Thinking of buying one since I don't own a watch at all. Might actually want to wear it this way. I have a nexus 6 and was thinking of getting the huweii or 2nd gen moto 360, even though it looks like a flat tire still.

Do you think the extra money is worth it for the huweii?
 
What do you need 1 for?
All I wanted was phone call notification since I don't want to disturb others nearby. The Pebble watch is great for that and the battery easily lasts over a week and waterproof

I love my Pebble and it does pretty much anything I need from a Smart Watch. The Pebble announced yesterday is actually fairly stylish as well, but won't be available for a couple of months.

Seems like the newer 360 is the way to go between the two you have listed. I don't think I would drop decent money on a Wear watch right now though. It seems like the true "next generation" of Wear watches will be much more capable and probably aren't too far away.

I think they will always have a different watch every year anyway. Just for the android wear, apps, and notifications, navigation too sometimes in the car.

Seems like for $300 the Moto 360 would be hard to beat. The Huawei looks better cosmetically but is somewhat more expensive. They are both a little chunky for my tastes but that might just be me. I guess it comes down to how much the flat tire look bothers you. I used a Moto 360 (first generation) for a day and it really didn't bother me at all. Overall I liked the watch quite a bit (not enough to get me to switch) and imagine the newer model is quite a bit nicer.

I love my Moto 360, it is the first watch I've actually worn consistently. However, with that said, I got the leather band and it looks kind of... childish. However, the new 360's look much much nicer /w the band and coloring of the watch face trim itself. I love my 360 besides the styling. The "flat tire" look doesn't bother me nor do I even really notice it.

I've also looked at the Huawei watch... and I don't know but if it is only a $50 difference, I might go /w the Huawei. Anything more, and I don't think it will be worth the price difference.
 
Yea I agree. The bottom bezel on the 360 is still there on the 2nd gen moto 360. The resolution is a bit less than the huweii.

Only reason I stated those two is because I would be paying the same amount regardless the watch I get. I want either the metal strap band or the mesh metal band if I go with the huweii.

A customizable moto 360 is out of stock with metal bands now but the price is about the same.
 
I was in the same boat as you and ordered the new moto360. I am a watch guy, I own 10 or so, and feel the new moto 360 is a real looker in the jewelry sense. my watch is supposed to be here within the next 5 days so I'll find out how much I love it. Only thing I don't like is no NFC from the specs.

Yea let me know what you think of it. I feel the huweii looks more like a modern watch. I just don't like how they kept the bottom bezel on the new 360. They also say the standby resolution is low on it too. I won't be getting the leather strap models either so $379 vs $399 is pretty much the same to me.

I don't like the leather or metal bands for the watch so I have a rubber strap with a clasp here ready to be put on the moto 360. i'll take pics as well.
 
I like how the Gear S2 looks. I own a Gear 2 and love it but want something that "looks" like a watch instead of a stupid square.
 
I'd just hang on, Android Wear devices have the shelf life of a head of cabbage, in 6 months, you'll be able to pick one of your choices up for 50% off used or on sale.

The gear s2 looks nice but it runs Tiazen which is another simplistic OS that connects to android. It is also not full compatible with all android phones, but fully compatible with the Samsung phones.

I thought that's not true for the S2. It's supposed to work on everything above 4.4

It isn't worth bookmarking, the kind of person that would say such a thing has learned their lesson LONG ago that Apple doesn't really invent that much. What we will hear instead is:

"Apple is the first company to implement a round smartwatch correctly" (with tons of references to the 360's flat tire as if EVERY Android smartwatch has that same issue)

or

"Apple is the first company to popularize the round smartwatch" (justified in their minds by the fact that no Android Wear watch has sold significant numbers in their opinion, just like those who say the same thing about large screen phones)


My big hope is that Apple goes round generation two, so all those people who overpaid for gold (or metal IMHO) first gen Apple watches FLIP OUT about how badly they got screwed. It would be a fun couple of months to see all the bitching from the same group of people who swear the only point of updates is to make their phone run slower. Just a SoC update or something wouldn't make a splash, but a second gen watch that looks more like a real watch is something even the least technical user on the planet can understand the benefit of. I would actually go on Facebook again if that happened just to read the fallout.

That would be interesting to see. Isn't the pressure touch on the 6s the same thing as a long press on Android?

Either way what's different with the moto 360 warranty that the huweii doesn't offer? I have dealt with moto support before when they sent me the wrong nexus 6 and it was dreadful.


I think this review helped me out a lot. I may go with the huweii, not sure yet though.

This. First smartwatch I've seen that I would actually wear. I hope Samsung is smart enough to price it competitively. From what I've read and seen so far, this looks to be the most promising device of its kind. To my eye, far more attractive than either Motorola or Apple's offerings.

It's a little OT... but no, it's not. Because it's measuring force, and not time, you can press for the same amount of time, but the deeper into the device you press, the more actions that are revealed. To my understanding, press a little, it's a tap. A little harder, you can get a context menu (like the long press in Android). Harder yet, you "peek" at the content (this may exist when there isn't a context menu, I don't have a 6s), and finally the POP, you press harder through the peek, and the app, or message, or whatever pops open.

A good example is going through your email inbox, you peek at the messages to get more info, and from there you can delete them while still peeking, or press harder to pop the email open. /OT

On the Apple Watch, ForceTouch (same basic tech, slightly different interactions at this time), you press into the watch to get at background things, like changing faces, pausing workouts, clearing notifications, etc.

I too like how it looks but will they have a metal strap or different base styles? I'm not too sold on their os though that's the only thing.

Warranty is always a YMMV thing honestly. It probably shouldn't be a consideration now that I rethink it.

The Huawei watch has a better screen and a smaller face, in trade for more thickness. The 360 has a light sensor in trade for a flat tire. It is all up to whatever you value.
