Uh, the last time I checked... It was called overclocking. Which the i3 can't do in a meaningful way.

...

Notice how the same CPU goes from 92 to 121 frames per second. It's Magic.
With the i3 -- you are stuck at stock clock for better or worse. Fiddling with bus speeds only does so much.

I don't buy locked chips.

1. That is not a choice for the AMD APUs, it is a necessity so that you can run threads at at least celeron speeds.
According to your own tests even the A10-7850 @ 4,35 is barely any faster than the g1820 when it comes to running a thread!

Yeah you "can" O/C a A10 up to celeron speeds and the FX you can get up to ~5Ghz (if you have a 220W motherboard) making it on par with a dual core.

Great argument!

If using an i3-6100, What graphics card would be best suited with this CPU that would run most modern games (Just Cause 3) but also is cheap and quiet?

Depends on your monitor's resolution and what price bracket you consider "cheap".

Just checked multiple local i3-6100 reviews.
Ocing base clock on Z mobo yield 2-3% higher clocks. Performance improvement is around the margin of error.

On the other hand. I successfully overclocked 3.2GHz fx8300 by more than 30% on cheap 760g msi motherboard. Only thing required was $20 Deepcool s40 CPU cooler.

Never say impossible, people were surprised when I OC'd my non-K i5 3550 to 3.9-4.1GHz where the 3.7 turbo is the limit, and that's without touching the BCLK (still at 100). And undervolting it in the process.

So far, an i3-6100 in my ASRock Z170 Extreme 4 does not respond to changes to the BCLK value in the BIOS. On the contrary, anything but "Auto" or "100.00" will result in a slight drop in observed frequency.

Seams your blue glasses are out of focus,

We are not talking about all the boards, we are talking specifically about that particular $240 SuperMicro board that a single guy have managed to OC the Core i3 and he doesnt even say how he did it. And then ShintaiDK calls us desperate and you are talking about goalposts when the original context was about "extremely limited" and "extra cost" ?? o_O

Here's what YOU were talking about...

1. Overclock the CPU, unfortunately you cannot with the Core i3.

ADF fail.

Seriously thinking of getting an i3 now guys

I think investing in a good Skylake motherboard + an i3 is generally a good move. You get really good performance today, a very nice platform that should support a move to either higher-performance Skylake chips and/or Kaby Lake processors down the line, as your budget permits.

That being said, if you are budget constrained, I'd only recommend upgrading from what you currently have if you really want/need the added performance. If what you have works well enough, then it may be wiser to ride it while steadily putting away money for a future upgrade.

Then, when the system you have is no longer adequate for your needs, you can upgrade to something even more substantial down the line.

It's pretty old, worth about $40 I would think. Not what you want to include in a new build.

Mate has offered me a GPU Card. Will let you know spec

Teabaghead, I think you should start a thread in the General Hardware forum asking for help with a build. You'll find a lot of people eager to help you put together the best system for your $ there!

Not good. Don't waste your time with that OLD card. Seriously consider looking for a used card here in the FS/FT area. You'll get best bang that way.

Well, it's not horrible. It's about the minimum spec card that I would consider for "modern" gaming, and it probably won't really handle GTA V or W3. But it would be fine for Starcraft II or D3. (I know a friend playing D3 with it, and it seems to run fine, on a Q9400 rig.)

Post budget. There are tons and tons of cards better than that one. The question is how much are you willing to spend. You will get faster and faster cards for every additional $ you spend, buying used will get you even more for the same $.

Anyone who actually believes that an FX overclocked to 5 Ghz stutters as bad a dual core anything on modern multithreaded games......

Back to the OP. On the plus side for the A10 -- when you connect a heatsink and cooling fan to it.... at least it doesn't look like an iPhone 6 Plus after you sit on it.
