Don't forget that a big part of the ammo prices skyrocketing was the fact that copper prices were through the roof until recently. My buddy works for a large copper mining company in AZ, and he said that now prices have slumped (with the economy), and they just laid off ~1500 people.

With lower copper prices should come lower ammo prices, if people will stop panic shopping for it.

How depressing...I'm finally in a financial position to consider buying an AR or an AK, but the prices are stupidly high. Need to buy a barrel for my Kar98K -- I hope the frenzy hasn't affected that market.

Know what is the holdup.

I bought 500 rounds for my SKS at the first of last year for about 80 bucks.

They were selling SKS ammo for $130 for 300 rounds. That is almost .50 a shot

Is there somekind of "lets limit the ammo" movement going on?

The Democrats tried to pass a law that would have limited ammunition back before the most recent election, they will likely try again.

I've been looking for an M44 to go alongside my 91/30 sniper and they are definitely getting harder to find.

Same here. I actually went to the show looking for a dragunov. Saw 2 there both were in good condition with the scope but the started at $899.

I bought a Yugi SKS unissued still in cosmoline for $169 last summer.

They didn't have any SKS yesterday other than I saw one Norinco that looked like my 5 year old had redone the stock and he wanted $499

Hope they come back down.

You don't buy a Dragunov for $900. $3,000+ for a real Dragunov. If you're talking about the Romanian version, you can find them in a nice package for $799 here: http://www.classicarms.us

The M44s and M38s seem to be pretty much gone from the big dealers. Some still have 91/30s left but even those are fetching $90-$100 now.

there is alot of panic buying that is affecting everything from components to the finished products. Manufactors were surprised at the depth of the response but most will tell you that the items are still available, it will just take longer then usual. This response is based on what the gun control groups are saying now that Obama is POTUS, and based on Obama's voting recording in relation to gun control.

the recent Heller case more clearly established some guidelines, but there is already talk of how those guidelines can be applied that wouldn't contradict the ruling, but still have significant effect on gun control; most of this is based on who decides what constitutes "generally accepted". An interesting first test case will involve portions of the Omnibus bill that was passed through; it was constructed in such a fashion that no amendents would be allowed, and many members of congress will readily admit that they didn't have time to read the entire bill. recently it was decided that handguns could be carried in national parks, but a portion of the omnibus bill would recode who oversees the administration of many of the parks, and the agency now destined to oversee those parks has already identified that they do not support the right to carry handguns (loaded) in the parks.

If you have any doubt of the POTUS's intent, look only as far as his AG's comment that the administration would push to bring back the ban of 1994. It's a far reach to consider that the US AG would make a statement like that, without knowledge and support of the POTUS. lol right now i imagine the AG is saying........."I drank what??"

daniel1113 - Hey, another Stag Arms AR owner! My own gun was stolen from my house two weeks ago (damnit, damnit, damnit!) but while I had that gun, I loved it to death. I'd just purchased it from a dealer up in New Hampshire a year and a half ago. Ah well.

Also, I heard that Obama's administration tried to reintroduce a bill very similar to the 94 Assault Weapons Ban, but that Pelosi and several of the other Democrat leaders actually blocked it from moving forward. Apparently they didn't want a repeat of the massive reaction to the bill after it was passed and the House and Senate shifted towards Republican control.

I find all the paranoia about Obama banning guns to be pretty funny, but weird.

He and the Dem leadership have made ZERO moves and very little statements for gun control. They have much bigger fish to fry and going after guns would just be a distraction.

But, this hasn't stopped the NRA from going after Obama during the election, or rumors spreading about non-existent gun control laws.

Personally, I think that some very smart, but devious people in the gun rights movement have been spreading false rumors about Obama "TAKING OUR GUNZZZZ!!!" in order to get all the gun nuts to go out and stock up on guns an ammo.

From change.gov directly stating Obama policy and platform. Yeah, it's a conspiracy.

"Address Gun Violence in Cities: Obama and Biden would repeal the Tiahrt Amendment, which restricts the ability of local law enforcement to access important gun trace information, and give police officers across the nation the tools they need to solve gun crimes and fight the illegal arms trade. Obama and Biden also favor commonsense measures that respect the Second Amendment rights of gun owners, while keeping guns away from children and from criminals. They support closing the gun show loophole and making guns in this country childproof. They also support making the expired federal Assault Weapons Ban permanent."

Gun was stolen from your house? Nicely done, thanks for keeping guns out of the hands of criminals....

the lack of concern on your part about this is rather appalling.

NRA has to spend the money the fools give them on something, might as well be on the boogeyman

Yes, let's blame homeowners for being robbed. That's a good policy. Unless he handed a gun to a known criminal, he has absolutely zero blame. A gun is a piece of property. Nothing else.

Your idea doesn't work, since many of the gun manufacturers don't make their own ammo. Some do, but most don't.

Wouldn't be surprised, seems you could make a killing doing reloads at home right about now.

A very very close family friend owns a gun story and loves all the hoopla the right has made about Obama, the end of the world, and guns.

He is rolling in the dough because people are so paranoid they are willing to pay way over value on used guns.

It has gotten so ridiculous he told me one guy made a comment that he was buying guns yet wasn't sure how he was going to pay for heat if the winter got really bad.

I hope his daughters were able to keep warm from all the comfort in knowing their dad had a full arsenal.

The Romanian PSL is basically a gussied up AK47. A real Dragunov has a completely different action. They fire the same round, but they're quite different. I was thinking about getting a PSL because I do like the look, but then I held one at a show and realized how short the stock is. For a sniper rifle, the stock is way too short IMO. Either that or my arms are too long. The firing position would be very uncomfortable unless I put an extended butt plate on the thing.

I've also read mixed reports on the accuracy of the PSL, you may want to do some research first.

That's just my opinion though.
