Smoking in your car may be illegal in Georgia soon.

The Bill introduced today applies if you are found to have a child in a car seat.

Kids have the right to breath smoke free air over the right og the adult to smoke in the confines of the car while the child is in the car.
Scheduled to be a Misdemeanor with a Fine.

To be honest, I'm wondering why this legislation hasn't been introduced sooner. It has to be very damaging for a small child to be breathing cigarette fumes inside a closed car. Definitely a step in the right direction.

I'm normally against more laws and bigger Government but this is like a Sin Tax on the dumb adults while trying to protect the inocent children that can't protect themselves from the clueless adults.

LOL!

You idiots do not think your beloved video games are not the next thing they outlaw? There is AT LEAST as much harm done by our acceptance of violence in television and video games as done by a few cigarettes.

I'm tempted to agree with you, and if this were a blanket public smoking ban (or a ban on smoking in the home) I would agree. On the other hand, a car has a porr ventillation system. Then again, my mother and her siblings managed to survive even though my grandfather smokes like a chimbney, same with several friends I have whose parents smoke. While this instance may not be all that bad, I dislike the precident that it's setting.

Hah. This is a funny law. Waste of taxpayer time and money.

While I'm generally against smoking in public places this is just plain stupid. How are they going to enforce this? It'll get struck down so fast it's really irrelevant anyways.

What they should really do is concentrate on getting emissions cleaned up because the stuff you suck-in when stuck in traffic is probably much worse than any second hand smoke you occasionally get.

I don't smoke, and I agree with the concept and concern this law would deal with.

BUT, at the same time, I'm very much concerned with laws such as this being passed. As mentioned above, today it is this, tomorrow it may be fining parents whom allow minors to view PG-13 movies or play PC/video games with violent content. Where will/would it stop? What about parnets whom allow minors to eat fast food? What about minors whom are caught drinking or smoking themselves? Will these violations soon carry penalties for the parents as well?

Very questionable IMHO. Talk about taking away the rights of our citizens!

This is beyond ridiculous.

As we go down the road to the complete nanny-state... please leave your freedoms at the door.

Building codes are not such a bad thing.

Carb, don't you see this is a direct result of socialist policy? When the government (the people as a whole) have to pay for everything, they get to tell you how to live. You become subject to every little knee-jerk reaction the activists have.

You grow up, and trade in your parents for government, i.e., "Big Mother."

I'd like to know how they're planning on enforcing this. You'd have to be driving parallel to another car and looking directly at the driver to notice and even so, the person can dip it below the window so it can't be seen.

It's a nice idea, but I'm afraid it won't have any impact. If a person is stupid enough to smoke in the car with a infant/toddler, I'm willing to bet they're stubborn enough to break a law, when it's nearly impossible to get caught.

It'd be like a state law that bans downloading copyrighted music.

They are when the sole purpose is to provide union jobs and exclude competition. In most large counties that is how codes are used.
