Well, if you want half the performance for very near the same price, more power to you. The only place I see a logical place for gaming on an APU is a SFF or steambox type desktop or in mobile. And mobile APU gaming is even worse than on the desktop.

PCper date of the Review = August 5th 2015

AMD Catalyst 14.12 o_O
DDR-3 1600MHz o_O
DDR-4 2133MHz

http://www.pcper.com/files/imagecache/article_max_width/review/2015-08-04/igp-bioshock.png

And Core i3 6300 with DDR-3 1866MHz 9-9-9, Win 10 Pro 64bit

Bioshock Infinity 1080p Low
min = 12,67
avg = 25,35fps

And now A10-7850K with DDR-3 2133MHz and Catalyst 14.12

And Core i3 6300 with DDR-3 1866MHz 9-9-9, Win 10 Pro 64bit

Metro Last Light Redux 1080p Low

And all that with AMDs one year old drivers.
You do realize these are not coming from the same site, which means you have no idea where the benchmarks took place. You cannot compare them side by side. Even the non OC results did not match the ones that included Skylake results.

Not everyone wants a dedicated GPU!
As long as you keep expectations in check, that's perfectly fine (eg I play GW2 on a Core i5 3317U and it plays just fine). If you're expecting 1080p on Star Wars, you'll be quite disappointed.

Exactly. These arguments about gaming on a desktop igpu just want to make my head explode. Just add a freaking dgpu. It is so obvious.
I game on an A6 6400K desktop a fair amount of time. It is remarkably good at running games @ 720p. You can't buy a video card worth a crap for the $60 it cost (plus, Micro Center threw in a free motherboard on top of it).

AMD APU is proven to be better at gaming, yes?
Only with IGP. Not with discrete cards.
This is critical, as you said you might grab a card later.

Right now, the AMD APU is ahead by a hair. 10-20% tops.

The i3, however, is about 90% faster in single-threaded performance so office and web apps will run MUCH smoother. Add in a video card (even used on the cheap) and the i3 pulls far ahead.

If you're buying either one brand-spanking-new, it also just makes sense to get brand new technology, not something over a year old and already outdated.

Really? Most office apps run smoothly on Core 2s and Stars chips. Kaveri won't have problems with those.

And it's not like an a8-7600 (or any other Kaveri) is some junky Jaguar dual-core (which does struggle with some Flash-heavy web pages). What web apps are seriously going to slow down on a Kaveri? They aren't sluggish on my chip, even when I peg it at 3.4 GHz.

I'm thinking more of those web-based flash/facebook type games. Some of them actually get pretty demanding and can run sluggishly. Many of these are single-threaded and simple, but benefit greatly from that single-threaded performance boost. Just as one example, anyway.

I was not directly comparing the results but the fact the PCper review used 1600MHz DDR-3 for the Haswell/Kaveri and DDR-4 2133MHz for the Skylake.

If you compare my results of the Core i3 4330 Haswell vs the Kaveri A10-7850K you will see the performance delta is way higher than what the PCper review have simple because of the memory.

Also, compare my results of Haswell/Kaveri vs Core i3 6300 Skylake. The performance delta between Kaveri and Skylake is higher in favor of the Kaveri. Using DDR-4 2133MHz on Skylake would give it another 5-10% over the results i got with DDR-3 1866MHz.

So even with DDR-4 2133MHz Skylake Core i3 6300 is slower than A8-7600 Kaveri in iGPU performance and more than 50% more expensive.

Even in Cinebench there is not 90% performance difference in Single thread.

Cinebench R15 Single thread

Core i3 6100 = 156
A10-7850K = 104
FX8350 = 98
FX6300 = 94

How did you get the 7850K to score 104. It scores between 90 and 92 on review sites. (92 on Anandtech http://anandtech.com/bench/CPU/1028)

Because Anandtech used the ASROCK motherboards that had performance issues with early BIOS.
And everyone else?

A 7870K on Anandtech scores 94.

Where did you get that 104 score from?

Ok my bad you are right.

1,04 is the Single Thread performance in Cinebench 11.5

Cinebench R15 Single Thread performance is 94

But even with 94, Skylake Core i3 6100 single thread performance in Cinebench R15 is 65% faster not 90%.

I have read myself that you have to use the right ram with an APU. 2133 seems the best

PovRay. lol. Try google octane. That is a benchmark that simulates something that every computer user actually does with their computer. The i3 scores almost a clean double vs a AMD A10.

If you want web browsing lets make it better, PC Mark 8 Creative.
Click the links for the entire PC Mark 8 Creative results.

Benchmark Web Browsing - JunglePin

Core i3 6300 = 0.30759 secs

A10-7850K = 0.33619 secs

Benchmark Web Browsing - Amazonia

Core i3 6300 = 0.13318 secs

A10-7850K = 0.13248 secs

You really need tests that last more than 1 sec...

Also, is there a reason that we are ignoring that the i3 scores 14% higher in the overall test with what looks like an almost identical system?

That is exactly my point, browsing is not taking more than a second. No matter how fast one CPU is, you really dont need that much more speed for Browsing now days.

Well actually the Core i3 6300 was tested on Win 10 64bit on a newer PC Mark 8 version 2.5.419.
The A10-7850K score is on Win 8.1 with Catalyst 14.12 and older PC Mark version 2.3.293.

So i wouldn't compare directly the total results.

So... The Core i3 is literally at par on the AMD solution on GPU, but once AMD use Mantle or DX12, they have advantage again....

NVIDIA must be careful... Their 750 won't last one generation more. Intel iGPU is dangerously powerful to ditch the low tier in the next gen, considerig if they don't use HBM on them.

And better to AMD to heavily revamp their iGPU who is weak as hell now... And if Bristol Ridge is not that powerful as expecting... AMD is dead.
