They're done when they're done :D

I don't think a 2 week absense will make that big a difference.
You will know when you see a bunch of people talking about it coming
out next week or something like that.

Even then, I wouldn't hold my breath if I were you ;)

Damn, think about it - 8 years for Valve to develop HL2. That is an insane amount of time.

Well, the time from Doom 2 to Doom 3 is considerably more than that.

Valve hasn't just been developing HL2 in that time - they also did many mods for HL1.

Still, it is taking them forever...

As long as they are both here by October 30th I'll be stoked. Not only is it the day before All Hallows eve, but it is the date of the Orson Wells' War of the Worlds broadcast  I'd like to be getting the shiat scared out of me fighting aliens and monsters on Halloween night.

Valve said, they had started to work on HL2 when HL shipped, so 8 years. They may have done some type of mods, but they were still working on HL2. They weren't developing Doom III for that amount of time. DIII is like 4-5 years.

Just for reference... DOOM II- DOOM III is not a fair comparison as the Quake series was supposed to be the successor to Doom II, and now DOOM III is developed almost like a recap. I agree 4-5 yrs for DOOM III.

-Kevin

Will a 5900XT run Doom III alright.. i kinda want my eye candy turned up pretty high... but resolution around 1024x768 is fine... but definately no lower.

Carmack has said multiple times that it will run on a geforce 256. So i would imagine you could crank up the details to a decent level and still get good performance.

What!?!?! Geforce 256 i think is a bit extreme. I would like to see one of those quotes. I mean that is the first generation T&L... i dont think so. I could see Geforce 2TI MAYBE, but i could definately see it running at min on a Geforce 3. But A geforce 256... only DX7 support dude... no shadows, no Special effects. I think that is exagggerated a bit.

yep, Carmack said that a long time ago... but yes I would imagine that so much of the game would be scaled back that it wouldn't even be fun, and you'd be FORCED to upgrade after having such a miserable time playing such a great game hehe...
I guess he's just proving how flexible the engine can be and that you dont have to have the latest/greatest to partake.

But be sure to pick yourself a 6800 on release week just to be safe

And Carmack says that Doom3 beta testing is going very well :)

Personally, I'm just waiting for them to go gold, that is, to pick a release candidate for distribution. Then it will be about 3 weeks to make it to the B&M stores. Peace.

wow does it really take 3 weeks after going gold and being released to manufacturing for the game to be distributed?

the last game i anticipated the release of nearly as much as Doom3 was Soldier of Fortune 2... that took like 1.5-2 weeks to be on the shelf...

Ive had my Doom3 pre-ordered for many months now from EBGames, and I live in northern Georgia...
I'm going to college way down in south Georgia in August, so hopefully the game will be out by then so I don't go insane having to go to school in the middle of nowhere ;)

That's what I thought, but didn't Half Life ship on October 1998? That's 6 years, unless it's 2006. Maybe I've been out of the loop for a while. :)
