Duke Nukem Forever's release date is actually a breakthrough in marketing technology, as they've managed a system where the game will be released on individual dates for every different person on Earth, corresponding of course to 2 days after that person dies. Half Life 2 is a completely different system, whereby if Gabe Newell comes out of his house and sees his shadow, the game is delayed another 6 months.

Any news? Nah. Just the fact that when they both come out, all other video game companies will simultaneously give up on life, and go bankrupt.

That or they wont seem so good when they do come out, as other games will have caught up.

I think Gabe would see his shadow NO MATTER WHAT. That guy's pretty huge. I would venture to say he would create a solar eclipse upon exiting his house. I guess that means HL2 won't be out ever. They should re-name it to Half Life: Forever.

people are getting crazy, I just hope the game delivers...as for the graphics issues, it seems to me that a game that was supposed to be the "most anticipated title of 2002" (Doom3) can't have breakthrough graphics like we imagine unless they just trash their current progress and start all over, same thing with HL2, the game has been under development for so long, how can the graphics be that revolutionary? So I think that it is safe to say that todays video cards will play the games just fine, maybe not with everything on high at 1600x1200 with AA and AF cranked.

Also, I have seen the videos for both Doom3 and HL2, and while they look good, I don't think either of them will choke your system like Far Cry does. But these are just my opinions, and maybe my hope that I don't have to upgrade my 9800pro.

People who play these games for the graphics are simply noobs. These games are about multiplayer experience. Gameplay (weapon design, moving physics, map design, how damage is calculated, etc) is the issue here. Doom3, like ID's previous games, is totally not farcry where graphics is the focus.

Graphics have always been a focus for ID. When Quake came out, it had the best graphics ever. I was blown away when I saw that game. A few years later, Quake 2 came out and it also looked amazing. In fact, Quake 2 still looks amazing because of how incredibly smooth everything is (look closely at the explosions). Quake 3 and RTCW I don't really know about since I haven't played them much.

Doesnt matter how good or bad they look, ppl play them not for graphic, but for multiplayer experience. Many ppl playing Quake 3 dont use high settings so that they can get better fps and frag more. The guy who recently won a big internationl Q3 LAN tournament, a swede named fooki, uses a rather old machine.

I hope Doom3 is getting released in August because I can't wait to play it, if you have not guessed I am a huge Doom fan! :)

its apparently on its way VERY VERY SOON!!! I am pumped for the release, and I will be ready to guy a NV68GT to celebrate its release!! I have had mine preordered with gamestop for a while now...

according to doom3center.com, it has recently been submitted for ratings, which typically means a game is 99% complete (if anything major was changed, they would have to resubmit it), and Carmack also made a brief statement saying that Beta testing is going extremely well.

good signs! looks like we may be on track for late july.

There was an article on the internet that highlighted the latest release dates for the latest anticipated titles. It was about a month ago so I cannot recall the source.

____________

I think most people understand that gamers do not want to play these games for graphics alone, but graphics are a large part of the gaming experience. I just think that they will not be as groundbreaking because both games have been delayed so many times. I am sure the games will be great though. But I expect games within 6 months to deliver way better graphics, whether as before as someone mentioned when ID developed a game, it would be a graphical benchmark for a while.
