Wow, that population display code is damning if true. No wonder I constantly had to jump back to the details screen to figure out what was going on.

So it's really Sim-dumb-as-a-rock-traffic-sewage-power-agent-City.

Well said! An incredibly crappy product. I am very disappointed. So much for pre-ordering a guaranteed 'winner'.

Depending on what the free game choice looks like on the 18th, I may refund the game from Amazon.

Nice, so unless they re-write all of the AI code then the game is broken by design, assuming the code snippet is true. ...and if they do plan on doing that to fix this game, then this game is pretty much in alpha.

Or they could do what they do with trade vehicles and buildings. They actually seem like they work in terms of reliability and consistency

There is no such thing as a guaranteed winner and anyone who went into this expecting as much should reevaluate how they choose games.

I think Simcity is a solid 5-6. It's average and certainly not one of the best releases out there but I've purchased broken games in the past that stayed broken because developers took the money and ran. If this game is so crappy how does that rate against WarZ or Sword of the Stars 2. Those would be games I'd dedicated the lowest ratings for.

The hyperbole in this thread is hitting critical mass.

WarZ and Sword of the Stars 2 are not not in the same neighborhood in terms of hype or production budget, and were not marketed as the next installment of one of the most legendary game franchises ever.

I terms of performance/expectation, it seems this new Simcity is one of the lowest ever.

Im inclined to agree with you as to where the new Simcity sits in regards to its predecessors. It's the all or nothing mentality people have that I am responding to. Hype is a response to advertising. If people become rabid animals because of successful advertising, that has more to say about the gamers than it does the developer. By reacting so heavily to PR, people are setting themselves up for disappointment.

well if us early adopters of the first few days get our free game full value, it will be a wash. there are some games i've been eyeing but haven't pulled the trigger on yet that origin has. and if they fix it up, 2 games for the price of one. otherwise it will be fun to mess around with it sometimes.

I'm so glad Amazon gave me a refund. I may, MAYBE get the game when it goes on sale and all the bugs are fixed.

Did you buy the game digitally or physically from Amazon? I bought the DVD but I'm really tempted to file a refund claim for a broken product. I doubt they will let me return it since it's opened but I'm tempted to try it anyway.

Don't get me wrong, I actually think the game is fun but the fact that cities can succeed with nothing else but residential zones really just seems wrong to me (among other issues).

Can you do that in other Sim City games??

I'd be fine with sims finding a new job/house everyday, but because traffic is actually simulated this time, it breaks the game. Everything just gets congested and at peak hours around 6-8AM its just gridlock, I've had my coal powerplant fail 3 or 4 times because it wouldnt get its coal delivery. And that cascades into water treatment plants and factories failing because of power.

They need fix traffic asap, its just stupid the way it is right now
True - if they'd do the queuing/dibs thing, then that should solve it. Emerge from a factory, find the nearest home, then call dibs. If you fail to reach home due to unacceptable transit time, the dibs goes away. Then....either reroute the nearest residence-seeker to that house, or else the next worker to emerge from a factory will get dibs on it.

They did indeed do funky stuff in SC4 with the way workers sought jobs and residences, but it seemed to work pretty well. There were still some traffic anomalies, such as bus traffic paths that occasionally hopped up onto an elevated highway from a crossroad below - there was no ramp there, so presumably a few buses a month would just hit the hydraulics and launch themselves up two stories and be on their way.

I got it digitally from Amazon and it took a few days for them to remove it from my origin account.

I didn't care about it being EA, always-online, Origin-only, blah blah blah. But now that I'm reading about a lot of the corners they've cut about the simulation, population, traffic, etc., on top of just out-right lying about a lot of the "simulation" being on their cloud servers, this has really left a sour taste in my mouth. I'm still having fun with the game and am still playing it, but I feel like the product was completely misrepresented.

I'm not going to put hours into the game and then cry for a refund, but I've learned a good lesson from this. I only paid $40, after all. If I had waited a week and then thought about buying it though? I honestly don't think I would have.

Shame on EA/Maxis claiming this was simulating every single thing in your city when it's not even close to simulating all the objects in the city let alone being in the ballpark to how they would behave in real life. There's a lot of other stuff broken. Add that on top of them providing such small city plots, it doesn't make any sense whatsoever. Hell, I'm pretty sure I defended the small plots due to the mass amount of simulation they were doing on everything, Maxis employees even said so.

What a mess this has become, it's embarrassing for them at this point.

Thread should be renamed "Sim Shitty 5", the first post should be edited to include comments on all the game's shitty-ness and, finally, it should be stickyed so that any mortal who walks into this sub-forum be warned of EA's eternal shitty-ness.

Aha, I'm so glad I didn't buy this. It all just feels like it was made to run on John Doe's P4 from 2003. Hey, EA wants Mr. Doe's money!

I'm also very glad I didn't buy this game. It looked tempting and been a while since there was a really updated Simcity. I gotta give thanks to MWO, ever since that game I've been super skeptical about buying a new release.

Depending on the free game we're allowed to get from Origin and the discount I was able to get for preordering it I should come out pretty close to paying nothing for SimCity.

The best part of this entire thing is that EA has a 500+ employee department purely for damage control...

They are going around posting about how the game issues "aren't that bad! It's an excellent game! Just be patient and it will all work out, and don't post negative reviews!" Read this thread with a critical eye and it's very easy to spot them.

I've played sim city 4 a good couple of hours, and it is much MUCH closer to sc2000 than the new version.

I want my ~20 hours back of trying to connect to servers and building cities that can't thrive due to game engine issues.

Plus, I had so much naïve faith in maxis (not EA) that I bought the $80 deluxe version just to support the sim city franchise.

Time isn't something you can ever get back so I'm not sure how productive that desire will be. It sucks you got the 80 dollar version, we definitely got mislead by the quality of the 1 hour demo vs. what we got.
