So I went to the gun show today. WOW!

So with all the noise about the ASB going around and it being a particularly crappy day I decided to visit the local gun show today. I am an avid gun guy but haven't been to a show in about a year and half.

All I can say is WOW!

Showed up about 10 minutes before open to see a couple of hundred people waiting in line to get tickets and a line equally as long waiting to get in the door.

As has been the case at our local bass pro shops and walmart in the area ammunition was slim pickings. Anything they had sold quick, high and large quantity.
Not really sure what is up with the ammo but the prices are out of site even if you can find it.
Wolf ammo 40 was going for about $25 a box <--cheap ammo

The usual Georgia Arms (big ammo dealer at our shows) wasn't even there?

Prices on guns have just skyrocketed. ARs going in the mid 1000's and people were lined up to buy them. No SKS rifles from the local cheap guy to buy. WASR aks starting in the 699 and up range.

Pistols look to be 20-40% high. Saw S&W Sigma pistols that sold at some of the shows last year for $269 go for $379.

So after all this I watched person after person pony up big doe for anything they could get their hands on.

I was in aw at the prices and the frenzy that I witnessed. After 2 hours the place was mobbed with lines of about 70 people waiting to get tickets.

I sure hope this all dies down and prices return to normal.

Yep. Gun sales have gone nuts, especially AR's and other similar weapons likely to be affected by a new AWB. Obama skirted around the gun rights issue a lot during his campaign but his voting record is clear, and a lot of people picked up on that.

I would just like to know where the hell all the ammo is?

Over the past couple of years were heard that it was because of the war (fair enough).

Know what is the holdup.

I bought 500 rounds for my SKS at the first of last year for about 80 bucks.

They were selling SKS ammo for $130 for 300 rounds. That is almost .50 a shot

Is there somekind of "lets limit the ammo" movement going on?

Ammo has definitely skyrocketed and for that I am pissed off. I'm down to my last 23 (two-eight round and one-seven round magazines) rounds of .45 ACP. I do have an AR15 coming in to my local guy anytime for $750. :D

What AR did you get for that price? I can't even find an AR in stock anywhere much less for a decent price.

Ammo situation sucks

My hunting rounds Federal Premium Vital Shok 165g 308 Seirra BTSP last year were $25 a box. This year if you can find them are running $32.50.

^thats for 20 rounds:Q

Virginia gun show is the bomb.... i got my sks for really really really cheap, about 3 years ago. got 1000 rounds of wolf ammo... probably only used about 100 at the local outdoor range. range is about an hour away so I don't go as often. i want to get another one when the price goes down and replace the stock with a dragunov kit.

I'm having trouble finding a good lower parts kit. I wanted to build up a lower I have lying around. At least I bought all my crap pre-election before prices went nuts. The wait time on my Noveske was extremely short, now it's like 6 months or more.

I said this in another thread.

A very very close family friend owns a gun story and loves all the hoopla the right has made about Obama, the end of the world, and guns.

He is rolling in the dough because people are so paranoid they are willing to pay way over value on used guns.

It has gotten so ridiculous he told me one guy made a comment that he was buying guns yet wasn't sure how he was going to pay for heat if the winter got really bad.

I hope his daughters were able to keep warm from all the comfort in knowing their dad had a full arsenal.

It is a move to try to curb gun violence. Couldn't control the guns, so make the bullets expensive. I think they got the idea from hereHow to lower gun violence.

People panicking that a liberal in the white house and a liberal majority in both houses means the end of the second amendment!
The current "hotbed" issue is the numerous ammo serialization bills/actions that have been proposed (and continually voted down) in various states and districts.

Firearm and ammunition sales have spiked since Obama's nomination and continue to remain high as knee jerk knuckle-heads buy and hoard everything they can get their hands on. Firearm dealers are making a killing from the blinding idiocy spreading throughout the firearm owning community. My opinion is hey, good for them! I'm glad they can make some decent money from the unfounded panic of others...

Seeing as how the fairly recent DC v. heller has established precedence and the dozens of lawsuits that followed, it seems second amendment rights are rather secure.

this has been happening since at least Nov. 5, probably earlier.

i think with the official announcement that Obama is going to try for the ban again, it's only going to get worse now.

My thoughts too. Any kind of gun regulation is going to be years off. And it is ironic that most people complained about how ineffective the last AWB bill was. It was mostly a ban on cosmetics and high capacity magazines. It's just ridiculous, at least wait until there is something tangible in the pipe to go crazy over.

I'm all for gun control but think for the states it's too late. They'll apply the gun laws, and everyone (especially criminals) will already have plenty of guns anyway.

in all honesty, all the gun shows i have gone to are just to look around, never to buy. usually over priced stuff that is of questionable quality.

there are still deals to be had, you just need to be patient.

Even the seemingly endless supply of Mosin-Nagants is being dried up across most of the wholesalers. :Q

Not sure were you are located but here in VA there are a couple of dealers that literally will tell you "if anyone beats this price then it is either stolen or illegal".

Our gunshows have some of the best prices on handguns and rifles as well if those few dealers are carrying them.

But everything across the board is up.

Going try dicks today they are running a special on UMC handgun ammo.

Same here. I actually went to the show looking for a dragunov. Saw 2 there both were in good condition with the scope but the started at $899.

I bought a Yugi SKS unissued still in cosmoline for $169 last summer.

They didn't have any SKS yesterday other than I saw one Norinco that looked like my 5 year old had redone the stock and he wanted $499

Hope they come back down.

what kind of special?

here in central pa, the 9mm umc at dick's is 12.98 a box. it's 11.98 a box if you buy a case. it used to be like 7.98, or even 6.98.

Hmm, maybe the Gun companies realized the potential of the Gillette razor scheme - sell the handle for cheap while the blades are big $$$. Guns cheap, bullets expensive, sounds profitable no?

If I could actually find a case of 9mm UMC for 11.98 a box I would go sit in the parking lot of the gunshow and triple my money. We probably will not see 7.98 a box again.

I'm glad I bought my AR when I did (about this time last year). I paid $730 for a complete rifle made my Stag arms. Today I see the same rifle going for $900+ if it can even be found in stock.

Unfortunately, I did not stock up on ammo at the time since I was moving, and it is not getting awfully close to $0.50 per round. Ridiculous.
