So I got offered a new position...

Okay so anyways... Monday I had a closing interview with this company I was applying to. They finished up with me and the HR Lady discussing salary, and she said "We can offer you 67k". I asked for a slight bit more (not a dealbreaker, I think... just 3k more, to make it an even 70k). She said she would find out and let me know.

This was Monday. I didn't get a call on Tuesday, so I am just wondering how to read this. Should I call today, or let them call me? I only ask because I want to have time to write my letter of resignation and such from my current position.

Any help is appreciated :)

Even if they made me the offer? It seems suspect... it's why I ask. Besides, I'm not asking for eleventy billion more.. just 3k.

*sarcasm meter not working* :p

They could be sitting and mulling on it. Feel free to be the aggressor here and calling them, but don't act like (unless you mean it) that it's $70K or nothing.

Nah, I can do with the 67k but I just didn't want to accept the first offer because I think that it's just idiotic on my part not to argue for a few bucks more.

But you turned down their offer. Don't write that resignation letter just yet. Depending on the company, and how much money they have to throw around, 3 k could bump you out for the guy willing to work for 65k. You just have to wait it out.

So bad idea to call them, or?

I was just going to call and say I would appreciate an answer so I have time to draft my letter of resignation, and provide good notice to my boss.

They offered it to me. Their words were "We can offer you 67k" and then went into detail about the compensation package as a whole (401k etc).

What's going to be idiotic is if you don't get the job because you made an offer.

Hey if they want to lose me because I asked for more, then I probably don't want the job anyway because the future there would suck.

I did like the company though, so it would have been a good fit... but we'll see.

reading comprehension much?

Seriously I dont think 3k would be an issue at all.. just wait one more day and call the HR lady back. Don't sound too eager and don't mention about the 70k. Simply ask what the situation is.

so basically you may lose the job because you are a greedy bastard? gotcha.

its more than you make now, and it seems like it is significantly more based on your attitude, and you have the nerve to ask for more still? moron

What I was thinking. Is it worth losing a job over 3K which comes out to like $45 every week after taxes?

I always thought you negotiated to ask for a lot more....not just like a buck an hour. As far as they're concerned, now you're one of those employees who's always nitpicking about little things and asking for a little more all the time.....i.e. high maintenance and never satisfied with what they feel is fair.

Really though, if you look at the job and the location... what i was asking is MORE than fair. If they just wanted to find a person that will take a lowball figure, I hope they find him. I know what I'm worth and I asked for a figure that was respective of that.

Then maybe you should have asked for another 10K and let them counter with 3-5K.....that way you let them KNOW it was just a negotiating tactic and not nickel-and-diming/discontentment.

Hell, there's a very solid chance you may still get it.

Sorry, but you are totally wrong. He has a job now. He doesn't HAVE to have this job. If a few K is really a big deal to this company then any future raises will also probably be a big deal. If he has that little chance of getting any more money in the future it would be better to know it now before he leaves his current job.
