Why don't you just ban porn and alcohol while you are at it?

Both of those in moderation have positive effects. I drink from time to time and I like it. I feel that alcohol does not take away from my life at all. Few addicted smokers will claim that.
It's amazing how willing people are to go stand out in the rain while it's 35 degrees outside, just to puff a cigarette. For enjoyment, rrrrriiiigggghhtttttt. It's amazing how smokers will continue to pay for cigarettes but still complain how they can't afford them. I asked a friend of mine, if whenever they aren't smoking at a moment, and another smoker walks by them who just smoked, if they can smell it, or if they do smell if it smells good to them. Her response? "Yea I can smell it, it smells like sh!t. It's fvcking nasty." It's amazing how smokers are willing to intentionally odorize themselves...

Hitler tried that with the Jews...

And a question to those who smoke: do you think that now you'd be better off never having started smoking in the first place? Don't you regret it?
No, smoking is pleasure/desire related, you feel good otherwise you wouldn't smoke. Thats why it's so hard to kick the habit.

Smoking has nothing to do with good or bad person. Smoking is bad we all know that. Personally i don't think that it should be prohibited. I don't belive in prohibition of drug-substances but i do belive in better education of the health-dangers that are associated with smoking and other drugs.

Do you know for a fact that smoking feels good? 🙂
Is it the taste, or the smoke? I wonder why people don't chew come candy that tastes like tobacco but is harmless (not the anti-smoking nicotine patches)

Im only against smoking in restaurants, and florida voters took care of that for me. Otherwise, I could care less if people smoke. I'm an ex-smoker.

I agree. Sometimes you must save people from their own blatant stupidity or their lack of will power for those that "were hopelessly addicted before they knew about the negative health effects of smoking."

Who is the one that defines better? Banning smoking will not encourage anything. Cigarettes will still be sold and the thrill of smoking overall will increase since it is prohibited. The problem lies within the family household and the upbringing of the child, not the fact that cigarettes are legal.

You can't legislate ethics, morality, or integrity. Even if we wanted to make such a snap decision on such an embedded product, the tobacco industry's death would cause a massive disruption in the market and economy. Countless jobs, trade, etc lost and I doubt special interests, market forces, or politicians receiving money would want that to happen.

At least people know that smoking is bad for your health here. Go to the Far East or Europe... they're puffing away like smoking tobacco is breathing air. It's like that impression of a French guy, "What? You don't like me smoking next to the baby? See now the baby is smoking! Screw you Americans!!!" People in Taiwan and Japan light up right next to small children and in No Smoking areas ALL the time. I had the urge to flick the cigarette out of their mouths and stomp it into the ground...

Dangers of eating a box of potato chips is not nearly as great as dangers of smoking a pack of cigarettes. But there should be a mandatory dieting class in every school to prevent people from eating all that junk.

Mebbe we should, I heard statistics saying over 60% of people can be considered obese (based on % over the BMI) and the average women's dress size is a 12!!!??!!! :Q

it is still interference. Obesity is a serious health issue. Should we outlaw FAT people just cuz some people don't wanna look at them. Smoking kills. We get that. If joe mama wants to puff herself into the grave in her own home, I don't care

Vboy: Frankly, making smoking illegal will only encourage people to smoke illegally. 😉

I don't think so. Smoking just... tastes nasty! Let's say beer was banned. People would try and say, "wow - I love it!" and would keep drinking. With smoking, they would only thank the government for leading them in the right direction.

I agree - I hate standing next to anyone who is smoking...but, I very much doubt you will be able to push the big tobacco companies out of business, so...I think smoking should be banned in ALL public places (bars, restauraunts, parks). Also, No smoking ordinances should be enforced (like the no smoking 15 or 50 or whatever feet infront of public buildings). OK, my little rant is over. It's just really hard for me to breathe in smoky areas, and it makes going out not fun at all...that's all.

smoking should not be illegal, but I don't want a dime of my money going towards health care or any other smoker burdens...
and anyone who smokes should not get a dime from big tobbacco companies. I'll bet most of those people who won suits at one time in their life said they didn't care what smoking did to them in one way or another.

hmmm... i don't want a dime of my money going towards health care for obese people who ate themselves to death, or the alcoholics, or people who contracted AIDS through unsafe sex, or people who got hurt in a car accident that was their fault, etc.
