Quote from NissanUSA
Nissan GT-R is a go for U.S.
The dream of every red-blooded automotive enthusiast is coming true. On April 12, Nissan Motor Co., Ltd. President and CEO Carlos Ghosn gave the wake up call; the Nissan GT-R is go. The production version will make its world debut at the 2007 Tokyo Motor Show. It will go on sale in Japan in Fall 2007. U.S. and Canada will follow in Spring 2008.[/L]
If he has one he somehow imported it.

I maintain, they are not available in the US at the car dealerships. The first time it will ever Retail in the US is in 2007.

Carlos Ghosn broke the news at the New York auto show on Wednesday, April 12th, 2006 that the next GT-R will be sold under the Nissan badge in the United States.

Right now the skyline is sold under the infiniti badge. In case you didn't notice in that pic, that's really an infiniti g35. The g35 is just a rebadged skyline, although a few people have the nissan badges on them instead.
Nissan never produced a Skyline GT-R to comply with the United States
standards.

So while they may look the same there are some fundamental differences.

Sort of. Nissan in Japan released the G35 as a skyline. Previous to that version, all the skylines have been exotic supercars with generally sedan-like styling but impressive technical features. The G35 was obviously way different than previous skylines, but Nissan wanted to cash-in on the name. The new GT-R destroys any G35 in technical features but has the edgier look Nissan is moving toward. I'm glad they didn't decide to continue tarnishing the name with an inferior car.
It's like the little 4-banger mustangs Ford kicks out. Yeah, there is a respectable version of that car, but Ford sacrificed itself to capitalize on a market. The only reason those cars get respect is because of their heritage. If they started making the wannabe cars from the beginning, mustangs would be laughed at.
