That's normal, happens all the time. People don't know how to drive here, and the all about me attitude is fail.

The ironic part is, I bet you do the same shit if you were in the other drivers’ position. I know I do…

Good thing, too. Everyone knows you need to put yourself and everyone around you at risk to prove your manliness. "Hey, I'm failing at life, but I made this fucker hit the breaks when he entered the freeway this morning! YYYEEEEEEAAAAAAHHH!"

The way I see it, the merger never has right of way. Should have slowed down once you saw him, cut in right behind him, change lanes then keep him stuck in the slow lane.

Above is true except in the situation where both lanes are crawling and need to merge. Then it should be a one from each lane rule. Assholes who ride the car in front of them are fucking assholes.

Exception to the above rule is when someone knows the lanes are merging, moves over to a clear onramp lane to cut off a bunch of people before merging over. I will gladly force them into the cones/medians if they won't just go behind me.

Get a faster car? If ur way ahead of him just punch it! Fuck that guy. But you know what? If everyone stayed to the right I bet he wouldn't have had to be passing people in the right lane.

Seriously people, staying to the right would solve like 90% of all traffic issues regardless of road rage and immaturity.

He was way behind me when I saw him, as in 6-7 car lengths but closing the gap fast even though I was going 65mph as I came up to the end of the merge lane and the 3 cars in front of me were already moving into his lane. This on ramp has a notoriously short straight before it disappears so when entering the freeway here you really have very little time/distance to merge in.

Here is the on ramp:

I couldn't. There were cars in front of me and I was already catching them up.

I drive a 2003 Nissan Maxima. It's not exactly slow...

As said, cars on the main road, have the right of way. It is up to the merger, to locate a large enough space and be at the proper speed prior to attempting to merge. A big issue, is a lot of cars do not accelerate fast enough to get out of their own way.

In that guys defense, he was already on the road and you were trying to get on it. Its really more your problem than his.

Here's why I just ignore everyone in the merge lane and let them figure out how to fit in: I was once driving along on a highway (2 lane, 1 each way that's what counts as a highway around this dump) and a person came down the merge lane beside me. I believe they were driving a Volvo which means 9 times out of 10 they are terrified of driving and just had a bottle of wine to make the horrible experience go smoother...but that isn't really relevant.

Anyway, I was feeling pretty charitable that day so I slowed down to let them in as the on ramp there is stupidly short like all on ramps in the capital state of half ass roads are. They then slowed down probably to get behind me but I was still slowing down to let them in. Before I realized WTF was happening they had run out of on ramp and stomped their brakes coming to rest in the median before the ramp ended. I had in effect blocked them and run them off the road by trying to let them in. Essentially the same thing that happened to Jules only with the exact opposite motive.

After that I decided I'd just let the guy on the on ramp figure it out since its his problem anyway and helping was just as likely to fuck them over as ignoring them. I have no fucking idea what they're doing. I figure just continuing on at a steady predictable pace is the best thing for all parties involved.

Now you've got the oblivious people that will just try and ram you the fuck out of the way without checking their blind spot sometimes but that's another story.

I avoid the right lane in general because of this. Both idiots speeding down it too fast and idiots deciding to merge at 40 mph should DIAF.

Same thing around where I lived. It is a completely stupid design.

I think there's a name for these abominations although I've forgotten it right now. They're cheaper to build and take up less space obviously and are suppose to be a good solution for infrequently used exits. Why the smallest one is installed on the absolutely busiest exit in the entire state of Vermont is beyond me though. To make matters worse the portion of the curved road that comes just prior to the actually merge lane beginning is at such a sharp angle that anything aside from a stock car on bone dry roads will go careening off into the green at any speed above 35 mph so you can't even speed up before you get to the ramp to make immediate use of the tiny ass space. God help you if you get an old person in front of you that STOPS at the point of the yield sign...as if this were a 4 way intersection in town not the entry point to the interstate! Its a nightmare but thankfully I don't usually have to deal with it on my commute.

I had a large enough space and was going the proper speed. Trouble is, the guy in that lane was going much faster than the posted speed limit and that space was closing. He was neither slowing nor moving over into the next lane when he could have done either. I couldn't speed up because there were cars in front of me that were also merging onto the freeway going the same speed I was (or slightly slower). My only option was to cut him off or go on the shoulder because of the short on ramp and the fact that this guy didn't seem like he was going to let me merge.

Ultimately, he slowed right at the last second and let me merge. It just wasn't how I would have handled it. Christ, how many times do I have to repeat this? :whiste:

I've had that happen before. Some douchebag cottager in a Mercedez was ripping it in the right lane, I was trying to merge at 115 Km/h (limit was 100, average is 120). I "cut him off", by which I mean I just merged with at least 3 car lengths between us, but I "inconvenienced" him by not letting him be a prick. My passenger told me he passed me while giving my a nice gesture.

you think that's a short ramp check this one out:
http://maps.google.com/maps?q=77002...8&vpsrc=6&hnear=Houston,+Texas+77002&t=h&z=19

90 degree right hand turn and up hill so you can't even see if there's a gap until you've just about run out of ramp.

that's why we need V8s here :colbert:

This is also a 90 degree right hand turn that is uphill and you're coming off a traffic light at the bottom of the entrance to the freeway so you're basically stopped. A couple years ago I was getting on the freeway at this ramp and some lady in a Nissan Xterra spun out at the top of that ramp because she was going too fast. She actually did a 360 right in front of me and went into the right lane of the freeway.

I just drove right on past her... more stupidity at work during the morning commute.

I also cannot stand the people who use the whole ramp to get up to about 40-50mph. I always get up to 75-80mph, limit is 75mph here, before I get on. Now after I am on the road, I will move over if possible when I see someone coming up the ramps but not everyone is that smart and will stay the same speed next to me so that I cannot not move over to let people in. I like for people to use what I call the zipper effect but all people care about now days is themselves and wont care to give the extra .5 seconds to let someone over safe.

I once had a guy in super slow traffic not let me merge from an on ramp. 5 mph slow type of traffix. I had my blinker on and I was in between two cars expectign a gap to form. Nothing happened. So I just started drifitng into the lane and the F'er honked at me and started gesturing. I was ready to Fing kill him. He even motioned that he wanted to fight and started to open his door. I called him an idiot and asked where I was supposed to go.

Fing idiots in this world. And it's not liek I was one of those a-holes that goes to the very end of the on ramp to get as far ahead as possible. I actually took my time and was very patient to not be an a-hole.

learn to merge quicker, By the time you got to the R in Ronald you should have been in the middle lane.
