his fines $10 a month.

He had creditors after him and was being evicted.

They wanted $300k.

In the end they sent him $10k and they dropped charges. I am sure they didn't get a penny though and the lawyer/chiropractor team shared the fees.

I always watch out at this merge as there are accidents morning and night. I wasn't expecting someone to fly up and pass me in the single merge lane. The funny thing was they all opened their doors immediately, I guess thinking I must have tapped them. I had a good 3-5' between us.

Ultra-competitive asshole. Letting you in means he lost a single position (if you're on the Duc, a half a position), and that is UNACCEPTABLE.

Half the people out there on the road are clueless morons who scare the shit out of me when I am one of the apparent few who pay attention to every little detail my vehicle is able to tell me about itself and its current relationship with the road surface. That, and I utilize what performance is available when it is most effective and efficient and safe for travel. 🙂
If I can turn a 3.5hr trip into less than 3hrs, I consider that time well saved. 😀

Snow slows me down terrible though. But when my RWD V6 Dakota has a nasty tendency to go "woops felt like swinging my fat ass around a bit sorry man" and dance a bit when there is heavy snow... that, or I've had the worst luck in finding the icy spots.

I long for my future ride, as soon as I can afford it (and I am beginning to not be able to afford the upkeep on this hell forsaken bastard child of Dodge)... and that is only AWD hatchback with a turbo flat-4.
A Rex should handle Ohio winters no problem! Until it's a sheet of ice, which happens from time to time.
