I'm extremely anti-LG and since you used the term apps instead of applications, I'll take your suggestions with a grain of salt.:thumbsdown:I agree in principle with zi0n., there is absolutely no reason to be spending that much money on an AMD build at this point. A Sandy Bridge system will about the same and be much faster.
Let's go through your build component by component:
- Case: fine
- Mobo/CPU: See above. Get the i5 2500K + GA-P67A-UD3 combo for $335 (cheaper than the i5 2500 with combo discount)
- PSU: Waaay overkill for a non-overclocking single-GPU system. Get the Neo Eco 520C instead.
- RAM: This G.Skill DDR3 1333 is $70 and lower voltage.
- GPU: Use your current one if possible, otherwise we will need to revisit the mobo. Discussing "eventual" GPUs is silly because the market changes so quickly. That being said, your 6950 1GB choice is not so hot considering that you can get an unlockable 2GB version for $10 more.
- HDD: Get the F3
- BD-R: This LG is cheaper and still comes with the media
Finally, ruling out an SSD is silly, especially given the workload that you've defined. Even a $125 60GB Corsair Force 120 for OS and apps will make a world of difference.

It's not about being a fanboy or whatever you want to call it, it's about whats better for the money right now. Here's your suggested CPU vs a 2500k, http://www.anandtech.com/bench/Product/146?vs=288. All your A/B decisions are not even worth it. You're just spending money where you don't need it. I'll laugh with your 1k+ build with no SSD and a dead socket.I'm not an Intel fanboy thanks. Dead socket? Do go on since I already received the motherboard as a birthday present and zero chance for returns.
Part-by-part would just mean the same parts would be lower priced by the time I buy them. Thankfully you didn't make a snide comment about the Blu-ray disc burner.
Please stick with the A/B decisions since I'm still attempting to choose between the two. Everything else is absolutely final with no suggestions welcome.

What other posters have said is true. SB does have a very good price/performance compared to current AMD offerings. There is no need to be rude to them as they have their opinion and took the trouble to actually think of other alternatives. Maybe in the next 2 months you could see AMD being at the top but as of now, SB is still at the top. PS : Not an Intel fanboy.

Since you have that motherboard as a present and there is no possibility of returning it I suggest that you go for cheaper AMD processor like the Phenom II X4 955 while waiting for the release of Bulldozer in the next 2 months. Your motherboard does support Bulldozer with a BIOS update.
http://event.asus.com/2011/mb/AM3_PLUS_Ready/
When Bulldozer comes out you can swap out that processor for a Bulldozer and most probably have better performance than SB.
I would just get a Sempron 140 and unlock it. No sense in spending $100+ on a CPU if you are going to get a Bulldozer.
Well that is just an example of what OP should get. Preferably if OP does not get anything and wait 2 more months or get the cheapest processor possible as it is only a temporary CPU to keep the seat warm for Bulldozer.
I thought the Bulldozer compatible sockets were black??
Your current motherboard is socket AM3, AM3+ is what bulldozer will be, there will be NO NEW CPU's released for your motherboard, NONE!!!! That is why AM3 is a "dead" socket. Not to mention the current 1155 motherboard from intel kicks AMD's ass quite handily (for not much more) An sorry to be the one to tell you mate, but more cores does NOT mean more power and better performance. Step back and stop making excuses, G.Skill makes some of the best damn RAM on the market, LG is a reliable company, and no one is suggesting "Ricer crap".
SSD's are not over priced, they are not making a HUGE profit off of them (they do need to make SOME money though) If you haven't used one don't say you don't need one. You only really need a 60-120GB to load the OS and the main applications you use.
Also the IGP (integrated graphics processor) on the Sandy bridge CPU's is the most advanced and best IGP to date and is about equal to mid-range discreet graphics cards. You say you are no "fanboi" well then why no Intel? It is the ONLY option (besides waiting for BD) that makes sense.
Isn't the Force F120 120GB, and the F60 60GB?

OK, so listen man. This isn't our first rodeo. We know what we are talking about. So when you BS we know instantly you don't know what you're talking about. If you want to spend your money, spend your money. BSing isn't going to get us to think your build is "the shit" or "da bomb". While I know our approval for your build isn't necessary, you came in here asking us what we thought. You are likely disappointed, I know, but it's cold hard benchmarks that prove your words wrong. So the best thing you can do is listen to our advice, take it to heart and make a decision. We are here to help, but do not be that guy who comes in here asking for what he doesn't want to hear. The simple fact is, in this forum we like to trim the fat and get you the best machine possible for your money. We are telling you now (in brutal honesty) that there are parts of your build that are out of balance, and a waste of money. You can take that in, and get a better system out of this, or you can be stubborn and stick with the somewhat poor design.
