good.. it's the same idea as cell phones... pre-occupying the driver is bad.

Then we should ban radios, and talking to passangers too.

Not at all Amused. True socialim is a direct democracy on every issue. What we have now a a bastard child where those in power stay in power by re-affirming thier position by passing more laws. Really I don't think they care, just as long as they are doing "something" for whatever consitutent or PAC is on thier agenda today. It's a vicous cycle of more and more laws IMO hell just look at kiplingers "condensed" tax guide this year, it's over 3" thick and is only a fraction of the tax code!!!

And just where is the constitution in all of this?

Maybe we rebel against the USA and start a new country, one founded on beliefs of freedom.

I really can't wait to see what's next to get banned once the anti-smoking popularity has worn off.

There is quite a bit of evidence to support the opposite. Nicotine has one benefit. It gives a 'high' that results in a higher state of awareness and enhances reaction times.

This is what happens with direct democracy. Direct democracy is nothing more than some nice words for mob rule.

:::smacks head:::

True, direct democracy is two wolfs and a sheep voting on what's for dinner. In this case, smoking would be banned because the majority want it banned.

Majority rules ALWAYS ends up in few, if any individual freedoms left.

True, direct democracy is anathema to individual freedom. This is why we have a representitive, constitutional republic, and not a true democracy.

The more we head away from the Constitution, and towards socialism, the more complex our laws will become, and the more individual freedoms we will lose in the name of the "common good."

So explain how the dems are anymore or less "indivdual freedom" mindset when they both wish to take away various individual rights? With Repubs it's the personal/private property and moral issues the left is money. Too me they are in cahoots and bargin with one another every day to take all our rights in thier compromise legislation they feel they must pass. Consititution is'nt worth the paper it's written on with this perpetual cycle.. At least the dems value things like charity so i vote for them.

LOL! Charity? As long as it is other people's money!

Their only 'value' is an underclass that is dependent on them to survive and their continual support of same and stopping anything and everything that promotes self worth or acheivement.

Look at our current goverment and how far we have strayed from the Constitution. The answer is right before your eyes.

That's the reason the Government both Federal and States are making it harder and harder to own a gun. They don't want the citizenry armed.

Don't know if I'll see it in my lifetime but I'm am very sure it is not a matter of will it happen but a matter of when will it happen. I've been predicting it would be the Boston PC Party with all the crapola going on with Internet & Computer laws but it will most likely be a culmination of everything just being the perverbal straw on the Camel's back.

No you've said before and it's true we don't have mob rules/or direct democracy/ We have a place where only 40% vote in even the presidential election, much less the lower you go, and where it takes 200 million to win. Hardly mob rules. What we have is bascially the very rich and very influentual making laws which prohibit us from doing things or make it benficail to elect them at a human cost to others. No we have a small minority degrading what we all hold to be true and rightous. Just choose what side your on because nothing will change w/o another revolution (mob rules).

I am generally against slippery-slope laws for government intrusion and more beaurocracy but smoking has a clear and direct negative health impact on those around you - this is not even debateable, so allowing irresponsible adults to smoke when holed up in a car with small children (note: NOT children old enough to make simple decisions for themselves) equates with negligence. To think a law like this is a step towards banning video games and junk food is just ridiculous.

Smoking is bad for your health.

Talking on your cell phone gives you brain cancer.

Drugs support terrorism.

Who needs smoke-free air when you're so smothered by nanny laws that you can't breath anyway. This is just the type of thing that will keep me from ever living in the Nanny States of America again.

And we also have a large group that does not pay taxes that votes to pick the pockets of others. This is why our reps in dc spend money like a drunken sailer.

I agree that both are dismantling our freedoms, but I really must question your opinion of the dems. Charity is not forcing other people to give up their money under threat of imprisonment to support failed socialist programs.

No, you have that mistaken impression because the dems support the illusion and unattainable goal of "social fairness." Which is also anathema to individual freedom.
