Just tried to log in this weekend and play my cities, traffic fills up instantly from the traffic caused by my Arcology. Guess I won't be playing for another 6 months when the next patch comes out, would be nice if they would just take the game off the market and refund my money.

To be fair my casinos are now making tons of money and they were barely breaking even before. As a side effect traffic is now even worse. To be fair though it could be worse because the casinos are now bring in a ton more people.

Also my arena struggled to break even and I made money a couple nights in a row.

Another negative is that buildings seem to go vacant much easier. I have people leaving their homes due to no money, even though everyone is employed and I have thousands of jobs available.

Same here, my casinos went from loosing about $64k to making $54k in a 80k city. I haven't noticed any traffic increases, in fact it seems to have died down. I even just built a Expo center and ran a few events and no issues. Of course at the center of my city is train/bus/street cars and a park and ride all connected to the highest density street.

The big thing for me too is buildings, especially commercial go vacant non-stop. It was common for 1 or 2, but now 6-7 at a time is going dark.

I agree about the casinos making money and bringing in traffic. My commercial buildings go vacant a lot as well. But for some reason I have tons of fires now bringing down whole rows of industrial buildings down in the same exact spot

In case anybody is interested there's a new update coming out
http://forum.ea.com/eaforum/posts/list/9437292.page#28136320
Hi Mayors – below you'll find the notes that will appear in Update 4.0 tomorrow.

Update 4.0 Notes

• New: SimCity Launch Park, an exclusive new park just for our dedicated fans who were early adopters.
• New: Region: Edgewater Bay. Seven city sites in one cluster around a beautiful bay with one great work site.
• New: Your current server will now be shown in the options menu.
• New: More detailed rollover information on buildings telling player’s if their Sims received happiness from a park or from shopping. Previous to this fix, this information was generic.
• Re-Enabled Feature: Global Market prices now dynamically change during gameplay.
• Re-Enabled Feature: Leaderboards are will be active on EU West 3, Pacific 1 and Pacific 2 at the release. We will enable them on additional servers throughout the day.
• Re-Enabled Feature: Region filters are now enabled on all SimCity servers. Players will be able to search for open games by Map Name, Sandbox Mode, and Abandoned Cities.
• Rain Clouds: Fixed an issue where some cities would not have rain clouds to replenish their water table. If you had a city with this issue, you will start seeing clouds again within a game day.
• Fire: Improved response time of fire trucks to fires. Improved the time it takes for a fire signal to reach a fire station.
• Mission updates: Tuned Metals HQ and Community College missions. These were appearing too early, making them difficult to complete. They now appear later in a city’s development.
• Solar Farm Great Work: Reduced fire risk at the Solar Farm Great work. Local fire engines were spending too much time at the Solar Farm.
• Messaging: Improved pre-requisite messaging for Trade Port, Casinos, Smelting Factory and Oil Refinery. It should be clearer on how to unlock these buildings.
• Graphics: Fix for flickering low wealth buildings on NVIDIA graphics cards.
• Education: Fix for an issue some cities experienced where commuting students did not return from a neighbor’s city. This was causing a problem where students would disappear from a city in some cases.
• Tuning: Sims will lose a small amount of happiness if they don’t have a place to shop. Cities without places to shop will see complaints and feel the effect of unhappy Sims. This will emphasize the importance of commercial zones.

Will have to start up a new region and see if things are better. About time the leaderboards are enabled.

:D You mean your only fans? I doubt there have been too many sales for this game since release.

And this:
• Re-Enabled Feature: Leaderboards are will be active on EU West 3, Pacific 1 and Pacific 2 at the release. We will enable them on additional servers throughout the day.
If that's not a red flag that they still aren't sure how their servers will handle the load...

Once again, it sounds like they will take a minimal approach on this release. Hope it doesn't blow up in their faces again.

Anyone still playing? I haven't heard any news about the new patch. Amazon has it at 39.99, but I'm still not sure it's a good deal yet.

Don't buy it. It's just a flashier facebook game. Might as well play cityville or whatever other "city" building games they have on Facebook.

I built a city that specializes in gambling but my crime rate is low and I barely have homes that are on fire in residential areas because almost all my sims are educated. I have University, high school and grade school and I made sure I have school bus stop in my residential areas, even in my downtown area that has condominiums.

And since my sims are educated they recycle their garbage. I bought a Recycling Depot and made sure I had enough recycling trucks to pick the recyclables from my residential areas. I made a huge profit out of it because it produces plastic and alloy that I exported in my Trade Depot.

As my city grows, I noticed that some of my casinos are losing money. Even if I tried to meet the demands of low, medium and high income. I had to temporarily close the casinos that are losing money until I figure out a away and left the ones that are doing well, open.

With that problem, I had to resort to a different source of income because the rest of my casino could lose some money anytime too. It's always good to have few source of income in your city.

Since my sims recycle and my city produces a lot of alloy and plastic from my recycling depot, I built a Processor Factory and made big profit because I did not have to import plastic and alloy. I set the factory so it accepts local deliveries only. I did not have to constantly meet its demands because it is not my only source of income but my Recycling Depot seems to deliver right away when the demand is high.

I also noticed the factories in my Industrial zone kept closing because it did not have workers but my city is already all zoned and I have 100k educated population. I couldn't figure it out for a while, but then I realized when I played sims 3, when my sims are 15 mins late ( in game time), they are considered to have missed work and if it happens 3 consecutive times, they get fired. Hence, losing workers from factories or work places.

One of the reason I figured why my Sims would get late to work is the traffic! I fixed my roads and made sure there is another route from residential area to industrial besides going the route passing my downtown areas where the heavy traffic is.

Another tip is, when you specializes in Gambling, tourist attractions like the Empire State Building, etc are profitable to have.

Played a couple of hours worth with update 7 and I can say I'm pleased with the fix they've made in regards to traffic and the behavior of service vehicles. When it comes to garbage collection the "conga line" of garbage trucks is no longer a problem as they each now appear to behave independently and will each concentrate on different blocks instead of all going down the same street at once.

Raising and lowering of streets works well too. I like the direction they're going and I've gotten my money's worth so far with the amount of hours played but I still can't shake the feeling that its been basically a paid beta. One thing is for sure, on max settings and zoomed up close the game really is nice to look at.

Yep it sure is!

Anyone still play this game? I do. So far got 230 hours of fun out of it. So well worth it.

Still waiting for larger maps though.

Still no larger maps...... Not surprising. Too busy adding nissan leafs and other gimmicks to get kick backs.

Have they fixed the population issues? Have they fixed the commerce issues between cities within a region?

I cancelled the charge for the game and uninstalled origin. I wonder if they locked out my account like is rumoured.

Wow that Simcity 5 topic has more views

Yeah.... Of course... Because it is rampant with major bugs and problems which EA refuses to fix, they're too busy adding nissan leaf charging stations and other embedded ads to be able to create a playable game.

EA ruined this franchise.
