Should I try a gyro today?

yes, but it is not made in the same manner (ie gyro meatloaf).

Those pictures are of the same thing in different states. The second one is the before, the 1st is the after.

I am going to this little place close by that I have had a few people going on about, one told me the gyro was the best thing ever. I have never tried lamb meat, that claim it is amazing. I am leaning towards the hamburger, nothing beats a good burger for me but I my try the gyro.

what the hell is wrong with you?

seriously OP...this makes me sad.

Do it. ...but a gyro isn't the best way to try lamb meat. it's still great, but it won't seem special to you.

the top looks like pastor more than a lamb gyro stick--at least the way that pastor is typically stacked. the bottom...dunno. definitely more processed, but once you start shaving and mashing that down, the upper meat stick will start to look like the lower one (Well, will be browned)

pastor/shawarma/non-US gyros are all plays on the same thing, sliced meat on a vertical rotisserie.

a good gyro with the right tzadziki sauce can be a religious experience. Do NOT put fucking lettuce on it. I got one in the Boston area and other than putting lettuce on it, it was really good.
Make sure they cut the meat from a spit and not some frozen, pre-shaped crap.

Gyros are awesome. It's a wonder nobody's started a Greek fast food chain. Might not be great, but as said above, even a bad gyro is pretty good.

A couple weeks ago, I got lamb on a pita from a halal food truck at the flea market. It was so good, I'd drive the 20 miles just for the food. In fact, that's my plan this weekend. That's the one good thing about city life; interesting food choices. We've been getting /some/ good stuff out here, but not like the city.

I like my gyros well done with raw onions, no lettuce, lots of hot sauce and a little Tzatziki sauce. Pita slightly grilled. I eat this at least 4 time a week.

I heart gyros, the best I ever ate were in Athens, a lot hole in the wall place that had locals lined up for two blocks! Delicious & cheap!

I'm not a fan of the doughy greek pita's they use in gyros, i prefer the thinner ones used in shawarmas/doner kebabs

And if you got it in Boston it was called a balancing device vs a Jeer-oh.

I do love myself a gyro though. Place near me has a plate that will feed 3 for $10.
