So how secure is your pr0n folder REALLY?

I've been to the point where I would lock myself out of what is now called "New Folder" 😉 but I don't have to worry so much now. Besides, nobody in my family knows what a partition is 😀
 
Yeah... I used to use Magic Folders... I gave up on that rather quickly. I'd rather not have any porn. On my laptop, where I've only got 1 partition (at least at the moment), I just use the security by obscurity method, much like:

you can just keep it all on 1 partition, then use XP's tweakui to hide that partition altogether. Keep the address bar available for easy access.

she may be smarter than you think...a friend of mine was fixing this girl's computer one time. When he gets done, he's poking around, and finds a folder with a bunch of music videos in it. So he calls some other guys in, and they start watching the videos. Until....

from what I gathered, it was VERY hardcore. I wasn't there, thank goodness. I'd imagine they could never look that girl in the eye again.

no one ever uses my computer. I lock it whenever i get up, its a habit ive gotten into, even if im the only one in the house and im just going to pee i always lock my computer.
 
D:\Porn (and D:\XNews\Downloads for stuff I haven't sorted yet).

my account is the only one with read/write privilages on those folders, though.
 
client of mine is just addicted. Ended up archiving the folder with .RAR. Worked fine, but then we wanted to go grab new stuff. Guess it's not my problem when the governement finds out he downloads porn on their dime 😉

I have it setup like this:

D:\Crap I don't wanna see on the desktop\ (Folder has tons of other folders) Shared files\More Shared Files.rar
Rar file has a 9 digit password encrypted file names, then when you open the folder instead of files being named with "porn names" I name them like "Windows 95", "Kazaa Lite 2.11", "Windows 3.11", "Adobe Premiere" etc. with either non exsistant file extentions or of like ZIP extentions giving the impression that they are "corrupt Files". I used to have the rar file buried about 20 folders deep but then I cleaned up my machine and I don't have to bother. I could be more paranoid but agian if anyone encountered it they wouldn't know what to do. I was later thinking of making a folder with about 1000 "fake archives" and only one real one with each archive and it's own 10 or what ever maximum password limit, that would be the best method! Also guys, when you view your p0rn, be sure to use the clear recent files button on the taskbar properties. 😉

Think your dedicated pr0n folders, or even disks are bad? Well, what started out as a proof of concept after a drunken joke bet has produced quite possibly the most robust pr0n solution this side of the Mississippi: a dedicated, 64-bit, fully ECC-guarded, commercial grade UNIX-based pr0n server with production-level security hardening, RAID redundancy and UPS protection, sultan.sunboxes.net. 😕

No bullsh!t. If you care at all about the details:

Yup, it all started after too much Heineken. While splitting a case watching the Pats one Sunday, a buddy was commenting on all the Sun crap I have in my house (I'm a Sun hw/sw support engineer), and the fact that I never follow thru with anything I start. So he bet me (dont even remember what at this point, we were fcking obliterated. A fifth of Grey Goose?) that I couldn't make a dedicated pr0n box in 30 days, even though if I applied myself I could do it in an afternoon with all the stuff I had sitting idle. I called his bluff, and it was on.

Winning was actually very easy: when I migrated my production apps/fileserving from an Sun Ultra 1 workstation to a 1U Netra T1 Model 105 server, I already had a fully configured system with Solaris 9, two Solaris Volume Manager/DiskSuite-mirrored 9gb disks, an extra 100mbit Ethernet card (10mbit onboard) and Samba ready to go. Thanks to the previous config, Samba was even pre-bound to the 100mbit interface so you can telnet/ftp into the 10mbit port "out-of-band" and not affect production I/O performance! 😛 All I had to do was copy some token digi-titty files and rename the box (my girl actually came up with it; my naming convention is non-specific world leader positions like "president", "czar", "caesar", "shogun", etc., and "sultan" was the only one she could think of with a harem 😀) to win the bet. Dude almost died laughing when I demo'd the finished product for him.

And to answer OP's question: the Samba share is mapped to a network drive on my laptop only, though fully accessible on all my other boxes. But screw a password, I live alone, my gf helped name it and laughed along with the whole thing, and anyone who denies the existance of pr0n on their computer at some point or another is full of sh!t anyway. 😛

I can't believe some of the hardcore tactics some of you folks use 😀 Simply renaming "Rosie O'Donnel with Cucumber.mpg" to something like "sys_32.dll" and sticking it into any folder should be more than enough to fool anyone.
