SmashBurger sucks

I have a couple friends who love the place, so I've tried it a few times now. I still don't get it. The fries taste like bland wood chips. The beef on the burger is not particularly flavorful or juicy, and it's overshadowed anyway by a monstrous, over-seasoned (and burnt) bun with sloppy, low-quality toppings/condiments gushing out of all sides of it. And this garbage ain't cheap: today, a burger, fries, and a small Coke cost me $11.37.

Why is this place doing so well? I find it just barely edible, and never finish it. I won't be back...

I like 5 guys and elevation burger. Never tried smashBurger as I don't know what they are trying to do different.

Edit: just looked through their website and the only thing they seem to do different is "smash" their burger with angus beef. They also offer chicken burgers.... Still don't see enough difference here to entice me away from 5 guys or elevation burger.

I went there a few weeks ago because there was a promotion of buy one get one free. The chicken sandwiches were ok, not great, but not bad.

I would not pay the full sticker price ($7.59 each after sale tax) though.

$11? Where are you? Cali? In Denver all that cost me ~$7. I agree that they are garbage though. Must be an acquired taste.

Hmm, a few opened up here, and I actually did like it. It's better than 5 guys, but not better than in&out. And, it wasn't terribly expensive either.

I think those kind of places are really more of a upper tier to McDonalds.

Tier 1. SmashBurgers 11.37
Tier 2. McDonalds 6.50 burger meal
Tier 3. ???

They probably do well because people want something a step up from MCD for 4-5 bucks more.

My coworker who sites next to me rips me for liking Smash Burger. But i only get a smash burger no chicken. My coworker only got the chicken sandwich twice. I love the fries at smash burger.

But they are overpriced like in California. Therefore after the first time i only go there when they send me coupons.

I love Five Guys Burgers, but gosh golly, their burgers are greasy. o_O I limit myself to eating there once every few months.

I love a good grease burger. But for health reasons i would recommend you avoid the fries at Five Guys.

found the article:

Worst Regular Order of Fries
Five Guys Fries (large)
1,464 calories
71 g fat (14 g saturated)
213 mg sodium

Unfortunately, Five Guys doesn’t offer anything but fries in the side department. Your safest bet, of course, is to skip the fries altogether (you’d be better off adding a second patty to your burger), but if you can’t bring yourself to eat a burger sans fries, then split a regular order. That will still add 310 calories to your meal, but it beats surrendering more than 75% of your day’s calories to a greasy paper bag.

Think of how bad the beef has to be for the burgers to be that greasy when they're cooked well done. The allure of Five Guys is truly puzzling, not only is it garbage, but it's garbage with delusions of grandeur.

Smashmouth is the new 5 Guys, meaning it's t3h sUxs. Expensive junk burgers is the new trend it seems.

Ahhh, I remember back in 2001 when I 1st had Fat Burger, that was my 1st experience with a stupidly overpriced burger that wasn't even good. To my surprise Fat Burger's still going strong. I can't help but think if places like these charged normal prices they would go out of business. It's almost like people know it sucks but go because it's pricey.

Which makes no sense, but I can't figure out another way to explain it. For what OP paid I could get a 4x4, 2 order of fries and a milk shake at In N Out and still have money left to spare.

Is there something I should know? :p

It's all greasy to me, and I end up telling myself I won't eat there for another year. LOL

I had Five Guys last weekend and it was delicious. Better than I remembered actually. I just wish they had waffle fries, or something other than regular fries. I don't really like regular fries very much.

You should've ordered 2 double double with grilled onions, fries and Dr. Pepper at In N Out.

They're OK. Definitely better than the "technically beef" burgers you get at McDonald's and many other fast food chains.

I ate there once and all I remember is that the sandwiches were super greasy (dripping) but not very flavorful

We have one, I've been there a couple times over a few years.

Hardly enough seating at their location here, and people literally stand around looking to pounce on the first spot that opens up. Mediocre burgers. Okay fries.

I prefer 5guys by FAR.

Cool, we haven't had a burger thread in a couple of weeks. I'm a Five Guys and Fuddruckers fan. After those two, the bacon cheeseburger in just about any Irish pub in the U.S. Northeast.

I agree. I would much rather grab a bowl of pad thai or something. Anything that I would not typically make at home. Having a kitchen aid stand mixer with the grinder, I blend and make burgers those places cannot touch. And yes bitches, I just played the ATOT make your own card. :awe:

For the money, if I want a grease bomb it's hard to beat the $4.99 Steak 'n Shake coupons in the newspaper every other week that get you a double steakburger w/ cheese, fries and a shake.
