Lets face it, if "something" did not happen and did not happen fast, the entire viewing audience would have tuned out. Ever since they took the funny out of funny, the Oscars look like a RNC convention minus the politics. WHEN did we lose the ability to laugh? And especially at ourselves?
And if you call the three female hosts as funny, that was not comedy.... that was pathetic. What the F Wanda????

I had always heard that Will Smith WAS an ass, and while Hollywood puts on an ACT pretending to LOVE one another being in show business and all, I knew there were some who really despised of others. Apparently, Chris Rock is one of those comedians on many Hollywood elite's shit list. Rock and Smith have probably hated each other for years.

And just look at Denzel Washington and Tyler Perry. Both also known as Hollywood assholes, running to the aid of Will Smith. So obviously, Tyler Perry and Denzel Washington are also not Chris Rock fans. Would be refreshing if these celebrities would just come out and admit they hate this one or dispise that one instead of pretending all is well amongst the community.

I remember when these award shows were funny (Ricky Gervais), and I remember when the white house correspondents dinner was funny.
But then, people stopped laughing. Remember Michelle Wolf? That was one of the most hilarious correspondents dinner's I have seen and yet that was the last correspondents dinner with any funny.
We had Donald Trump who never showed up at all, and Sarah Huckabee Sanders who couldn't take a joke unless it was written in the bible. I mean really.... what a sourpuss look on her face at that dinner.

What is truly terrifying to think about is that we actually had a president and his staff who were so screwed up mentally that comedy or one single joke tossed they're way they couldn't take. And it threw them over the edge. If a president or a Sarah Huckabee Sanders can not laugh at themselves, even a tiny little bit, THEN AMERICA..... we're really in deep trouble. These screwed up fuckers actually take themselves seriously. Holy shit!!!!

And so.... we had tonight with the Oscars, and THIS back in 2018.

Chris Rock made a bad joke, not even the worst in terms of bad taste of the night, and Will Smith flew off the handle and committed assault(he forcefully bitched slapped Chris Rock) live on stage. The uncensored clip from the international broadcasts has already hit the web. It was very much real and while Chris Rock joke was in bad taste, Will Smith should suffer some consequences from it. They should not be tolerated by the Academy or Hollywood.

I dunno. Never liked Chris Rock, he's way too pleased with himself (plus the only material of his I actually remember is...problematic). It's a akin to when Jeremy Clarkson punched Peirs Morgan though. Not a fan of either party - let them get on with it.

There's something quite unnatural about the convention that says celebs have to sit and smile while some official 'court jester' makes bad jokes about them. At least reality breaks through occasionally.

Not an Emmy’s viewer or ever have been.
I did see it of facebook and I don’t know. There has been a long history of comedians roasting the crow of celebrities at the Emmy’s. My thoughts are if you can’t take it then don’t go.
Will Smith was way out of bounds in this setting.

edit: oops Oscars

But is mocking someone for an illness or disability all that different from mocking someone for their race? How would someone directing racist jokes at ethnic minority audience members be received at such an event? Pretty cheap 'comedy', at any rate. Maybe Rock will learn to up his game a bit?

I guess you've never seen the Golden Globes where the host is frequently 10 times harsher than Rock was. Note to all famous people at an awards ceremony sitting right up in the front mc'd by comedians: you might get made fun of by the host at some point. There aren't any armed guards making them be there or stay. Participation in these ego jerkoffs is entirely voluntary.

Then don’t go, as I said it is well established celebrities particularly celebrities that will be honored get roasted for a short time. There is a looooong history of this happening.
Something seems wrong with Will smith since his wife started her pod cast thing and that is a whole different subject.

Don't worry, Rock does that too as well as many many other comedians.

You also assume he knew why she was bald. I had no idea, as I'm sure the vast majority in this thread has no idea, until it all of a sudden became common knowledge about two seconds after this incident.

I didn't watch the show, but after seeing what happened, I really lost some respect for Will Smith.

Was the joke a little too far? Probably. But you just don't physically assault someone just because of a bad joke.
He made fun of his wife.

Been in the news, I am sure Rock knew about it.
*I think* Jada has made some funny-ish comments about it though. Not super sure about that but I sort of remember hearing her say something kind of funny about it somewhere.

Yeah, the Golden Globes folks never seem to run out of energy for finger wagging the week after Ricky Gervais hosts their event, but they also always seem to bring him back every other year or so.

Strange, that.

All the young, divorced and virgins - "I am deeply shocked at such behavior."
All the married guys who saw the look on Jada's face and Will's reaction following the look on Jada's face.
"I get it"

Will smith and his family are soon to be train wrecks. Not fond of his attitude lately, like his shit don't stink. Hes such a liberal POS and so is his family. While Rock was being Rock, I thought the joke was semi-funny. I hope the take that oscar away and ban the smiths.

Really. Why not make a positive? Why not say, “Doesn’t she look beautiful?” That is what I would have said. Fortunately, my wife did not have an affair with a friend of our son and say it live on an interview while I was present.

I may not have gone, but given my need for adulation to receive my justly deserved award, I would have had to./s
