So, I'm driving home from Los Angeles the other night

You misunderstood me. My point was that if I'm doing 70 in 55 zone I'm already passing a bunch of cars. Now if you want to be passing those cars at 80 mph, well too bad I'm not risking getting a ticket just so that you could go 10 mph faster.

On the other hand if there are no other cars on the freeway then what's the big deal, you could just go around. I always pass cars like that on the right, not a biggy. My only beef is when the cars in the left lane are doing the same speed as the ones in the right, thus holding up traffic behind them.
When YOU [plural you] pay my tickets and insurance, i'll drive faster :p

IF i am clearly passing someone on the left and someone else pulls right up on my bumper wanting me to go [even] faster - they are TAILGAITING - about the most dangerous thing anyone can do . . . at thet point, IMO, they can go to hell. :|

are you one of those people that drives .5 mph more than the car they are trying to pass? if you are. DIE.

No . . . did you read my post . . . try again i bolded it just for you :p
since you probably won'rt find it, i'll duplicate it here:
"IF i am clearly passing someone on the left . . . "

and if you are one of "those" impatient tailgaiters YOU can go to hell.

even +1/2 mile per hour only will pass another car in about a minute . . . UNfortunately, there are many drivers in the fast lane that will try to MATCH the speed of the car they are "passing" . . . and of course, there are drivers on the RIGHT that will deliberately SPEED-UP so the driver on the left can't pass. :(

A MINUTE TO PASS?????? ARE YOU OUTOF YOUR FREAKING MIND?????

You evidently are a freaking impatient jerk.

i gave an EXAMPLE . . . you said +1/2 mph . . . i just did a rough calculation of 'how long' . . . i usually pass much more quickly . . .i.e. "clearly passing" [usually +5 mph the car on the right]

and when YOU pay my tickets and insurence i'll risk a ticket to go even faster.

you have no right to endanger others by tailgaiting [period]

Just realize the type of driver you are, and stay right. Let the fast drivers by. It really isn't that difficult.
What if i want to pass vehicles that are going at or below the speed limit?

Just realize that you have NO RIGHT to demand someone that is already passing go faster. :|

depends on where you drive. the drive between LA and Vegas is supposed to have the highest average speed in the country.

Yeah, when you get out near Palm Springs the speed limit is 75mph. You can easily do 80mph out there without worrying about being ticketed.

In Los Angeles the speed limit on the freeways is 65mph. You will never be pulled over for doing 70 in a 65 zone. Some areas (San Clemente) will set up speed traps and they will pull you over for 10-15mph over (I usually keep it around 70-72mph through there).

75-80 is usually going with the flow of traffic or slightly faster than the flow in most areas but, depending on the car you are driving, you may never get pulled over for driving 80mph on L.A. freeways. I was in my wife's 2003 Nissan Maxima (it is silver, no illegal tints, registration current, front and rear plate).
The road between Vegas and LA is also the most dsangerous in the country . . . more deaths per mile . . . and the cops ARE cracking down on "just 80 mph" according to recent national news.

I-10 to PS is 70 MPH, not 75 . . . . i drive it every day . . . cops are also starting to pull people over for "only 80 mph" :p

THANK. YOU.

It's not hard to pay ATTENTION. You are not the only one on the road. Be considerate of non-ninnies who want to go fast.

i ALWAYS do . . . however, some people are NEVER satisfied . . . and USUALLY they turn out to be an ass that really isn't going any faster than i was - they just want ME to go faster so "i" will get the ticket . . . THEY can go to hell.

I am not quite sure why you think I am demanding someone to move over if they are already passing or why you think my own advice is "DIE". Anyway, the point of this conversation is to discuss the selfishness of people who think that because they are driving 10 over the speed limit that means they can drive in the left lane REGARDLESS of whether they are passing someone or not.

Stay right, regardless of speed unless passing. There really is no other way to do it unless selfishness comes into play.

there are a lot of bad drivers in here.

