What would happen if I plugged the box into one of the phone outlets in my house? Would it make all the outlets live? There is a strong warning in the instructions NOT to do this.

Update:

I disconnected the line coming into the house and connected my Vonage box to the wall. Now all my outlets are live and I can use a voice phone over them. My DirecTV boxes can connect as well.

But, as has been reported before about all VoIP services, my Tivo cannot call out. So I think I'm going to try the hack that makes it so the Tivo doesn't try to call out.

So, it's a success for the most part :)

Update #2

I got the Tivo to call out!

In the prefix you need to put ,#019. This slows down the Tivo modem and it works like a charm. Then dial up for new access numbers. Pick one you like, and make sure you choose the option to make it dial the number like this: 1-xxx-xxx-xxxx. It MUST dial 1, plus the area code.

Your Vonage box MUST be set to use the highest bandwidth (found in "features" on the online control panel at Vonage.com). If you cut the available bandwidth, Tivo cannot call out successfully.

I doubt it would.

But I've seen people on the web claim this is possible.

Try it and let me know. I havevonage also

LOL, I'm worried that the power from the still connected, but deactivated incoming phoneline would kill the box. Is that possible?

No I have not read up on it. Am interested though. But, The lines in your house all go to the dmarq "box outside where all the lines come into the house or building"

Ah, but I thought they all connected into one line there, so effectively, they were all one giant split system? I dunno.

I haven't tried. I've seen where some people can't use Tivo with it, and other can. I've seen others claim problems with faxes, and other say they have no problem.
