My roommate collects $600 from his friends and they vacuumed the room and sprayed cologne to disguise the smell.

I truthfully wouldn't care if we were in an off-campus house, but we're in the dorms (in a substance-free hall) and the school's police department comes around once a week with a canine unit (trust me on this - I saw them doing a sweep on Tuesday morning).
I know I'm late for the party, but this is hysterical.

You remind me of Al Gore: take a poll to measure public sentiment before making a decision.

OF COURSE you should turn him in. It has nothing to with being a goodie two shoes about drug laws, it's about CYA!

Use a hidden camera in your dorm room and tape it. You don't want to become one of the suspect when you report it. Someone captured on video/photographic evidence usually loses.

Anyways, why should you be lenient? He knows what he's doing and he knows it's big time illlegal. It's one thing to use drug, but it's another to distribute in a large quantity where it could put someone else in jeopardy of getting in trouble with the law. Somehow cause him to do it again. Try to find out when the transaction is going to take place, then call 911.

Maybe I should have qualified the fact that I severely dislike anyone who blatantly breaks the law to a degree larger than a few miles over the speed limit or something trivial.

nik

And these "trivial" things like a "few miles" over the speed limit can decicde between life & death, when someone smokes pot, it only "hurts" himself.

So crack smoking, heroine, etc. should all be legalized, right? Cuz they're only hurting the person who's doing them, right?

idiots.

nik

I only said POT smoking. I did say they only hurt themselves, but I never took in consideration to legalize crack or heroine, etc.

After reading over this thread, I do find it amusing all the people talking about 2 ounces like it's big time dealing

I'm with red though, the guy is a major dumbass if he's doing any sort of selling with a campus security worker as a roomate

You bring up a good point, JuMpR629. YOU aren't the one doing anything wrong, so why should YOU have to accomodate Mr. Dealer's dumb ass? The answer is simple, you shouldn't! Unfortunately, you may have to :(.

Thank you for your well-delivered compliment. I rarely post on off-topic because I don't like getting into the drama of other's lives, but I just decided to post something this time. I'm glad you found it useful--the point of this thread is to give you ideas and I think we've done just that.

BujinZero - Truthfully, the subject of my message should be changed into, "I'm going to turn in my roommate - opinions?" I knew that reporting the activities was something that I, as a student employee of my school's police department, was something I simply had to do. I was very interested in the type of response that I'd get, which is why I posted here.

From the beginning though, I only wanted to cover my ass - and I knew from the beginning that the only way to do so was to tell the police.

it's just weed!
Big DEAL!!!

edit: And to add, I'de never be friends with any of you, because you're all a bunch of tattle tail momma's boys.
Rats. You wouldn't have gotten in trouble, at all.

Okay .. I read the thread.
This is what you should have done.
Tell him that he has to share the weed with you, if he's gonna be putting you at risk, then he should share.
Either that, or go into business with him straight up.
Ratting on people is teh suck major.

Rats. You wouldn't have gotten in trouble, at all.

Right - because you know that I value my education at one of this country's best public universities. And you know that my parents fully applaud me for doing the right thing. And you know how much I love my job at the school's Dept. of Public Safety. You really know it all, smp. So I guess you're right - I didn't get in trouble last night. But I DID do the right thing.

I don't get it .. was that sarcasm?
Cause it sounds like you really did make your parents happy .. and that you do value your education .. and that you like your job.
Wuss!
:p

haha .. no man, I don't really care.
I agree with Red Dawn .. your roomy is an idiot in the first place, for living with a cop.
I just had to express severe loathing of rats on pot and stuff .. and poeple who think it's a big deal.
There are worse things. Speeding probably killed more people than pot .. actually, I know it did.

I don't give a fsck whether my roommate deals weed in the room. If I'm not doing the illegal activity then it's none of my business. But when it happens in my [contractually] substance free dorm room, then it becomes my business. I'm not out to get him in trouble. I just want to keep myself out of trouble, and for the seemingly hundredth time, the only way to do that was to go to the cops.

So, anyone have an ETA on when JuMpR's roommate gets his balls busted by the weekly canine search?

If the weed's gone, there's no evidence and they can't do anything legally ATM. However, when the dogs turn up a positive in the room, they will check back unannounced and unscheduled. Notice I'm saying when. Not if. If you think you can put two ounces of pot past police dogs, you're either the Great God of Herb him/herself or really stupid.

JuMpR629 - You talked to the cops about a roomate instead of talking to your roomate about it. You are an asshole.

Have you been reading the discussion? The housing athority at his college strongly discourages searches and the only way his room could be searched would be by police obtaining a search warrant. A dog sniff is not enough to procure a search warrant.
