So I ordered a fidget spinner

Lol I know right? I guess that's what you get for a cheap commodity product vs something industrial. Though this got me thinking, you can buy bearing assemblies on their own (probably higher quality if you find some made in USA or Canada), can make lot of fun stuff with those.

I'm under the impression that they originated in the knife industry. First out was heavy-duty tops made with machined brass, wood, titanium, etc, some with bearings in the tip. From there the concept expanded to include spinning toys for the hand. Few in the knife world were drawn to such devices, but they did find a mass market in the youth segment.

That's how it looks from where I'm sitting anyway.

They made it through the day by chewing their nails mostly.
They don't anymore, so... winning, I guess.

Finally they are destroying these fidget spinners! 🙂 I ordered a hand spinner a few weeks ago after reading an article about fidget spinners. Played with the fidget spinner a few times, broke it, fixed it, gave it to my son. Had fun with it ~5 minutes. I am still wondering why people are getting crazy about this toy. Plus I have never understood why fidget spinners are supposed to be "anti-stress" toys considering that I am much more stressed after playing with it...!!! 🙂

It's no different than pogs or yo-yos or rubix cubes or anything else...just another silly trend.

Although I just got a glow-in-the-dark one for $1.99, so....awww yeah

Oh and we used to make switchblades out of rubber bands and popsicle sticks.

crossbows made out of paper and rubber bands that shot newly sharpened pencils were the fidget spinner in my day.
