If they are doing the speed limit, why should you care.

You are breaking the law by doing 80.

it isn't your role as a driver to regulate the speed of others drivers.

Hmm, no if I'm going that much faster than the speed limit I'm already passing other cars on my right.
If he was able to pass on the right, then odviously, they weren't in the process of passing people.

On the other hand if there are no other cars on the freeway then what's the big deal, you could just go around. I always pass cars like that on the right, not a biggy. My only beef is when the cars in the left lane are doing the same speed as the ones in the right, thus holding up traffic behind them.

I can't move over since I'm already passing cars. Going faster though will earn me a ticket.

i know they can't be possibly going to work because they're driving way under the speed limit in the left lane. sometimes as low as 45. they're completely oblivious to the huge line of cars that have built up behind them.

I've been driving around LA for the last 5 days and have noticed the very same thing. Something has changed out here. Even when not clogged, the freeways just don't move like they used to simply because of a much higher % of people doing the speed limit and even under in the fast lanes.

Thats what v8s and the other lanes are for.

US drivers generally dont know how to drive or yield.

You can get a ticket (I think) for not using the right lanes when not passing but I dont think Ive ever heard ofit being enforced.

How much over the speed limit do you have to be going on a freeway in LA before you are likely to be ticketed? How well do cops patrol the freeways there? I've never driven in LA before.

What was the speed limit?

It does not matter. It someone wants to pass move over for 2 seconds and let them. why because passing on the right is illegal and dangerous.

Passing on the right on the freeways is not illegal.

The speed limit was 65mph. Generally, traffic is flowing 75mph or so. Some faster some slower.

its illegal in my state.

"Passing on the right" laws refer to when you go off the pavement. If there are peopel waiting on a one lane road tu turn left and you pull over on the shoulder to pass them, then that can be illegal. On a multi=lane street you are free to drive in whatever lane you want and no one can get a ticket for going by someone when in the right lane. Otherwise you could drive 10 MPH in the left lane and no one would be able to go by you...

However, most states to NOT have laws about the passing lane. Lots just have signs that say "Slower traffic keep right" or "Left lane for passing" but rarely is it actually an enforceable law.

I don't mind how people play on the highways. I just stay to the right and watch them zoom by.

What gets me is when those people get on 2 lane roads and start applying some of the tactics mentioned. Riding my bumper, flashing their lights, putting on their brights. Not sure if they think this will make me go faster or if they think I should pull off onto the shoulder to let them pass. I just keep going at whatever speed I was going.

Usually these are the same people I meet at the traffic lights at the edge of town, and through their speeding to wait at red lights and zigzagging in traffic to try to find the fastest lane of traffic....they usually end up behind me by the other side of town. Slow and steady wins the race home. Oh well, they give me a laugh on the daily drive.

I too despise this. It makes me want to murder someone.

If you use Google you can find a vinly sticker for the top of your windshield that says "MOVE OVER" backwards so that it's readable by the person in front of you. I'm getting one soon and I only have a 4 cyl Jetta! That should give you an example of how horrible the traffic moves on 2-lane I-75 in Ohio. There was some WOMAN (it always is) going 65mph in the left lane for about 15 miles. I was honking from 3 cars back and so were the people in front of me but the biatch wouldn't move. No room in the right lane to pass, either.

taveling at 60 mph for a minute for passing would mean it is taking you an entire mile to pass a car thats about 5 yards long??? thats silly. you dont need to be passing then.

Yeah, when you get out near Palm Springs the speed limit is 75mph. You can easily do 80mph out there without worrying about being ticketed.

In Los Angeles the speed limit on the freeways is 65mph. You will never be pulled over for doing 70 in a 65 zone. Some areas (San Clemente) will set up speed traps and they will pull you over for 10-15mph over (I usually keep it around 70-72mph through there).

75-80 is usually going with the flow of traffic or slightly faster than the flow in most areas but, depending on the car you are driving, you may never get pulled over for driving 80mph on L.A. freeways. I was in my wife's 2003 Nissan Maxima (it is silver, no illegal tints, registration current, front and rear plate).

Trucks are not allowed in the left 2 lanes on SoCal freeways. They are supposed to drive in the 2 or 3 right lanes. Most freeways here are 4 or 5 lanes. Some are 6 if you count the carpool lane.
