Just a few sign ups away :p

My friend just got approved to get one, but wants to wait til they get the new ones (with tiger and 512 ram) in 6-8 weeks minimum. I don't think they'll ever give him a new one but who knows. Watch out though he ended up ahving to get 16 people to sign up cause they would reject some everytime he sumbitted it. He had 12 when he submitted the last time and got approved.

For all the people bashing the guy, he's getting the Mac because the software he needs on it isn't available on the PC in the same pricerange. Trust me, I've looked.

I just find Mac's harder to use because I don't use them as much as Windows so I don't know exactly where every setting and such is...easy problem to fix though.

apples ENTIRE business model is based on user friendly-ness, and its true, because they make the mad money. technically it is(its got to be) more simple than windows because apple spends more money on UI design than MS does(ever did, and most likely ever will).

and i know EXACTLY what your talking about with the mac menus being hard to find. all my friends who are PC only have this entire, almost backwards, logic about where menus and the like should be placed.

Well then they failed as far as I'm concerned. They make "the mad money" eh? Yay for them.

And...the menus are easy to navigate on both systems. Apple just likes to bury settings for some stuff for some reason. OS X has gotten better about it. I don't know what all this backwards logic mumbling you're doing has to do with anything....oh that's right....I thought I got a whiff of Apple Fanboy?.

Well, except for the fact that 99% of the multimedia/graphics/publishing industry uses Macs. :p

They are all sheep. Apparently they like to spend more money than is necessary on equipment that they have been told all their life is the best for multimedia/graphics/publishing. I find my PC works much better for said tasks and yes..I have had to use Macs to do it in the past and was not happy with the performance and could find no reason why I would want to use a Mac over my PC.

How many sign ups do you actually need before you get a free one? Guess the same question can be said about the free XBox 360s.

its funny cause he used the standard black guy/red shirt avatar that the spammers.. when i first read that, i was waiting for someone to say "BAN!!!":D

They have so much great free software on there that it was probably worth the money alone.

iGarage was what sold me but I'm going to make it my dedicated multimedia computer and store all my photography, mp3's and piano compositions on there.

Now that I have gotten serious about music and photography I really understand why professionals like these so much. They are 10x easier to use and bug free. The software is all designed beautifully.

I don't understand the mac people who swear they are better. My WinXP machine never crashes is plenty easy to use and works great. Photoshop doesn't work any faster on the Mac despite their claims. I use Picasa 2 for just browsing all the photos I have on here...it's free and works great.

Let's see..I took a photoshop class and they had all mac systems with wacom tablets...I had those things crash on me..the tablets were not very quick to respond (I could draw a brush-stroke...wait 10 seconds and it would show up)....Ended up not learning much in that class.

Now....not saying they are bad. But no better than my XP system. And it would cost you a LOT more money to buy a Mac that is comprable to my system with an AMD X2 CPU, 2GB RAM and 2 74GB Raptors in RAID 0.

I must admit that their LCD's are killer though...awesome stuff.

Well it's not even the stability that sells me. It's the simplicity. It's just the ability to use all their software without even having to think about it. Everything is just so intuitive and user friendly.

edit: I know it's really slow compared to Windows based systems but you really don't need that much horsepower for the things I am using it for. Computers today are way overpowered for most of the things people use them for. Saving money on old but still good technology and concentrating on a user friendly package seems like a great solution for your typical computer user.

intuitive my a$$ - dragging a cd to a trash can isn't easier than pressing the damn eject button on the cd drive!

free mini mac - 10

free xbox 360 - 8

For the xbox360 I have 5 referrals so far, just 3 to go. The best part is they're giving away the XBox 360 Premium Edition

It probably won't ship until January 2005 but that's fine with me since I'm saving $399 :)

You meant 2006 right?

If it was anyone else we'd be looking at a ban-party right now...

not referral links :)

actually, all the movie gurus who are making animated films like Nemo, Toy Story, etc use mac desktop systems.

They may be using mac workstations, but the real workhorses are the render farms. I know Pixar used to have a Sun based render farm, but I believe since 2003 they have been all x86 CPUs running linux

i had a look at their render farm in emeryville a year or so ago and they were dells. maybe they've changed by now but not likely.

I just got one a few weeks ago as well, and it's a pretty cute little toy! OS X is really cool, and this little thing suprisingly has enough power to run Unreal Tournament 2004 at 1024x768 without it looking like a slide show.

Actually, they fixed that in OS X. The trash icon changes into an eject button when you're dragging mounted media.

Of course, as stupid as that UI design decision was in Mac OS, it wasn't nearly as stupid as putting the "Shut Down" option under the friggin START menu in Windows! :)

you start the shutdown procedure... heh.

as for the cd drive, I don't like hte software driven eject either.. it's a little uneasy for me. still would like a mac mini w/ a 7200 rpm drive in it.. that won't overheat from it.

Yes I did mean January 2006, sorry about that. I would edit my post but DivideBYZero would probably ASSume that I'm just covering up my tracks, so I won't edit that post.

Why would anyone get banned for merely mentioning a "free iPod" like site without posting a REFERRAL LINK (which is against the forum rules, regardless of who you are).

Have others posted about "free iPods" and gotten away with it? Yes.
Is that right? Yes, as long as they don't post a REFERRAL LINK.
Re-read my post, have I posted any REFERRAL LINKS? Hell no.

So again, why would anyone get banned for mentioning a site and not posting a REFERRAL LINK?

For every 1 who switches from PC to Mac, I bet I've converted 1 from Mac to PC. You live in a dream world if you honestly believe Apple will ever have more then 5-10% market share.

Yeah, he didn't list a referral link, merely linked to the main page of that site. If anything he was just making fun of the people who do spam for referrals.

anyways i played with the mac some more today. specifically iMovie (which I have used in the past.)

As soon as I realized I was going to be able to use that to make high defination movies i canceled my order for the mini (ordered in through the school with their sad little discount) and am going in on monday to get a dual processor G5.

I've always wanted dual processors... never thought it would be Apple to do it for me ;)
