where's the eject button on the keyboard? is it labeled eject?

how do you right click with only 1 mouse button?

how do i get into the macintosh hd?

all that, except for the eject button (if its labeled eject) is assuming someone is already familair with a mac.

-The button with either 'eject' or the eject symbol on it

its not labled eject its just the symbol, and that is the issue, i didnt even knoe that there was an "eject symbol" untill 2001 when i had to use the macs my college had, most people still dont know what it is

my dad who has had a AV player sence the 8 track, he had a beta max and a VCR when they first came out still doesnt know what the pause and play symbols are,

ive never understoon the "macs are easier" statement for someone who doesnt know either Windows is a far easier system to learn

HAHAH WTF?! are you kidding me? you've never used a dvd player or a vcr or a walkman or a tape deck or anything before using a mac? wtf kind of rock did you live under?

actually i had a walkman back when they looked like WW2 army phones, and any number of random eletronic devices, and i honestly never paied attention to what the eject symbol was,

as i said i never knew there was one untill my school got those ET looking Imacs and put them everywhere, hell i even owned a PowerPC back in like 98, first computer i owned was a mac, running OS 8.xx its KB didnt have an eject button, the CD drive had a button and IIRC it wasent labled it was just there

you never used a cd drive on a pc before? you never saw the eject symbol over the eject button? how did you know that one was eject and the other was play?

did you have a cassett player in your car? how about a cd player? are you just completely blind or oblivious or something??? wtf? that's like not knowing wtf the mcdonald's logo looks like.

do you actually look at the drive on your PC? mine has always say on teh floor next to a desk, theres 1 button on them and it ejects things, when i owned portable music devices that wernt MP3 players they all said PLAY on them, or the play button was massive campaired to the others, diskmans didnt have an eject button you just opened them up

my CD player for my stereo has one, and the symbol is there, however i never paied attention to it, as it also says EJECT, and honestly once you figure out what button it is you dont look at it you just know where it is by location

no when i got my first car, it only had a radio, then i got XM, but th epoint still remains, most people who arnt uber techies dont even notice the symbol, they know button location, or if you are my dad you dont even know what the play symbol is

my moms car is a 2000 it says eject, no symbol, my dads is a 2006 says eject no symbol

How would I know what the Macintosh HD does? I guess if one was already knowledgeable about PCs, you could infer that it stands for hard drive, but why would I look at the hard drive for a way to eject a cd or even a flash drive.

it is labeled... it's got a big idiot-proof eject logo right on the button. if you can't figure it out, you're an idiot.

and the thing about going into the mac hd to eject is just one of the many ways to allow people to eject something, wherever they might be when navigating through their computer. there are multiple ways to do it... you don't just need one.

if you can't figure out the first couple ways do eject something, you should stay away from computers altogether, whether they be pc or mac.

you don't need to be an uber techie in order to know a very common symbol that's virtually impossible to miss if you've ever used an electronics device where something needed to be ejected.

i'm sorry, but seriously, you've got to be an idiot not to know what the eject symbol looks like.

To the person who said Mac users were like Scientologists....I think you're wrong. They are more like abortion clinic bombing whack job fundamental Christians or lalalalalalalalalalalalala Allah akbar screaming suicide bombing whack job Muslims.

Saying you don't like Macs for whatever reason is the same to them as drawing a cartoon of Jesus butt fvcking Mohamed to either of the above mentioned groups.

Geez.. Either some of you guys are incredibly stupid, or you're just adding flamebait to this thread. OS X is a different user interface than Windows, which means there are different ways to do things. Do you honestly think that people who have never touched Windows in their lives would find it a simple and intuitive user interface? Yeah, right.

no im 26 and it had a normal crappy FM radio for 3 years, and then i put XM in it, they symbol is just something i never paid attention to, simple as that, and im not the only one who is that way, i asked my brother if he knew what it was and he didn?t know either, he?s a game programmer and uses comps more they most people, its not a hard concept to believe that some people just don?t memorize symbols, or they just don?t care enough to make the association

Hrmm, that does seem more in like with their reactions. That's kind of how one of the mac guys at work reacted when he was telling me about some problem he was having with his mac. I jokingly told him to buy a PC and he flipped out, throwing a piece of brass at me that I was working on.