1 minute to pass is fine. speeding up to pass someone, then slowing back down... what's the freaking point of stomping on the accelerator to pass someone just to slow down once you do? Well, if you want to waste gas, that's fine. Speeding up just to pass someone is also considered unsafe driving. if you need to do it, you obviously aren't going fast enough to justify passing them.

And to whoever it is that says it's not our job to regulate the speed of others that are breaking the law..... you're right. but SO WHAT? it's not our job to go out of the way to help people that are breaking the law. a bad analogy (but also a correct analogy) would be getting out of the way of someone that just robbed a jewelry store because not only is it not our job to stop them, we should also try to get out of their way.

my favorite "saw the guy get pulled over" story is when i was tooling along at 72 on a 65 freeway in the rightmost lane (everyone else was going faster) and this guy passes me going at least 20 mph faster than me. I looked over, thought it might be fun to race him, but no way because I couldn't catch up, too much time had passed.... finished the thought.... cruiser passes me with lights going, and i think the G35 was either trying to run away, or never bothered looking in his rear view mirror.

Impeeding the flow of traffic is at least, if not more dangerous than speeding. People in the left lane going as slow as (or worse yet, slower) people in the far right (at any speed) are dangerous. The laws are catching up as some states and you can get ticketed for both speeding and impeeding the flow of traffic, how's that a kick in that balls for ya?

You know what? If you see people who are driving slower than you in front of you, just switch lanes and pass the person. I do it all the time. When I'm driving at night, I usually hit about 70-100mph. So it all depends. If I see a car in front of me that is going slower than me, I switch to the right lane and pass the person, then I merge back onto the left lane again. Of course, if it's the daytime, a lot of times I feel like going around 70-75mph instead of the usual 90mph. If I see someone tailgating me with the other lanes empty, I'll slow down even more just to piss them off. :) I love pissing some drivers off. Next time I think I'll go the posted speed limit when someone is tailgating me, then if they try to pass me by switching lanes then coming back onto the lane that I'm on, I'll just speed up to prevent them from doing that. I do that all the time too to piss people off. Kinda fun. Haha. Yes, I'm a jerk.

i call BS . . . cops are tightening their "grace" to BELOW 10MPH.

my favourite incident was recent: i was in the fast lane folliowng a line of cars +10 MPH when a "hunter" CHP pulled onto I-10 . . . naturally everyone slowed EXCEPT the SUV behind me . . . i pulled to the right was quickly as i thought safe [with the CHP obviously observing] . . . but not quickly enough for the moron behind me [who evidently didn't see the "reason" for the slowdown] . . . he kept flashing his brights and following so i could read lipread his words in my rearview mirror . . . when i pulled right he took off like a jack rabbit [using part of the shoulder] and sped away followed shortly by the CHP . . .

i can't imagine the ticket he got, deservededly so.

It pisses me off when some sob will be going 65-70 in the fast lane, I wait for my chance and speed up to 80 to the lane on the right, and they speed up with me! WTF?!?!

And then the people who move over then speed up to 80 once they're in another lane!!

THAT's ME! I love it when all four lanes traffic perfectly aligns and boxes out anybody trying to speed their way through. WOO.

I have to share what happened to me while driving on a 5-hr trip last month. I'm on the interstate in the right lane doing 70 in a 65. No other cars around me. This 18 wheeler comes right up to my bumper and starts honking and flashing his lights at me! I was like what the...is my car on fire or something? He did this to me THREE times, and every single time there was NO ONE AROUND so he could have easily passed me by moving into the left lane. I've never been around such a retarded driver in my life. I finally got mad and sped up to 80 (and I HATE speeding) just to get away from him since he apparently didn't know how to pass. Moron. :|

Traffic was flowing at a nice breezy 90 mph last night at 10:00 coming from Santa Clarita to the San Fernando Valley on the 5. Let's just say, I have never ever gotten home from Six Flags Magic Mountain from door to door in 15 minutes before.
