Damn you, we can't have one f'in thread without someone saying "my homemade shit is better than any retailer shit!".
Then I have successfully defended the honor of this forum. :ninja:

You're also the guy we don't call because we're hungry for burgers and you want to eat some foo-foo Asian noodle crap.
The hell man? We hang out while I grill them up, drink good beer, talk shit, and save money at the same time. Eating at burger joints is generic by comparison.

I love a good grease burger. But for health reasons i would recommend you avoid the fries at Five Guys.

found the article:

Worst Regular Order of Fries
Five Guys Fries (large)
1,464 calories
71 g fat (14 g saturated)
213 mg sodium

Unfortunately, Five Guys doesn’t offer anything but fries in the side department. Your safest bet, of course, is to skip the fries altogether (you’d be better off adding a second patty to your burger), but if you can’t bring yourself to eat a burger sans fries, then split a regular order. That will still add 310 calories to your meal, but it beats surrendering more than 75% of your day’s calories to a greasy paper bag.

No one says you have to eat all of them, they also have a smaller side of fries now...

you guys should try Stacked. You can custom build your own burgers on an IPad and they actually use good meat.

Anything done on an iPad makes it 1000x better.

My thoughts on Smashburger and Five Guys (I felt like doing bullet points :p)...

  • Five Guys has better burgers.
  • Smashburger has better fries (barely).
  • Smashburger offers chicken sandwiches (far less calories).
  • Smashburger is fast food, but it uses restaurant-style drink cups. o_O
  • Smashburger has some interesting styles for burgers (I prefer normal though) and different bun styles.
No one says you have to eat all of them, they also have a smaller side of fries now...

The real response to that is... who the hell orders a large for one person? o_O The regular is only about 600 calories, which depending on your other meals, it can be quite a bit, but it's still a hell of a lot better than 1400.

Also, their small size is overpriced. It's $2.29 here vs. $2.79 for the regular, but it's about half the size.

I wouldn't go to a McDonald's'ish place to get a tasty burger.

I do like 5 Guys, but you have to eat there because if you take it with you it's a mess. Same goes for Steak N Shake.

I've had Fatburger a few times and did enjoy it and Red Robin isn't bad either. Ruby Tuesday also has decent but pricey burgers.