Someone already did a test on this. They used elderly people, which in general have little to no experience with computers. One of the tests was to get on the internet by yourself. INTERNET Explorer seemed to be easier for them to find for some reason.

I agree. I have had a very broad experience with computers, software and hardware. Most I will claim is 'I am pretty good with that, I can take a look for you'.

Usually it's those with some store bought PC that got their own wireless setup that think now they can be a system admin for a Fortune 500 as "I don't know why people think networking is so hard".

The best is those that have 8 to 12 year old web page gurus at home.

If you have an external DVD drive hooked up to the Macbook, how does it know which drive to open up when you hit eject? Will it open all of them or does it ask you which one do you want to open?

I always hit alt-f4 and alt-u to shutdown. That's one of the reasons I don't like OSX, it seems like you have to do a lot more clicking/mouse navigation to reach the same result.

What a stupid thread. I only spent two weeks with Ubuntu as my primary OS and was able to figure out all I needed (for basic productivity) by clicking the big icons, looking at help files and using Google. We live in an era where you can learn almost everything you need to know using the big search box in the top right corner of your browser window. OS X supposed to be the epitome of user-friendliness (or so I hear) and a Mac can't possibly be harder to figure out than Ubuntu.

The mud-slinging and name-calling in this thread is ridiculous.

Nah this thread started out early with anti-mac zealots as it always does when Mac or OSX is mentioned and then kind of went to hell from there; yawn.

Zealots on either side are idiots, each OS has its place. Use the right tool for the right job. I use XP, OSX, Linux, Solaris, AIX, OpenBSD and HP-UX on a daily basis for work and for home use and they all have strengths and weaknesses.

Seems like this forum has tons of people with hard-ons for bashing Mac.. it's painfully obvious reading some of the childish replies.

I used Windows exclusively for 11+ years but I switched to a MacBook Pro when I started college. I love this thing, especially OS X. I hate to sound cliché but ... "It just works." Most of my dormmates on XP/Vista have been having major problems with their connections to the university wireless LAN but none of us on macs have had any sort of problem. They're also had problems signing onto the university network and when I talked to the IT admin, he told me they run Windows servers.

I sincerely thought the first thing I was going to do after getting my MBP was to get Boot Camp and XP Professional but I really don't see the need for it. Macs are just awesome. Sure, there's the learning curve, but if you're posting on ATOT, it shouldn't be less than a couple of hours.

? :)

I wasn't going to go that route, but I'm not sure I agree with that reasoning either. PCs are cheaper because there is more competition. I can pick every part, down to the heatsink on my chipset, in my PC. With a MAC, you get what is advertised and they certainly don't make it very easy to schedule an upgrade path. Some things, like memory, can be replaced easily. Try replacing the video card or motherboard.

The architecture of MAC hardware is essentially no different at the foundation. How they implement it is different. The iMac for example makes it very hard to change most of the parts, if not all of the parts, by yourself without voiding the warranty. It is a neat concept to include all of the pieces in the monitor and make a small, portable package, but you lose the ability to change anything.

Within this frame of reference, I would say MACs are more expensive with LESS of a life cycle as certain pieces of hardware become outdated faster than others, but the unit as a whole will obsolesce faster due to the inability to swap major components. An aged sound card will effect your performance much less than an aged CPU or hard drive. If you can't change any of them, you are forced to a crawl as the weakest link will begin to show as software is written for faster hardware.

It used to be that software was written after hardware was built. Hardware advances made the jumps in performance while software was following and adapting. Now it's the other way around. Software is written for hardware that doesn't even exist yet. This makes the hardware market more competitive and drives PC prices down since it is the vast majority of the market. I have nothing against MACs, but prefer to use the more beaten path for ease of use and portability in general. Then there is the issue of games, which basically don't exist in the MAC world.
