I finished the first one. It was alright, not great, pretty forgetable when everything is said and done. I'll certainly have a look at TW2 also, but I'll probably wait for the price to drop.

Same here, I really enjoyed the first game for some reason. I think it failed because it was marketed as an improved Oblivion, with additional features like mounted combat. Of course, in reality it was way too flawed and low-budget to compare with Oblivion, but still a decent game on its own.

Only done the initial "tutorial" part of TW2 so far. The first part is an escape from the dungeons, just like Oblivion.. But there's a much greater sense of urgency and danger, much of it due to the cinematic sequences. Then you get to see the first glimpse of the outside world. Graphics is significantly improved, though the bloom effect can be overpowering at times. Voice acting is improved and the strange mix of modern and archaic english is gone. They're even poking some fun at the first game:

Magic looks interesting with the "spell cards" that can be combined to create almost any spell. Ranged combat seems quite viable too.

Cutscenes = NTY. Maybe it's just my opinion, but RPGs should not have cutscenes. You are supposed to be playing the game as if you were the main character, and taking you out of the character's viewpoint really kills the sense of immersion, IMHO. If you want to tell a story, do it through the main character's eyes. If you can do it well, it is SOOOOO much better than even the greatest game with cutscenes.

Bioshock 2 does that well. I'm playing it at the moment and so far they are all from the players first person pov.

I pre-ordered my copy, its released on Friday (here in UK) so I should receive my retail version hopefully Saturday or Monday depending on post(I went first class which is supposed to be next day in theory).

I played the original Two Worlds years ago when it was released and thought it was ok however nothing special just average, most of the current reviews of Two Worlds 2 are positive , they have appeared to have listened to the feedback on the first one and improved gameplay etc...

I'm not sure what version the retail copy comes with but I did notice they've the 1.1 Gold patch and 1.1.2 hotfix patch out as well (I did download both ).

Latest patch you can get here from their forums(Hotfix one).

http://board.zuxxez.com/showthread.php?t=37956

Changes:
Fixed problem with locked doors for save games started in 1.0 version (Cheznaddar - Hatmandor sewers and caves near Bayan),
Fixed problem with selecting and displaying tooltips for small icons in inventory (XBox controller),
Added "Resizable Interface" setting.

Just so you guys are aware, gogamer.com has the import version available right now for $35. I bought it a week or two ago but haven't gotten the chance to fire it up yet. That, and i'm waiting on a few parts to finish my intel i5 quad core build, so i'll probably wait until I have that machine up and running as it will probably run better on there anyway.. :)

LOL. Would love to know how that happened. Perhaps you can just get it from Steam? I think they're putting it up this week sometime.

A 7.5 from Gamespot is pretty reasonable considering they always mark hard against smaller unknown developers. Meanwhile, Rockstar gets a 9 for their PC port of GTA4 that didn't even run on half the pcs....

The shipment was "wrecked".. That doesn't sound good, lol. Maybe they packaged the content poorly, there was water damage, or any other number of things.. Hopefully the delay doesn't hurt their bottom line too much as i'd like to see the franchise continue. There are too few decent open world games out there already.

Ok tried the game for like an hour. The first part is kind of like a tutorial...a little annoying since I can't wait to act free and explore as I see fit but I think this time is coming soon.

Graphics are beautiful, from rocks to water...especially water it really look amazing. Nice textures and details. World feels animated and with full of places to explore.

Text is a bit huge though...and voice acting...sometimes is really bad and sometimes it's fine. Nothing gamebreaking for me there, anyways nothing can be gamebreaking for me.

So far i'm enjoying my time in there, can't wait to explore more!

Again, it's available on direct2drive and yea I paid full 50 bucks...hope it's worth it.

It's up on Steam. I've bought it - lots of positive stuff from people playing it as well.

Damn this game is tough at early on. No way to know the strengh of a monster so a simple skeleton or Scorpion can demolish you while you barely scratch it...

Fun game though with clumsy but intuitive gameplay.

Level 9 now and doing some side quests to level up more.

It's not as polished as I thought it would be. The menus, while easy to use and clear, are a little chaotic and somewhat "ugly". The items have all sorts of icons attached to them. Some are pretty straight forwarding while some are somewhat incomprehensible. I'm gonna check to find something about those, nothing major though.

Some animation glitches too while attacking when blocking...like no animation at all but you still do damage. Other thing, I died while hitting a crate!?!?!? Don't understand that at all, probably a bug. Same thing happened when I was fighting a skeleton in a cave and cornered it to a wall and I died (HP was over half) randomly...probably because I hit the stone wall and my mace rebounded in my face hahahh!

Game look really good. On my rig (see below) I have all settings at the highest possible without any stuttering or low FPS in 3.5 hours of playtime, really cool. Water look AMAZING! Waves, reflections, tranparency...really well done there. I'm not a big fan of Depth of field (DOF) and it's cool that you can tone down it's effect or simply deactivate it, same with dynamic shadows.

I hope some patch go out soon to eliminate the little bugs and glitches here and there and i'd love to know if a mob will destroy me or not...but that "feature", tho a double-edge sword, can add a little to the exploration and challenge.

EDIT: Found this about the icons: http://vnmedia.ign.com/twoworldsvault.ign.com/fms/images/guides/30/1288551525_fullres.jpg

Put a couple of hours into it and like it. A couple of things that stop it from being a great game though

- Crappy inventory. Really bad.
- Poor lip syncing...I have no idea why German devs always fail on this.
- Stiff animations

On the plus side the overall environmental graphics are very good and the world seems huge with lots to explore.
