You need to change your mouse prefs to let you tap to click. Also, if anyone else is reading this, this isn't set up by default, you have to go in to the system prefs -> keyboard and mouse -> trackpad and click the button that says 'Tap trackpad using two fingers for secondary click'.

However, this f'n rawks. I'm so used to it now I miss it when I boot in to windows. It's much easier for me to move the mouse over something and tap both fingers to right click than it is to actually use a right mouse button. I hope this is something they can implement in windows soon.

Another awesome feature of OS X that is under the same pref panel is 'Zoom while holding Ctrl'. I use it all the time for videos embedded in to web sites. If it doesn't give you a full-screen option I zoon in until the video fills up the screen. When it's done, I zoom back out. The only complaint I have is that the mouse cursor is visible over your video but its a really minor complaint compared to not being able to see a video full-screen at all.

That pretty well sums it up for me as well. I feel like a retard sitting in the corner when I sit down to a Mac.

lol, so true...it may be because i've used windows for so long, but it just seems way more intuitive than mac os.

i sit down in front of a mac and i just go DURRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR....

it's like i've never seen a computer before

It's always fun to give those that claim to be computer pros at ANY hardware a simple to use Macintosh.

"Oh wait I am great at all PC hardware, no one uses Macs"

Hand them some SCSI devices

"Oh wait I am great at all PC hardware except SCSI"

Hand them the next thing.

"Well I really am a master of windows, it makes no sense to upgrade with $400 Dells out there"

Hand them a passworded box and ask them to get in.

"Well I can play Halo 3 really good"

Rinse and repeat.

A macintosh is pretty intuitive. Just browse around without thinking it's going to work just like XP or another flavor of windows.

anyone that says they know everything is or is an expert at "computers" is, plain and simple, a fucking liar. there is just way too much stuff out there to know everything.

Honestly, a child could figure out OSX...

I say that because I was tired of trying to troubleshoot tech support issues for my father over the phone and I bought him a Mac.. the calls have stopped. If he can figure out it (he calls me about copy and paste still) then you damn well better be able to.

I rather prefer my Macbook to my old Dell laptops. I like keeping my desktop a PC, but I find myself spending more and more time on the Macbook. And for those really important (to me) programs (e.g. PeopleSoft), there is always BootCamp.

If there isn't a disc in the drive, just pull the USB cable. If you want to eject a disc from the drive, you drag the disc to the trash from the desktop.

Where is all this stuff downloading to? Where is my computer? Hmm... How do I install stuff?
I'm sort of winging that part not really sure what's happening. But...this is driving me crazy:

How do I eject the disc from my usb dvd drive? Don't tell me I need to go into the DVD player software and hit eject. Are there disk letters on this thing? Can someone let who is familiar with macs enlighten me? Thanks in advance. ugh... <-- feels dumb

it's pretty idiot-proof. everything downloads to the desktop. you install stuff by clicking the .dmg file and installing. in order to uninstall the program, you drag it to the trashcan.

to eject anything, drag the component to the trash bin. for example, if you put a dvd in and you want it ejected, drag it to the trash.

you're making it harder than it is.

Drag the MacBook into the trash. Then set it on fire. Good luck finding the matches with one mouse button.

huh? one mouse button??

I've been cross platform for more than a decade - operationally they're really not that different these days. Unless you want to fiddle with anything that's not in the system prefs on OSX, that is... :p

or right click... :D

you can right click on a mac.

Mac lovers remind me of scientologists, especially the ones I have to work with. I'm sure not all mac users are like that, but too many are.

you probably go "durrrrrrrrrrrrr" because you've got to be an idiot to not figure out how to use a mac in like 20 seconds.

How so? You get rid of things by putting them in the trash. You want to 'get rid' of the disc (or whatever is connected to your computer), so you put it in the trash. Maybe it's just my low-tech mind, but it seems pretty clear-cut to me.

not to mention apple laptops last much longer than pc laptops... and they still look sweet after years have passed. my powerbook is still going strong after having it for 4 years... the only thing that sucks on it is the antenna because it's outdated. i upgraded the memory, too. other than that, it's solid.

it still looks sexy... like a macbook pro.

if you don't like that method, you could always press the eject button on the top of the keyboard.

or you could right click on it and eject.

or you could go into macintosh hd and press the eject image next to the drive name.

Last much longer how so? You can't upgrade them yourself...which in itself is insanity. I hear L. Ron Hubbard calling...

I'd say people think it is slightly awkward because of what the trash can represents. When you delete a file, you are disposing of it with no intention to ever use it again (for the most part). Removing a physical device or piece of media isn't the same at all. The vast majority of the time, you have the intent to use it again, so throwing it away makes no sense.

the eject button on the KB isnt intuitive either, if you have never used a Mac you will have no idea WTF it is anyway
