personally i woulda taken the 67k god knows if you do well in 1 year youll get that and more.. 3k isnt enough to bitch about.

It also depends on if they are part of a larger corporation. I had a friend who applied to a company owned by Lockheed Martin. The local company badly wanted him and wanted to pay him his asking salary of $70K based on his experience and masters in computer engineering. However the position was classified as a programming position and they were paying under market value for those. He pretty much found out because of corporate policies his best hope within 3 years would be to get up to $55K, so he turned them down and took a job with a smaller company.

6 months ago that company was bought out by none other than Lockheed Martin, except now he has an agreeable salary and is on a better program towards promotions.

So if they are part of a larger company, their hiring practices are probably dictated at a higher level and they might have to follow stricti(and sometimes irrational) procedures.

I had an offer for a management position that was 20K LESS than I made in combined wages that year. They were a bit offended that I did not take it, but I could tell they figured I'd be their slave and would not be able to do consulting anymore. I countered with the 20K higher figure, they went away.🙂

Okay, here's the update...

I got the job, they met everything I needed. I lose some benefits in the process because I'm going from a HUGE company to a small one, but it's nothing to write home about...

I start in two weeks. I used to have a 1.5 hour commute EACH way (in the car), now it's 45 minutes on the train, so I can relax while going. The hours are flexible, but I'm opting for a 9-6 schedule so I can get out at a reasonable hour and get to the gym, go out with my girl, etc. I'll be working at a media company in the heart of Times Square. My responsibilities are much the same except with more money and an 8% yearly bonus.

Anyways, that's the jist of it! I'm excited to start, so hopefully this works out well! The new boss I have seems cool and the coworkers seem cool too, so I think I'll fit in well.
