That was a pretty nice slap - you could almost feel it.

But Smith acted like a poopy head. Totally out of line.

Lets all be real for a second, that slap wasn't meant for Chris.

I feel for Will. Getting emasculated and not having the will(no pun intended) to divorce his hoe wife must be killing him inside. He like that lover boy in high school who thinks he could turn that bird into a proper wife.

This quote:
Whatever the history, Smith’s expletive-laden outburst, in a show broadcast to millions of homes across the world, shows a total lack of control on his part. It is also a complete contrast to the family image he and his wife have carefully curated for years.

I can't imagine working in such a public-facing job that one screw-up (which was understandable, but wrong) would jeopardize your global perception & possibly your future career options overnight. I mean, I do stupid stuff alllll the time. I have ADHD & constantly goof up, forget stuff, stick my foot in my mouth, etc. Fortunately for most of us, we don't go viral overnight from an emotional over-reaction in public. Obviously, violence over words isn't acceptable, but to have decades of hard work curating that positive image about yourself & your family and then to have it tainted by one bad decision...man that's rough!

OTOH, if I worked in Hollywood (a raunchy place) & had $350 million to my name, it seems like a thicker skin is in order (easy to say, as I wasn't in the heat of the moment!). I do appreciate his Instagram apology post, because at least from the public-facing side, we all know he's generally a pretty chill dude with a good heart.

Disappointed in both of those guys.

Chris Rock should spend more time thinking of better material. Going after black women over hair (or lack thereof), to me, is an epic dick move. They don't deserve that, and no one should be teased on primetime over something they have no control over.

Having said that, after having Rickey Gervais host award shows multiple times, I was really thinking people had developed thicker skin. Guess I was wrong. It didn't look good that Will laughed at first, didn't get mad and approach until after Jada rolled her eyes. That kind of undermines the 'I lost my composure to rage' angle. At least he apologized and is showing remorse and contrition, not digging his heels in and proclaiming himself some kind of noble defender and that standing up for his wife trumps all.

I think the hair issue is a particulary touchy one in that household, and not just regarding the allopecia. Jada has gone on record as saying he still harbors bias and resentment against blonde women due to being insulted and teased by some as a child. Will Smith, in an open marriage, has been in a relationship with Margo Robbie since shooting a movie together I think. I wonder if that factors into this all somehow.

This is the second time Will has slapped someone in public. It's not a singular event and it makes you wonder what he may be like behind closed doors if he's hauling off hitting people on public television.

Plus, does everyone think Will really wrote that apology or was it his publicist doing damage control? Hmmm....

To be fair, based on that other video, that looked like sexual assault towards Will Smith.

But yeah, that was 100% a publicist post.

You realize giving kisses on the cheek is a traditional greeting in a lot of European and Latin America countries, right?
Yeah, but that isn't what it looked like to me. I also doubt that is traditional to do in a receiving line with a celebrity you don't know in many of those countries either.

I think he needs a new publicist. Took them way too long to put that out. Should have been out this morning.

I agree, being a celebrity, especially one with a family friendly image would be pretty hard. The flip side is any random person that did that in a random comedy club probably would've left in cuffs and been permanently banned, even if the performer decided later to not press charges.

I'd had to go back and see the footage.

Looks to me like he kissed one cheek and went for the other cheek. Will put his hand around his back initially when the guy came in and it may have given him the impression it was OK. Will pushed him off, said a few words, then decided to backhand him. Didn't have to use the slap since he already pushed him off and said something.

Will went on to say "He tried to kiss me on my mouth, he's lucky I didn't sucker punch him, oh sorry, I said that on camera."

Who knows for sure though. But still, he is on a Red Carpet and decides to do that and then say that. Then this latest incident?

On the flip side of the coin:

Chris Rock has been bagging on the Smiths for a long time now. Sure they're like the goose that laid the golden egg they provide more material every time you turn around. They're a perpetual train wreck.
But I see it is akin to shooting fish in a barrel. Chris Rock ought to up his game.

Chris Rock made a bad joke, not even the worst in terms of bad taste of the night, and Will Smith flew off the handle and committed assault(he forcefully bitched slapped Chris Rock) live on stage. The uncensored clip from the international broadcasts has already hit the web. It was very much real and while Chris Rock joke was in bad taste, Will Smith should suffer some consequences from it. They should not be tolerated by the Academy or Hollywood.

Maybe Will Smith should take lessons from Ted Cruz about defending his wife when insulted by someone else?

Or the other way round?

Next time Ricky Gervaise presents an award ceremony, what's the odds he starts off with looking nervously round the room and declaring that he's 'just checking that Will Smith isn't in the audience'?
