Should we adopt the regulations of Japan for purchasing a gun?

I have several suppressors. The process to obtain a suppressor is onerous as hell, the $205 fee (soon to be removed in 01-01-2026) the ATF paperwork, background check, fingerprinting, and wait times are extreme for an item that doesn't actually contribute to more crime. If an AR or a pistol registration was like that it would really help slow down the number of instant gun buying to go out and commit a crime inho.

I think the friction in obtaining NFA items is part of what makes them rarely used in crimes. (especially the more $ they are). SBRs being a thing while everybody is running "braces" on AR pistols is kinda absurd though. I don't really have an interest in suppressors especially given the additional lead exposure concerns.

California has a 10 day waiting period which seems sufficient. Something I'd like to see is a mandatory state sponsored gun safety training course complete with range live fire that has to be completed (including a test at the end) before you can purchase/own anything at all.

Seems to be the direction WA is headed, it's already a 10 business day waiting period before you can pick up a firearm, and there's a training requirement but due to the current law there's a free online presentation you can go through fairly quickly that fulfills the requirement. They're instituting licensing now and trying to turn the training into an actual training environment.

I am in favor of stricter regulations for obtaining a firearm. Depending on the state though, some are quite strict already. In Wisconsin to buy a pistol you have to have a background check, be of a certain age, and answer and fill out the required forms and we are a less strict state than NY or Cali. The problem is that you can simply lie on the forms (Hunter Biden anyone?) get the gun that same day, and go use it for something. The latest mass shooter gave plenty of warning signs that he was off, yet no one was able to stop the process for him. I tend to agree that stricter and more onerous regulations just make it harder for the law abiding folks over the criminals ability to get a gun. However quite a percentage of recent mass shootings the perp had to obtain the gun legally, and how do you catch a nutjob that can act normally up until the time he doesn't? In so many instances when these things happen even their closest friends say things like "he was the nicest guy, we had no idea he would do this"" etc.

Regardless any steps that can be done to help, such as a 14 day waiting period perhaps, thorough background checks, can only help.

All this shit misses the fact that gun ownership for noone makes it hard to get a gun. It's not an overnight solution BUT IT IS A SOLUTION EVENTUALLY. If it's illegal to possess a gun, there will be less and less guns "out there." Patience is required. And FUCK THE 2ND AMENDMENT. That filthy rag should be stomped into the muddy soil with a twisting boot.

Are you forgetting the 300 million guns or so currently in circulation that can be bought or sold or stolen? Those guns will never be taken away from anyone, don't think they will or can be lol. Americans will never allow guns to be banned, look for other solutions like mental health or social media or making parents actually parent as those are more likely.

The US will never, ever, ever, never ban guns, and existing owners will never be criminals for keeping their existing ones. I'm not saying that because I wish it to be so, I'm saying that because that is just the reality of the situation. If you can't wrap your head around that, and you think that eventually they will all be collected and destroyed and the US will be gun less, keep on keeping on I guess. If you think otherwise good luck with that, you need to focus on solutions that may actually help.
